Chloe was wrong. 

Spotty was only so easy to bribe because of its hopeless owner. It could only sigh at how much trouble its heart had to endure. 

At the end of the alley, more than thirty powered humans were running on pure instinct, their minds completely blank. 

After reaching the end of the alley and taking down two third–level zombies, Felix and the others found their powers nearly depleted. 

When they stared at the towering wall ahead, a wave of despair washed over them. 

Elise and the others froze in terror. The last few, still unaware they had nowhere left to run, shouted in panic. “Why did we stop? Keep running! Are you trying to get us killed? We don’t want to die!” 

Along the way, they’d run into all sorts of tough zombies. Of the 600 powered human barely thirty remained.

Wails, terrified shrieks, and bitter curses echoed all around. 

Facing death, nobody gave a damn about Elise’s status anymore. The sharp ones were already scrambling over others, desperate to claw their way out. 

But the place was a total mess, and the zombies were closing in fast. Nobody wanted to be the one left behind. 

Anyone who tried to climb over others got knocked down, only to be bitten and ripped apart by the zombies

These powered humans were at least second–level, absolute beasts in battle most of the time. But without any cores to recharge, once their powers ran dry, they were just sitting ducks for the zombies. 

Felix roared, “Get ready to fight!” 

He grabbed a steel pipe from his gear and rammed it at the zombie that was lunging 

for him. 

The zombie opened its mouth to bite, but Felix shoved the pipe straight into its jaws. With a powerful crunch, the zombie’s teeth flattened the end of the pipe. 

All Elise did was scream the whole way, and now she was back to barking out orders. “Felix, hurry up and kill these filthy monsters! Kill every last one of them!” 

Felix gritted his teeth, thinking, ‘I swear, I could strangle her right now! 

“Shut up!” he snapped. 

If she hadn’t been bossing everyone around, shrieking and ranting nonstop, there was no way they would have attracted this zombie horde. 

The whole squad wouldn’t have gotten wiped out just trying to save her. 

Elise couldn’t believe she’d just been yelled at. She glared murderously at Felix’s back, gritting her teeth. 

‘Just wait till we get back to the base. I’ll have this useless loser thrown out and beaten to a pulp!‘ she fumed. 

With Elise’shrieking nonstop, zombies just kept pouring in, forcing the powered humans to fight back on nothing but raw instinct. 

By the time Chloe and the rest of the squad showed up, Elise’s crew was already running on fumes. 

Peyton sent his powered humans forward, and they wiped out the last of the zombies without breaking a 

sweat. 

They dug the cores out of the zombies‘ brains, bagged them up, and handed eve 

“Thanks, Mr. Klein,” Felix said, giving Peyton a respectful bow.

Elise stomped her foot angrily. 

“Felix, why are you thanking them? If it weren’t for them, how could so many of us have died?” Elise screeched from behind Felix. 

Elise glared at Chloe with pure hatred, as if she wanted to eat her alive. 

When she saw Peyton hand Chloe two late–stage third–level zombie cores, her eyes were blazing with fury.

Everyone’s eyes snapped to Elise.

But Elise just let out another shriek, then gave Felix a hard shove, sending

“You worthless loser! You can’t even protect me, and now you can’t keep our cores safe either? Why don’t you just drop dead already!” she screeched. 

Chloe watched the whole scene unfold and couldn’t help but clap her hands in mock applause. 

“Well, looks like you guys are turning on each other now,” she teased. 

Elise jabbed a red–nailed finger at her. “It’s all your fault! I hate you so much! Why don’t you just drop dead already?” 

Chloe crossed her arms, raised an eyebrow, and said coolly, “There are plenty of people who hate me, but guess what? They’re the ones who end up dead. 

“Just because you hate me, I should go die? Well, there are way more people who hate you. Why don’t you go die instead?” 

Emily came over, sizing up Elise from head to toe, her eyes full of scorn and disdain. 

“You got all those people killed. Shouldn’t you be rotting in hell, begging for forgiveness?” she sneered. 

Elise shot her a look of utter contempt. “They are all just lesser beings. Dying for me is the only thing they are good for. And you? Hand over those cores. They’re mine.” 

Her stuck–up, bossy attitude left even the soldiers staring in disbelief. 

Charles and the others helped Felix up from the ground. Even though he was fuming at Elise, he still tried to reason with her in a low voice. 

“Miss Howell, they did save us, so maybe we should-” he said. 

But Elise cut him off before he could finish. “Save us? If they hadn’t sent us this way, would we have run into so many zombies? Would so many of our people be dead?” 

Not just Felix, but even the few remaining powered humans couldn’t help but roll their eyes at her. 

‘Elise, for real? Do you even get what’s happening right now? Your whole squad’s gone. Are you really that clueless?‘ they thought. 

Right now, their best bet was to tag along with the soldiers. Otherwise, they’d be lucky to make it out alive, let alone help out at the Medical Tower. 

Elise understood this, but she’d been pampered by the base chief her whole life. Space–powered humans were rare at the base, and she was the only one.
