By now, most of the mutant serpent’s powers had been drained by Noah and the mutant cheetah. What it could actually unleash was only about forty percent of its peak strength. 

Otherwise, Chloe’s ice wouldn’t have been able to trap it so easily. 

But a sly grin spread across Chloe’s face. 

She had an entire iceberg stashed away in her spiritual space, courtesy of the Zombie King. 

With that iceberg and the mutant serpent unable 

to recharge its powers, she was basically unbeatable. 

The real kicker? Using the iceberg from her spiritual space didn’t cost her any energy. While she stayed fresh, the mutant serpent would just keep burning out until it dropped dead from exhaustion. 

“Phantom Zombie, take Spotty and Noah and move back,” Chloe called out. 

Phantom Zombie nodded, but just as she was about to move, the mutant serpent locked onto her. Instinctively, she froze, too scared to budge. 

The mutant serpent lunged again, and just like before, it crashed headfirst into another ice wall. 

Furious, it slammed into the wall over and over. In less than five seconds, the ice shattered, but the impact left its head buzzing. 

But as soon as it managed to break through, Chloe gave a casual wave, and the ice reformed right in front of it. The mutant serpent had no choice but to start smashing its way through all over again. 

After smashing into the ice wall several times, the mutant serpent’s head finally split open, scales peeling and blood oozing out. 

“Hiss.” Realizing it couldn’t catch up, the mutant serpent turned all its fury on Chloe. 

‘My treasure! That damned ant stole my treasure!‘ it wondered. 

“Why are you staring at me like that? Still itching to bash your head against the ice?” Chloe taunted. 

“The Zombie King stashed an iceberg in my spiritual space, more than enough for you to smash into all day long,” she added. 

Her voice rang out, clear and sweet like a silver bell, but to the mutant serpent, it was pure torture, like nails on a chalkboard, pushing it to the brink of madness. 

Chloe stood atop the towering ice wall, her red dress fluttering in the wind, a confident, defiant smile lighting. up her face. 

“Hiss.” On the mutant serpent’s house–sized head, two fist–sized black horns jutted out, wisps of dark mist curling around them.

A thick, inky black mist billowed up from the spot where she’d just been, spreading like spilled ink, as if it contained countless demons within. 

When the black mist hit the ice, even the clear surface turned inky black. 

Chloe stood before the glowing barrier of her spiritual space, pressing a hand to her chest and gasping for air. 

“Damn, how did I forget it had that trick? Poison Mist Pierce!” Chloe muttered under her breath. 

That was the mutant serpent’s signature move from her previous life. Poison Mist Pierce could ignore any obstacle and appear right in front of its target, no matter what was in the way. 

If she so much as breathed in a trace of that mist, her throat would seize up instantly. In three seconds, her whole body would blacken, her flesh would rot away, and she’d be done for. 

Chloe thought to herself, ‘This kind of attack must really burn through the mutant serpent’s energy. Even at its peak in my previous life, it rarely pulled this move. 

She glanced up through the barrier of her spiritual space and saw the mutant serpent coughing up blood, struggling to even move forward. 

‘Looks like it’s just about tapped out,‘ Chloe thought. 

When Chloe popped back into view, the temperature in a 300–foot radius crashed, and thick snowflakes started dumping from the sky like a blizzard. 

The mutant serpent was moving in slow motion now, its speed dropping to a crawl. 

When it hit negative 750 °F, the mutant serpent just froze solid, its whole body locked up, unable to budge an inch. 

It forced its eyes open, struggling to stay awake, fighting off the urge to pass out. 

Negative 750 °F was as low as Chloe could go with her powers right now. 

At the same time, the iceberg from her spiritual space materialized overhead, dropping like a meteor and smashing down onto the mutant serpent. 

The ground shook like crazy, and the impact left a giant pit beneath the iceberg. 

With a flick of her wrist, Chloe sent the iceberg back into her spiritual space, watching as the mutant serpent, barely hanging on, kept struggling against the freezing hell. 

She wiped the cold sweat from her forehead. ‘Damn, that iceberg is seriously useful, just a little heavy to handle,‘ she thought. 

With a flick of her wrist, Chloe conjured up an ice saw, its jagged blade gleaming coldly. She slammed it down.

Ignoring the agony in its weak spot, the mutant serpent charged at Chloe in a frenzy, burning up the last of its power for one final, desperate attack. 

Black mist exploded from its fangs, blasting through every barrier like lightning; nothing could stop it as it shot straight for Chloe. 

But Chloe was ready for this. She vanished in an instant, slipping right into her spiritual space before the attack could touch her. 

Chloe didn’t show herself until the black mist was gone for good. 

By then, the mutant serpent was stone–cold dead. 

Still on guard for any last tricks, Chloe carefully worked the ice saw, splitting the mutant serpent in two right at its weak spot. 

Only then did she finally relax and toss the corpse into her spiritual space. 

Once everything was done, Chloe flopped down in the snow, her heart racing. She gulped in air, cold sweat trickling down her forehead as the fear finally hit her. 

She eyed the patch of ice nearby, now stained pitch black by the mutant serpent’s poison mist, and instinctively shuffled back a few steps. 

“Whew, that was way too close. I almost kicked the bucket right here today,” Chloe muttered, her voice still trembling. 

The mutant serpent was way tougher than she’d ever imagined. 

If her powers hadn’t been a perfect counter to it, and if she hadn’t had that iceberg tucked away in her spiritual space, she might not have made it out alive. It would’ve been a life–or–death struggle for sure. 

“Ding! Congratulations, Host! You’ve obtained a 200–cubic energy stone that can level up your spiritual space to the third level. Do you want to use it?” 

“Nope,” Chloe replied without a second thought. 

‘No way I’m burning through that energy stone so soon, Chloe thought, still catching her breath. ‘It took everything I had to bring down that beast, and I haven’t even figured out what I’m gonna do with this thing yet. Better hold onto it for now. 

“Congrats, Host! You’ve taken down a late–stage fifth–level mutant serpent. Now you can extend the time in your spiritual space to three hours a day. Want to cash in this reward?”

She absorbed the last two Frostbeast mutant cores and finally felt some energy coming back into her body. 

At that moment, Chloe realized her powers were already at the absolute peak of fourth–level, just a hair’s breadth away from breaking through to fifth–level. 

‘Fifth–level powered human? That’s the absolute pinnacle in this world. Once I hit that, no one could touch me, Chloe thought, excitement bubbling up inside her. 

But she didn’t rush to level up. After all, she’d been leveling up at breakneck speed already, and it was better to play it safe for now. 

After all, even the tallest skyscrapers need a rock–solid foundation. 

That showdown with the mutant serpent really opened Chloe’s eyes to her own shortcomings. 

She figured she’d stick around at fourth–level for a while and grind it out, sharpening her skills before shooting for the next breakthrough. 

Chloe staggered over to the wrecked hospital building, still feeling a bit shaky. With a wave of her hand, she swept up all the rubble and stashed it away in her spiritual space.

now. 

First, the Zombie King showed up, then that late–stage fifth–level mutant serpent, and now, there wasn’t a single creature left in sight. Not even a zombie anywhere to be found. 

For miles and miles, it was nothing but endless snow and a handful of lonely skyscrapers sticking out of the white. 

Chloe was about to leave when she caught a streak of blood–red in the snow at the corner of a distant skyscraper. 

“Mutant flowers!” she exclaimed. It was a whole bunch of them. 

Looked like there were at least twenty mutant flowers over there. 

‘Damn, I just hit the jackpot!‘ Chloe thought.
