The others started yelling and cursing at the three women, showing whose side they were on.Â
The other two women immediately switched sides, glaring at Chloe in annoyance.Â
“Miss, what are you even saying? If you want to leave, go ahead, but we’re not going anywhere,” one of them said.Â
Nobody was a fool in the apocalypse. With everyone’s anger aimed at them, even their own teammates started calling them out.Â
That made them snap to their senses. If they kept opposing Chloe, they might not even get a bite of bread.Â
The woman’s jaw dropped as she stared at the other two, completely shocked.Â
“Seriously? How could you just turn on me like that?” she blurted out.Â
“What’s the big deal? We just don’t want to go with you, that’s all,” one of them shot back.Â
The two women immediately bowed in front of Chloe. “Madam, please don’t make us leave! We promise we’ll work our butts off!”Â
The other woman’s eyes flickered with anxiety as she nodded frantically.Â
“Yeah, yeah, we were just starving this morning and had no energy. Now that we’ve eaten, we’ll definitely work hard this afternoon,” she blurted out.Â
Chloe didn’t have time to waste arguing with them. She needed to get out there and start hunting zombies forÂ
cores.Â
“Alright, you, get lost. The rest of you, finish your meal and get back to work,” Chloe ordered.Â
She pointed straight at the woman, who had done the least work all morning and kept trying to drag others into slacking off with her.Â
Chloe was making an example out of her, letting everyone know that food didn’t come for free.Â
The woman started to panic.Â
“No, I can’t leave! I don’t want to go! Madam, I was wrong, please don’t make me leave, I’m begging you!” she cried out.Â
Right then, she realized she’d been thrown under the bus by everyone else.Â
“Get out! If you don’t move now, just look over there, and those zombies will rip you to shreds,” Chloe said coldly.Â
Everyone turned to look where she was pointing, and their hearts nearly stopped; they were completely surrounded by zombies.Â

Some were shaking so hard that they could barely stand, and the most terrified even wet themselves. The women just sobbed quietly, too scared to make a sound.Â
Only Clayton noticed that the horde of zombies was packed together, snarling and baring their teeth at them, but not a single one dared to move an inch closer.Â
‘Is that angelic–looking girl really even scarier than the zombies?‘ Clayton thought, his mind spinning.Â
With that thought, any trace of desire in his eyes disappeared, leaving only horror and fear.Â
Without another word, he grabbed a shovel and started working like a man possessed, his wild determination sparking everyone else to jump in.Â
Everyone started swinging their arms, working like their lives depended on it.Â
Even an idiot could tell that the zombies were staring them down, desperate to rip them apart, but not one dared to step forward. That just proved how scary strong that girl was.Â
The woman was frozen with fear, so scared that she couldn’t even move. She’d wet herself, and in this icy weather, it turned to ice almost instantly, adding humiliation to her misery.Â
She didn’t dare look Chloe in the eye. Grabbing a shovel, she threw herself into the work, going all out. For someone so scrawny, she was actually keeping up with the guys.Â
She could feel Chloe’s stare crawling all over her, making her hair stand on end. No way was she slacking off now; she worked even harder.Â
Soon, that feeling of being watched by a venomous snake finally faded, and the woman secretly let out a sigh of relief.Â
Now, even when someone tried to talk to her, she just buried her head in her work, too scared to even glanceÂ
- up.Â
‘Chloe didn’t kill me, does that mean I get to stick around?‘ the woman thought, her heart pounding.Â
Chloe opened up the RV door and let Phantom Zombie out.Â
She pointed at the zombies nearby. “Go kill them, bring back their cores, and I’ll give you some mutant serpent meat.”Â
Phantom Zombie’s usually blank face showed a rare look. Remembering how the mutant cheetah devoured that meat last night, she couldn’t help but lick her lips.Â
With a flash, Phantom Zombie disappeared. In less than a minute, the zombies at the front fell like dominoes, heads rolled everywhere, at least a hundred of them.Â
Phantom Zombie caused such a ruckus that the people digging couldn’t help sneaking a look, and almost dropped dead on the spot from sheer terror.Â
Their hands shook so badly they nearly lost their grip on their tools.Â

Chloe curled her fingers, and in an instant, razor sharp wind blades appeared in the air, spinning toward the heads of the fallen zombies.Â
They sliced right through the zombies‘ skulls, and crystal–clear cores popped out, only to be snatched up by the swirling snow and blown right back to Chloe.Â
Too bad most of these cores were just first–level, and they weren’t much use to her.Â
Looks like if I want to level up, I’ll have to go after a real powerhouse like the Zombie King. Chloe thought.Â
After that, Chloe didn’t bother getting involved anymore. She just stayed where she was and began practicing her newly acquired Polar Freeze spell.Â
The refugees digging in the dirt all froze at the same moment, tools forgotten, every face wearing the same stunned expression as they stared off into the distance.Â
Their mouths were hanging wide open.Â
Not far away, Phantom Zombie was cutting through the zombie horde like she owned the place; wherever she passed, heads went flying.Â
‘Oh my God, someone thought, mind spinning.Â
This was the first time they’d ever seen humans slaughtering zombies, instead of the other way around.Â
“Who is the girl? She’s so amazing‘ they all wondered, hearts pounding in awe.Â
“What are you all standing around for? Get back to work!” Clayton barked, snapping everyone out of it. They rushed to grab their tools and get moving.Â
Now they could finally relax a little, not freaking out about getting mobbed by zombies.Â
At least that angelic girl wasn’t out to kill them, and she even handed out good food.Â
Just the thought of chicken drumsticks and fresh bread had everyone hustling.Â
What was supposed to take three days got done in just two, and Chloe had already scavenged every last bit of supplies from the area.Â
A few times, they ran into third–level zombies, but Chloe just unleashed her brand–new Polar Freeze spell and turned them into ice statues.Â
But even the cores inside the zombies‘ heads shattered the moment she touched them. She was honestly stunned by just how brutal this move could be.Â
After Chloe finished collecting all the gas from the station, the refugees looked a little down.Â
“Madam, are you leaving?” someone blurted out, sounding worried.Â
‘Guess that means no more tasty bread or chicken drumsticks for us, they realized, feeling bummed.Â

‘Man, this is depressing,‘ they thought, totally deflated.Â

Chloe nodded, thinking to herself, ‘Now that I’m about to have my own base, I should probably recruit some people. At the very least, I’ll need some labor.‘Â
“I’m from Bluehaven Base. If you’re interested, would you like to come with me?” Chloe asked.Â
Everyone’s eyes welled up with tears of excitement, and they all dropped to their knees, banging their heads on the ground in gratitude.Â
“Base? You’re from Bluehaven Base? Count us in! We’ll follow you anywhere!” they shouted, voices trembling with joy.Â
“Alright, but you’ll have to trail behind us on your own, no joining the main group. And just like before, you’ll earn your meals by working,” Chloe said.Â
“So, what do you want us to do?” Clayton asked, unable to hide his anxiety.Â
“You see her over there?” Chloe said, pointing at Phantom Zombie.Â
Everyone nodded.Â
“She’ll take care of killing the zombies. Your job is to dig out the zombie cores from the bodies and hand them over to me,” Chloe said.Â
“But if I catch anyone trying to pocket a zombie core,” Chloe warned, her words cutting off abruptly.Â
Her sharp eyes swept over the crowd, a wicked grin curling at her lips.Â
“I’ll throw you right into the middle of the zombie horde. Do I make myself clear?” she finished, voice cold as ice.Â
“Got it,” everyone chimed in.Â
All the refugees nodded seriously, making it clear they knew their place and weren’t about to step out of line.Â
