Chloe bent down, picked up the packet of cookies from the ground, and handed it to the soldier. 

“This is a reward for you. You should thank this gentleman and lady. They’d rather go hungry than eat this crappy food,” Chloe said. 

A flicker of surprise crossed the soldier’s eyes. Being a soldier wasn’t easy, especially with a family to feed. 

He grabbed the cookies with both hands, not wasting a second. 

After days out scavenging, they were dead tired and hungry, never getting a proper meal. Even a small pack of cookies was something to keep the hunger at bay. 

The couple, who’d been acting all high and mighty just moments ago, were left totally stunned. 

They’d mixed in with the refugees and trekked all the way to Bluehaven Base, eating everything they had along the way. Now they were so hungry that they’d eat tree bark if they had to. 

Honestly, getting some cookies and soup was already pretty good. 

They’d imagined Bluehaven Base as a paradise with endless food, but got barely any rations instead. The disappointment was a bitter pill to swallow. 

Plus, they thought their background meant they deserved better food, so they kept whining and complaining, trying to use their so–called status to get more. 

But now, they didn’t even get the cookies. 

The woman was so embarrassed and pissed off that her face turned bright red. Before the apocalypse, she actually had some status. People used to bend over backwards to please her. 

She reached out and tugged at her husband’s sleeve, frantically giving him the look, but he was completely lost in Chloe. 

She was so pissed that she kicked him right in the knee. 

“Ouch.” The man was caught off guard and crashed to the ground, his knee screaming in pain. He glared at his wife, pissed. off. 

“What the hell are you doing?” he barked. 

Right after he said it, he realized he’d just been totally zoned out, staring at Chloe like he was hypnotized. 

The woman shot him a deadly glare and then pointed furiously at Chloe, her face flushed with rage. 

Just like she’d done with the soldier earlier, her finger was almost poking Chloe right in the nose. 

“Why do you think you can just give our stuff away to someone else?” she demanded, her voice sharp with anger. 

Chloe kept her gentle smile, but her eyes locked onto the finger hovering near her nose. 

She gave a cold, mocking smile. “I can’t stand people pointing fingers at me.” 

Before Chloe even finished speaking, a blade of wind sliced through the woman’s finger, sending it flying. 

It happened so fast that no one saw Chloe do anything. To everyone else, it looked like the woman’s finger just snapped off and shot away on its own. 

Chapter 184 

That was freaky. 

The refugees sucked in a sharp breath, and now all their wary eyes were on Chloe. 

After surviving so long in the apocalypse, everyone here was street–smart. 

Chloe was stunning, but even with that smile, her eyes radiated a commanding presence that made it clear she was not someone to mess with. 

That was when it hit them that she was the deputy leader of the base. 

The smart ones started backing away, making sure they didn’t catch Chloe’s attention. 

Looks alone weren’t enough to land her the deputy leader spot at a base like this. 

But there were still some people who were totally clueless about what was really going on. 

The woman’s finger was sliced clean off, seemingly out of thin air. Blood poured out, and the pain was so intense that tears streamed down her cheeks. 

“Ah! It hurts. It hurts so much,” the woman cried, her voice cracking as she clutched her bleeding hand. 

Chloe didn’t spare the woman a second glance as she writhed on the ground. Instead, she addressed the soldiers behind her who were serving soup. 

“Since this couple looks down on our soup, you guys can split their share from now on. Remember their faces. If they stir up trouble again, don’t hold back. Teach them a lesson,” Chloe said coolly.

They were soldiers, not robots. They had feelings, and seeing these ungrateful leeches just made them furious, but there was nothing they could do about it. 

Orders were orders. They couldn’t lay a finger on civilians, no matter how much they wanted to. 

Honestly, they’d been fed up with these moochers for ages. 

All the supplies they’d risked their lives and lost so many comrades to get were being devoured by these greedy refugees, who acted like it was their birthright and never stopped complaining about not getting enough. 

It seriously made them lose faith in people. 

As soon as the couple heard that, they snapped. The man stuck out his neck, pointing angrily at Chloe. 

“You fucking whore. Who the hell gave you the right to cut off our food? Do you even know who you’re messing with?” he yelled, his voice trembling with rage. 

The refugees watching nearby had their eyes glued to the scene, clearly hoping for a fight to break out. 

They were just waiting for things to get messy so they could sneak in and grab whatever they could. 

The soldiers froze in shock. 

While outsiders might not know, the soldiers knew exactly what Chloe was capable of. Even Graham was wary of her, more like terrified, honestly.

Chloe wasn’t about to let him off the hook. She crossed her arms and said, “Oh? Weren’t you just cursing me out a second ago?” 

The man quickly slapped himself on the face. “My fault, really. I just blurt things out sometimes. I didn’t mean it at all…” 

After trying to smooth things over, he finally got to his main point. “Uh, my wife’s uncle is the mayor of Bluehaven. His name is…” 

As soon as the man brought up her uncle, the woman scrambled up from the ground, her back suddenly straight like she’d just regained her pride. 

“Yeah. Call my uncle out. He always treats me the best,” the woman said, puffing herself up 

Chloe frowned and glanced at the soldiers beside her.
