Just as Chloe was about to turn around, the sled dogs spotted some unfamiliar folks, bared their fangs, and let out ear–splitting barks. 

“Woof! Woof! Woof!” The commotion was massive, making the whole scene look pretty scary. 

The three sleds formed a triangle around Chloe, and the dogs bared their teeth and barked furiously at her. 

Tied to ropes, a few big guys pulled the ropes back, making the sled dogs stop in their tracks. They didn’t make a move. 

Chloe sized up the six men, looking genuinely scared, even shivering a bit. 

“Who are you guys?” she stammered. 

Her voice was as soft and pitiful as a kitten’s, her big, innocent eyes peeking at the men, as if she’d just been scared out of her mind. 

These guys weren’t pushovers. They exchanged a few silent glances, each seeing the same wariness in the others‘ eyes. 

Then, they were stunned to see that the land and the river couldn’t be more different, like night and day. 

The ground was nothing but bare earth, not a single patch of snow or ice in sight. 

Meanwhile, the river was frozen solid, with ice nearly nine feet thick. They wondered, ‘What is up with that?‘ 

“Boss, you don’t think this is where fall turns into winter, do you?” a burly, slightly chubby guy asked, scratching his head in confusion. 

The man they called boss had a sharp, almost feminine face, narrow slanted eyes, a hooked nose, and skin that looked freakishly pale. 

He shot the burly guy a nasty glare. “What line? You think the weather just splits like that? Like it’s raining or something?” 

“Then what is this all about?” the burly guy asked, still baffled. 

The boss shot Chloe a look, his eyes briefly lighting up with admiration at her beauty, but he quickly went back to his usual cool. 

These guys had seen their fair share of pretty faces. She was just a bit more gorgeous than most, but that wasn’t enough to mess with their heads. 

“Who are you?” the boss asked. 

Chloe gave a shy blink. “I’m Chloe. Did you guys come from across the river? Wow, that’s amazing… 

Everyone loves a little praise, and when it comes from a gorgeous woman, it goes straight to your head. The

The way she looked so scared made the men think that, even if she was a powered human, she probably wasn’t all that tough. 

“Are you an ice–powered human?” The boss gave Chloe a quick once–over, his eyes sharp and suspicious. 

If someone could step out in just a thin tracksuit in this kind of freezing weather, they had gotta be either an ice–powered human or a fire–powered human. 

He himself was a fire–powered human. Even at level four, he had to keep a faint layer of flames burning on his skin just to avoid freezing out here. 

But Chloe didn’t have any flames on her, so she could only be an ice–powered human. 

“Yeah, I’m an ice–powered human. I just reached level one, so I came out hoping to score some supplies,” Chloe replied, her voice soft and a bit shy. 

She glanced at the men. “Are you guys out here scavenging for stuff too?” 

Chloe could’ve wiped these guys out in an instant, but she held back. 

It was obvious these guys were shrouded in mystery, and Chloe wanted to fish for more info, see what else she could get them to spill. 

But before Chloe could get another word out, the boss hopped off his sled and strolled right up to her, clamping down on her arm. 

“What’s up with the land? Where did all the snow and ice go?” he pressed, eyes narrowed. 

Chloe’s eyes widened, her face full of confusion. “Wasn’t this your doing?” 

“What?” The boss frowned. 

Chloe’s sweet voice sounded again. “I really don’t know. There was so much snow and ice yesterday, but now it’s all gone.” 

She pretended to be terrified. “Could there be some kind of monster that eats snow and ice? Boo hoo, that’s so scary! Please, I just want to go home.” 

The boss flashed a wicked grin. “Can you take us to your base?” 

Chloe gave the twelve plump sled dogs an unapologetically hungry look, even licking her lips like she was eyeing a feast. 

“Wow, these pups are seriously fat!” she teased, her voice light and playful. 

The men’s gazes turned cold in an instant, one of them warning, “If you value your life, just try getting close. and see what happens.”

Chloe pointed at herself, looking a little dumbfounded. “Wait, I can really get close?” 

The guys just stared at her, totally speechless. 

‘Yeah, she’s a total knockout, but is she actually crazy or what?‘ they wondered. 

The boss’s face turned cold and dangerous. “Go ahead, give it a shot.” 

Then he whipped out a photo. “Ever seen this guy before?” 

Chloe was just about to finish off the twelve sled dogs when she caught sight of the photo from the corner of 

her eye. 

She froze, her mind thrown into chaos. 

The person in the photo was Noah. 

He was rocking a sharp designer suit, his face cold and distant, radiating that boss energy like he was born to rule and nobody could touch him. 

Even in a photo, you could feel that ‘I’m above it all‘ attitude, like the whole world was beneath him. 

This was a version of Noah that Chloe had never seen before–chill, insanely handsome, and just oozing that main character vibe. 

That high–and–mighty aura was the kind only seen in someone who’s been the top dog in their field for ages. 

That icy, untouchable vibe was exactly what fit Noah’s looks. 

Not like now, where he’s got that frosty, aloof vibe but spends all day giving her those big, sad puppy eyes, sometimes pulling the whole pitiful act just to get her to notice him. 

‘Was this really Noah before he lost his memory?‘ Chloe thought to herself. 

For a split second, Chloe tensed up, but then she relaxed, her eyes turning into literal stars. “Whoa, he’s insanely hot! Who is he? Can you set me up with him?” 

She was acting like a total fangirl, practically swooning. 

The boss was convinced now that Chloe might be drop–dead gorgeous, but she was definitely a few fries short of a Happy Meal. 

The boss was getting annoyed now. “You’ve never seen him before?” 

His gaze was locked on Chloe, unblinking and intense. If she hesitated, he’d catch it instantly. 

Chloe shook her head, her eyes wide and innocent. “Is he someone close to you?” 

She wasn’t about to give away Noah’s whereabouts, not with these guys looking so dangerous, clearly up to no good.

As her eyes dropped, she spotted the thick calluses at the web between the boss’s thumb and forefinger, and her heart skipped a beat. 

This guy was probably a pro with guns, most likely a killer. 

Chloe flashed her usual fake smile. ‘Noah, looks like I just saved your ass again,‘ she thought to herself. 

Chloe raised her hand, palm facing the ground, and a wind blade started to swirl in her palm, quietly brewing up a storm. 

His suspicion faded, replaced by something else as he checked Chloe out from head to toe, his gaze pausing at her gently rising chest. 

“Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. 

Then he flashed a wicked grin. “We crossed the river for this, and it’s been way too long since we got any action.” 

Hearing that, the other five guys exchanged sleazy grins. 

Since they hadn’t found their target yet, they figured they might as well take care of their own needs first. 

Chloe staggered backward, looking desperate to escape, but the boss clamped down on her arm so hard she couldn’t budge. Her voice cracked, almost sobbing, as panic took over. 

“What are you guys trying to do? Please, let me go…” she cried, her words trembling with fear. 

Her voice was so alluring that it made the boss weak in the knees. “Let me have the first go-” 

But before he could finish, a wind blade appeared out of nowhere, slashing across his neck. His head was instantly severed from his body.
