Chapter 207 

Inside Blaze Haven, the old sense of peace was gradually restored, but outside, the base was almost completely encircled by even more mutant creatures and plants.

“What happened?” Chloe asked.

Frank plopped down on the ground, looking utterly defeated. 

Frank groaned, “Don’t even get me started. The walls outside Blaze Haven are almost completely covered in mutant plants. The second anyone steps out, they all attack at once.” 

Emily wiped some green sap off her face. “Yeah, you have no idea. At least a hundred mutant creatures suddenly swarmed us. Jeez, good thing I’m quick on my feet!” 

Even now, just thinking about it gave her the chills. 

“Chloe, this can’t go on,” Frank said. “We’re getting stronger fast, but the number of mutant creatures out there is just insane.” 

Chloe pressed her lips together. “This is only the beginning. In the future, not only will there be more mutant creatures, but they’ll also get even stronger.” 

Mindy’s cheeks turned a little red. “So, are we stuck inside the base for good now?” 

Chloe smiled and shook her head. “Spread the word. The hunting team stays put for the next three days. Take some time to rest and recover. 

“Three days from now, we’re going to hit the Botanic Gardens for something big.” 

Frank, Emily, Mindy, and the rest of the powered folks exchanged looks filled with both fear and excitement. 

Emily especially–her psychic power could reach all the way to the edge of the Botanic Gardens, and she could tell that every single plant inside had mutated.

Every time Chloe told them to absorb their cores fast, it meant things were about to get intense. 

“Good. Three days from now, we’re going to claim some turf,” Chloe said, her tone full of confidence. 

With that, she strode off, leaving everyone staring at each other in shock. They all realized what was coming, and one by one, they covered their mouths, too stunned to speak. 

“Chloe really is the boss. She’s got real backbone,” someone muttered. 

Just then, someone sighed wistfully. “Man, if only Noah were still around.” 

If he were, Blaze Haven would be way stronger. 

Chloe had already gotten the scoop from the system on why all the plants in the Botanic Gardens had turned mutant.

couple of weeks, saplings as thick as your arm, little leafy trees, climbing ivies, and mysterious creepers with bright red flowers had sprouted up like crazy. 

It was so overgrown out there, you’d never guess a town had ever existed. It looked like the whole place had been wiped off the map and hidden away in the heart of some untamed jungle. 

Even Chloe, with all her mental fortitude, couldn’t help but be stunned for a moment. 

Chloe stared at the transformed world outside, her throat tightening as she swallowed hard. 

Inside Blaze Haven, it still looked like winter, but step outside and it was a whole new world like the seasons had flipped in 

an instant. 

Which could only mean one thing. Every single one of those thick, wild plants out there was a mutant. There wasn’t a normal plant in sight. 

Sure enough, the moment they stepped out of Blaze Haven, a ivy came lashing toward them. 

The ivy was covered in strange little red flowers, with a subtle, sweet scent wafting in the air. 

“Quick, cover your mouths. Don’t breathe!” Frank shouted. 

Frank was a regular out on hunts, so he could tell right away. He’d tangled with this ivy before. 

Chloe caught on immediately. She quickly covered her nose with one hand, then pulled out gas masks from her spiritual space with the other, passing them around to everyone. 

By the time Chloe finished handing out the masks, the ivy was already whipping right at them. Its tips were sharp and green, and if one looked closely, people’d see it was covered in nasty little barbs. 

Everyone was used to working together. They moved like a well–oiled team. As soon as the mutant ivy struck, the whole group stepped back in perfect sync, and Mindy flashed forward. 

She pressed her hands together, then slowly pulled them apart, conjuring a blazing net of fire from the center and casting it to trap the mutant vine. 

Wood fueled the flames. 

As soon as Mandy’s fiery net wrapped around the Spicy Vine, it was instantly reduced to ashes. 

Meanwhile, the blaze surged even stronger, racing down the vine’s trunk. 

“Nice!” Chloe called out, giving Mindy a thumbs–up. 

‘Never underestimate someone after just a few days apart,‘ Chloe thought, genuinely impressed. 

Mindy’s power level hadn’t increased, but her combat skills had leveled up big time. 

She thought, That’s what constant fighting does for her. 

‘When the top dogs go head–to–head, one tiny mistake and the whole battle can flip on its head. Sometimes, all it takes is a split–second decision to turn the tables. 

Barely had they caught their breath when they ran smack into a horde of mutant ants. Tens of thousands of fist–sized red ants closed in from all sides, trapping the group in a living sea of crimson.
