The mutant ants had caught their scent, brandishing their huge pincers as they crawled menacingly toward them. 

They swarmed in a dense mass, each ant at least a Level 1 threat What really caught Chloe’s eye was the sinister black light glinting on their raised pincers. 

“Everyone, back up! These ants are venomous!” Chloe shouted. 

The venom from these ants wasn’t deadly, but getting bitten by one was still a miserable experience. 

With so many ants crawling everywhere, if each one took a bite, there’s no way they’d survive. 

At Chloe’s warning, everyone quickly backed away. 

No one dared to let their guard down. Chloe immediately pulled out a flamethrower from her spiritual space, filled to the brim with gasoline. 

She’d used this flamethrower back when the apocalypse first hit, to deal with mutant spiders. Now, it was getting its second outing. 

Clayton struck his palm against the ground, raising an earthen wall that kept the swarming mutant ants at bay. 

Mindy called forth a vine, which wrapped around her and Chloe lifting them up onto the top of the wall. 

They exchanged a glance, and in that instant, both knew exactly what the other was thinking. 

Having teamed up countless times to hunt mutant creatures, they could read each other’s minds with just a look. 

Chloe aimed the flamethrower and let a stream of gasoline shoot out like a jet of water. ‘Better not waste this stuff,’ she thought, only spraying a single stream. 

As soon as Chloe stopped, Mindy flicked her middle finger and shot a burst of fire at the gasoline. 

The flames swept over the mass of ants, crackling and popping as the bugs let out soft, agonized squeals. 

Before long, the air was thick with the smell of burning. 

Looking down, they saw that all the green plants had been burned away, leaving only the remaining cores scattered across the ground. 

Mindy and Chloe were momentarily speechless at the sight before them.. 

“How’s it going? Did the fire take out all those mutant ants?” Frank called from below.

As he spoke, a cylindrical pillar of earth rose beneath him, slowly lifting him up. 

“I’m coming to help you guys. Holy crap!” Clayton blurted out. 

His voice cut off abruptly, and he nearly choked on his own spit. He stared in utter shock at the ground, which was completely covered in cores, and for a moment, he was at a loss for words. 

Down below, the others craned their necks and shouted, “What’s happening up there? Is it crawling with mutant ants or 

what?” 

Frank lost his cool and yelled at Clayton, “Clayton, drop that wall already!” 

Emily grabbed Frank’s arm, rolling her eyes. “Frank, chill out…”

Chloe was only stunned for a moment before she quickly ordered Renee to gather up all the cores and stash them in her spiritual space. 

The loot would be divided up after they returned victorious; for now, Renee was responsible for collecting everything into her spiritual space. 

Most of the time, they just split it all evenly. 

Everyone’s powers had their own perks, and when they teamed up, it was like having the perfect lineup to take on anything that popped up. 

No one could say what kind of mutant creature they’d run into today, but whatever showed up, someone always had just the right power to take it down. 

That’s how they always managed to score big with loot they never saw coming. 

Take Mindy, for example. If she ever went one–on–one with Frank, he’d wipe the floor with her. 

But when it came to mutant plants, her fire powers really came into their own. 

Insects and plants are instinctively afraid of fire. They’d rather gang up on Frank than even think about crossing Mindy. 

After taking out the mutant ants, they kept pushing ahead, but Chloe’s frown just got deeper.
