The Day Love Betrayed Me and Never the Plan 21

The Day Love Betrayed Me and Never the Plan 21

The air was thick with the smell of blood, and almost every zombie in the building was drawn upstairs by the scent. Even the ones locked in their apartments were going wild, banging on the doors nonstop,

Chloe’s door was solid enough that she didn’t worry about zombies breaking in, but she couldn’t help wondering if her neighborsdoors would hold up.

She slammed the door shut with a loud bang, blocking out most of the chaos outside. Still, she could faintly hear a woman’s desperate screams and zombies pounding on the doors.

Chloe moved quickly through her apartment, stufling everything she could find into her spiritual space. She didn’t even leave the couch behind.

No one knew what would happen when she stepped outside the next day. She might not even make it back. Everything was tucked away, just in case.

Then Chloe lay down on the only soft bed left, turning off her phone, completely unaware that the resident group chat on WhatsApp was blowing up.

Hey, remember that girl who killed those zombies downstairs a few days ago? I saw her today.”

No way, seriously?”

Where did you see her?”

She lives in Unit 1803 next door. I heard she’s a college student and that her parents passed away, so she’s all alone. Luckily, I saw she had lots of supplies. She probably won’t need to go out to look for supplies for months.”

The chat went quiet. Everyone started thinking, A girl living alone with all those supplies? Could there be a better target for looting?‘

A minute later, people started messaging Chloe like crazy. Some wanted to borrow food. Others asked if they could crash at her place, but most were trying to team up with her for supply runs.

Chloe kept getting added to new group chats, but she didn’t notice it until she woke up in the middle of the night. Then she posted the video of her neighbors stealing her supplies from outside her door into the main resident group chat.

Chloe: [Hey, everyone, it’s Chloe. I ordered some supplies online, but I had to step out for a bit, so the delivery guy left them at my door. When I got back, they were all gone. Check out the security footage.]

She quickly posted the video to the group chat. Sure enough, there was a mountain of food piled up outside her door, such as bread, chocolate, and water.

People in the chat were drooling at the sight. After days of rationing, most people were down to their last few supplies.

Just as everyone was getting excited, the video showed that the residents of Unit 1801 and Unit 1802 peeked out from behind their doors, looking sneaky.

They rushed to grab everything from outside Chloe’s door of Unit 1803, hauling it back to their apartments. At one point, they even got into a fullon fight over who would take the last box.

Once the video was sent to the group chat, outrage and curses came.

Holy crap. These assholes are so shameless. Food is like gold right now.”

Seriously, she’s just a helpless girl who can’t even go out for supplies, and these two grown men are stealing from her?”

They’re not even human!”

The chat quickly turned into a storm of personal attacks. Everyone was flaming the guys from Unit 1801 and Unit 1802.

It was just human nature, really. In the apocalypse, when everyone’s cupboards were empty, and someone had a stash of supplies, envy, jealousy, and resentment flooded in.

When they saw someone else getting a ton of food without doing anything, those feelings hit an alltime high. If they couldn’t have it, no one else could.

That sense of unfairness made people angry, and soon enough, it all spilled out in vicious comments and insults.

The woman who’d started sending the message in the resident group chat went pale with anger and immediately left the group chat. She hadn’t expected Chloe to have a security camera right outside her door.

The group was tagging her nonstop, blasting her with messages.

Why are you bullying that girl? Give her supplies back now!”

Seriously? Stealing in broad daylight? You guys are trash!”

Damn, poor girl. What bad luck to have neighbors like you two!”

Chloe replied with a voice message, her tone soft and almost fragile, like a girl who hadn’t been hardened by the world.

Thanks for standing up for me. You’re all so kind. In times like this, we really should look out for each other, she said. Then she added, If those supplies in the video were still here, I’d be happy to share them with everyone. But”

Before she finished speaking, a quiet sob slipped into the recording, and everyone could hear how heartbroken she was.

The important part was that Chloe had just said she would’ve shared the supplies with everyone.

To everyone listening, the food that had been taken from her was practically community property now. Instantly, the group chat exploded again.

Chloe smirked, a cold, mocking grin spreading across her face. You think you can take things from me easily?

Not happening the thought, tossing her phone aside and starting to change. Another fight was waiting for

The residents of Unit 1801 and Unit 1802 hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep that early morning.

First, the zombies gathering outside almost broke through their security doors. Then, neighbors of the entire building joined in. Every household sent someone to bang on their doors, demanding they return the supplies that belonged to everyone.

Margaret from Unit 1801 was swinging a kitchen knife at anyone who came near. But no matter how tough or fierce she tried to look, she was no match for the mob storming her door.

The security door, already barely hanging on after the zombie attack, was ripped off its hinges in no time. The crowd rushed in like a pack of hungry wolves, grabbing anything they could get their hands on.

Margaret collapsed to the floor, crying out, You damn thieves! Some of that stuff was ours. How could you take everything? I’m calling the cops.”

But no one was listening. Everyone knew that there was no one to call after the apocalypse now.

Inside Unit 1801, two elderly people and a fifteenyearold kid clung to each other, terrified.

As for Unit 1802, it was packed with family members, including four strong adults, each waving a kitchen knife and looking downright menacing. They dragged out every bit of the supplies they’d snatched from Chloe’s door.

The crazed neighbors didn’t dare barge in. Those kitchen knives flashing in their hands made it clear that nobody was about to risk their necks.

Meanwhile, the resident group chat was flooded with praise for Chloe. Everyone was saying she did the right thing, thanking her for sharing the supplies, talking about how they’d already gotten what she shared, and promising to watch out for each other from now on.

Chloe had packed up everything, even putting the last bed into her spiritual space. With her axe in hand, she left, traveling light. The place was stripped bare, like it had been looted.

She had finished absorbing all the firstlevel zombie cores over the last couple of days, and now she felt stronger and lighter. Even the heavy axe felt like nothing in her hand.
