Chapter 210Â
Liana was so caught up in her excitement about the ivy that she only realized Chloe was still there when she heard her speak.Â
She looked a little embarrassed.Â
“Oh? You mean that new research equipment?” Liana asked.Â
She thought for a moment, then said with regret, “I saw it at the Institute in Hevenseale before, but that place has been totally wrecked and flooded by seawater. You can’t find it anymore.”Â
Chloe felt a pang of disappointment, but she quietly made a mental note of the Institute’s location.Â
Anyway, she was going to Hevenseale sooner or later, so she figured she’d try her luck when the time came.Â

On the way back, Chloe had mixed feelings. Even though she’d scored big today and her spiritual space points had jumped up, it didn’t really make her feel any different inside.Â
‘Mutant ivy!‘ Chloe thought to herself, her heart skipping a beat.Â
Back in her previous life, she’d heard whispers about this plant. It was the undisputed number one on the mutant plant rankings.Â
By the time the rumors reached her, the mutant ivy had already become a level ten Plant King, powerful enough to crush a Zombie King of the same rank in seconds.Â
If compared to humans, plants, and mutant creatures at the same level, humans were definitely the weakest.Â
It took ten people teaming up just to barely break even with a Zombie King of equal rank.Â
Mutant plants were actually twice as powerful as mutant creatures at the same level.Â
In other words, after the apocalypse, mutant plants totally ruled the food chain.Â
What made them so terrifying wasn’t just their raw power, but how insanely fast they could reproduce.Â
A level ten mutant plant wasn’t scary on its own, but what was truly terrifying was its ability to spawn an army out of nowhere. The billions of seeds it dropped would sprout and grow in the blink of an eye.Â
It was like a swarm of ants overwhelming an elephant. No matter how strong the target was, sheer numbers would eventuallyÂ
win out.Â
Chloe couldn’t stop thinking about it, tossing and turning all night.Â
‘Could this mutant ivy really be the one that ranked first on the powered human leaderboard–the Plant King itself?” she wondered.Â
She still remembered her previous life, when the twelfth year of the apocalypse had turned the world into a frozen wasteland, with temperatures plunging to minus one hundred degrees and beyond. By that time, only the top powered humans had survived.Â
The mutant ivy was the true king among all mutant plants–eve the mutant cheetah, ranked first among all mutant creatures, couldn’t even hope to compete with it.Â
Chloe’s eyes snapped open.Â
She shot up in bed, her obsidian eyes shining with shock in the darkness.Â

“No way!” Chloe muttered, disbelief thick in her voice.Â
Her mouth fell open, as if she’d just realized something so unbelievable she could barely process it.Â
In her previous life, the number one spot on the top ten mutant creatures list had always belonged to the mutant cheetah.Â
Suddenly, Spotty’s voice echoed in Chloe’s mind. For once, she sounded oddly robotic.Â
“No way!” Spotty said, disbelief clear in his tone.Â
In her previous life, the most powerful plant was the mutant ivy–the undisputed number one on the mutant plant leaderboard.Â
And when it came to mutant creatures, the mutant cheetah reigned supreme at the very top of their rankings.Â
Back then, the fights between the mutant cheetah and the mutant ivy were way more savage than anything humans and zombies ever managed.Â
Every time they clashed, it was like lightning striking fire, like worlds colliding.Â
In a straight–up fight, the mutant ivy definitely had the upper hand. But its biggest flaw was that its roots were a tangled mess underground, making it totally immobile.Â
The mutant cheetah, though, was insanely fast and loved sneak attacks. It would dart in, wreck havoc on the mutant ivy, and then dash off before the ivy even knew what hit it.Â
For true powerhouses, even being right next to each other could feel like worlds apart.Â
When the mutant cheetah reached level three, its running speed was equivalent to a car zooming along at 180 miles per hour.Â
In her previous life, when the mutant cheetah became the Cheetah King, it had reached level ten.Â
Every time a mutant creature leveled up, its speed would double. And for those mutant creatures with innate speed powers, their speed could skyrocket ten times with every level up.Â
Just imagine how fast a level ten mutant cheetah could go.Â
Up until the day Chloe died in her previous life, the mutant cheetah and the mutant ivy were still mortal enemies. No matter what, they could never get along.Â
Thinking about it, Chloe lay back down on her bed, quietly muttering to herself, “There’s no way Spotty is that terrifying Cheetah King.” She tried to reassure herself, but the thought still lingered in her mind.Â
That Cheetah King led a horde of millions of mutant creatures and never belonged to anyone–not a single master in sight.Â
Suddenly, Noah crossed her mind, and her mood tanked. Feeling irritated, she rolled over and shut her eyes tight, determined to get some sleep.Â
Early the next morning, Chloe woke up to the system’s broadcast buzzing in her ear.Â
“New energy source detected! New energy source detected! New energy source detected!” The system’s voice sounded extra robotic today.Â
Whenever the system repeats itself three times, you know it’s found something major. This new energy source had to be a game changer.Â
“Is the new energy source coming from the Botanic Gardens?” Chloe asked, her voice laced with anticipation.Â

“Affirmative, it’s at the Botanic Gardens. Host, get over there and exchange it for spiritual space points!” the system urged, its tone almost mechanical with urgency.Â
Chloe’s eyes went wide. If the system had a physical form, she’d have socked it right in the face.Â
“Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how many mutant plants are packed into the Botanic Gardens?” she snapped, her voice extra sharp. ‘Is this system treating me like its personal workhorse or something? Chloe thought.Â
She grabbed a light gray tracksuit that was lying nearby, threw it on, and headed to the kitchen to fry up some steak.Â
The system was still chirping away, its mechanical voice sounding way more excited than usual.Â
Normally, Chloe would have to spend points to get this kind of intel, but this time the system just spilled everything for free.Â
“The strongest mutant plant in the Botanic Gardens is a level six mutant ivy,” the system announced.Â
Chloe almost choked on her spit and stumbled forward, nearly tripping over her own feet.Â
“Wait, what? Level six?” Chloe blurted out, her voice full of shockÂ
‘I always thought I was freaky enough, but apparently, there are things out there that make me look downright normal.Â
‘Whew, good thing I didn’t just rush into the Botanic Gardens,‘ Chloe thought, breathing a sigh of relief. The farther those mutant ivy ivies reached, the less punch they packed.Â
She thought, ‘If I’d gone in without thinking, the whole base could’ve been toast!‘Â
Chloe thought that was already insane, but it turns out that was just the tip of the iceberg.Â
“There are twenty level five late–stage mutant plants, fifty mid–stage, and a hundred early–stage ones…” the system droned on, relentless.Â
With every new update, Chloe felt her whole body go numb.Â
“Shit!” Chloe couldn’t hold it in anymore. This was just insane.Â
No wonder Grovenwich ended up as a paradise for mutant plants in her previous life, and nobody ever found out what went down in there.Â
‘Who would’ve thought that in just half a year since the apocalypse started, so many top–tier mutant plants have already popped up?‘ Chloe thought, her mind spinning.Â
She stared up at the ceiling, feeling a cold sweat breaking out. ‘Is this tiny base about to get eaten alive by mutant plants? Chloe thought.Â
For the first time ever, Chloe seriously regretted choosing this spot for her base.Â
“Can I swap bases?” Chloe asked.Â
The system shot her down. “The Blaze Haven flag’s already planted here. This spot is locked in–no changing it now.”Â
Chloe’s eyes went wide, hands on her hips as she yelled, “Then what if I just quit being the base owner, huh? Is that allowed?”Â
If things really got out of hand, she could always just grab her crew and hit the road. Roaming the apocalypse together didn’tÂ
sound half bad.Â
The system was so speechless, it almost glitched out.Â
It had wanted to motivate Chloe to fight harder and hunt for energy, but somehow ended up convincing her to bail instead.Â

Now, Chloe was already packing up, rounding up everyone at Blaze Haven and planning a mass exodus.Â
For the first time ever, the system was so dumbfounded it nearly short–circuited.Â
“Host, there are some real goodies in the Botanic Gardens…” the system chimed in, trying to tempt her back.Â
