Chapter 211Â
Chloe kept packing her things without stopping.Â
“So what if there’s good stuff in the Botanic Gardens? It’s not like it’s any of my business,” she muttered.Â
‘Even if I manage to get my hands on them, I might not live long enough to enjoy them,‘ she thought.Â

The system was about to blow a fuse. ‘Where’s that fearless drive of yours? What happened to your ambition to get stronger? it fumed.Â
Chloe couldn’t help but mutter inwardly.Â
‘First things first, I need to stay alive if I want any of that stuff. Sure, I can be reckless sometimes, but I’m not stupid.Â
‘I’m just a Level 5 powered human at the beginner stage, okay?Â
‘But over in the Botanic Gardens, just at the beginner stage, there are already a hundred Level 5 mutant plants, not to mention the mid and late stage ones. And the real kicker? Theres a Level 6 King Plant in there.Â
‘Seriously, how is anyone supposed to survive this?‘ Chloe grumbled to herself.Â
She loved hunting and gathering supplies, but she wasn’t about to sign up for a suicide mission.Â
The system was totally stunned.Â
It just wanted to give her a little motivation, but ended up scaring her off instead. This is so not what it wanted!Â
“Hey, Host, chill out. This is a system–protected base. It’s safe from any mutant plant below Level 10. No need to worry,” the system reassured her.Â
Chloe paused mid–pack. “Why didn’t you say so earlier?”Â
The system was speechless. ‘Did you ever give me a chance to say anything?‘ it grumbled inwardly.Â
She started frying up a steak, taking her sweet time. “Hold on, that doesn’t make sense. What if that creeping ivy hits Level 10? What happens to the base then? We’ll be totally trapped.”Â
As she said this, she was already itching to grab her stuff and bail.Â
Even the system sounded a bit speechless, like it just couldn’t with her right now.Â
“Once that creeping ivy hits Level 10, the system will level up, your spiritual space will level up, and you’ll get a power boost too,” it said.Â
Before Chloe could say anything, the system rushed on, “Every single plant in the Botanic Gardens has mutated. Even the bugs and grass aren’t something ordinary folks can even touch.Â
“They’re leveling up crazy fast, and the mutation rate is like 99.9. It’s all because there’s a super energy stone buried underground.Â
“If your spiritual space can get its hands on that super energy stone, you can cash it in for 50 million points right away.Â
“Your spiritual space will instantly hit Level 5, your base will get another upgrade, and you’ll have mountains, rivers, and lakes inside. You can grow crops and set up irrigation.Â
“And the real kicker? You can hang out there as long as you want even 24/7 if you feel like it.”Â

The list of perks nearly blew Chloe’s mind. She couldn’t help but lick her lips in anticipation.Â
‘Hell yeah, let’s do this!‘ Chloe thought.Â
The system finally breathed a sigh of relief when it saw Chloe’s eyes light up.Â
Afraid she might change her mind, it dropped another bombshell.Â

“Just put in a little more effort, and once your spiritual space hits Level 6, Blaze Haven will expand to cover the whole cityÂ
“When the zombie virus inside is cleared out, you’ll be able to farm, raise animals–whatever you want. Blaze Havens will be the safest apocalypse fortress on the planet,” it promised.Â
With all these tempting perks in the air, she really had no reason to walk away now.Â
But then she thought about those plant heavyweights lurking in the Botanic Gardens, and her head started to ache all over again.Â
If she just barged in there, she’d probably get chewed up and spat out–not even a scrap of bone left behind.Â
‘No way, I need to talk this over with everyone. Sometimes a group brainstorm beats going solo. Let’s see what the others think, Chloe thought.Â
After finishing her meal, Chloe rounded up Frank and the crew, then spilled everything she’d found out.Â
Everyone looked like they’d seen a ghost, their knees practically knocking together.Â
Still, not one of them said a word about bailing.Â
Frank jumped up, rubbing his hands together. “I say we start picking off the ones on the outskirts first. We’ll gain some experience, get a feel for what’s inside, and then slowly take them down bit by bit.”Â
But Joan wasn’t on board with that plan.Â
“Didn’t Chloe just say there’s a ton of energy stones buried under the Botanic Gardens? If we play the long game, those mutant plants will outpace us in no time,” she said, looking worried.Â
Someone couldn’t help but sigh.Â
“Ugh, if only Noah and Spotty were still around. With two more powerhouses, we wouldn’t be stuck in such a tough spot someone muttered.Â
But as soon as they said it, someone nudged their arm, and they realized they’d just let something slip.Â
They shot a sneaky glance at Chloe, but her expression stayed the same. She even nodded in agreement, so they finally relaxed.Â
‘Guess the boss really never had a thing for Noah, they thought.Â
Back at the villa, everyone was tossing out ideas, but no one could come up with a good solution.Â
In the end, all they could settle on was to focus on raising the mutant cacti and the twelve dogs at the base.Â
From now on, each squad would take two dogs out on hunts–not just to train them, but also hoping they’d grow strong enough to fight like Spotty.Â
Over the next two weeks, the temperature crept up from minus twenty–something to right around freezingÂ
Survivors from all over the world finally started coming out of hiding.Â

The sun wasn’t exactly warm, but just seeing it in the sky brought real smiles to everyone’s faces–proof that hope was back.Â
As long as the sun was shining, there was a chance for life.Â
The quick thinkers realized that with the weather warming up, food would start spoiling and resources would run low in noÂ
time.Â
So they wasted no time and headed out to scavenge for whatever they could find.Â
This time, there were no zombies hot on their heels, and everyone finally got to breathe a little easier.Â
Every time a squad went out, they came back loaded down with supplies.Â
What they didn’t realize was that while the zombies were gone, a whole new wave of mutant creatures had taken their place.Â
The first time out, they didn’t run into any. The second time, they bumped into a few. But by the third trip, they were getting attacked by swarms of these mutant creatures.Â
These things were way more of a pain than zombies ever were.Â
Once the temperature hit 10 degrees, it finally felt cozy for the powered folks.Â
With their tough bodies and awakened abilities, they were rocking thin long sleeves and pants without feeling chilly at all.Â
As the weather warmed up, survivors all over the world were celebrating–some were cheering, some were crying tears of joy, and some even let loose with firecrackers.Â
Before they knew it, just ten days had passed and the temperature had already shot up to 30 degrees.Â
The world went from a frozen wasteland to blazing heat practically overnight.Â
But honestly, the heat was the least of their worries.Â
Mutant plants were going wild everywhere, and even the tiniest bugs–ants, butterflies, earthworms–had turned into vicious little attackers.Â
And that’s not all; to make things worse, most of these mutant insects were loaded with poison.Â
For survivors heading out to scavenge, it was pure hell out thereÂ
One careless step, and they’d be overrun by a crawling sea of insects.Â
Luckily, before things got this bad, most survivor bases had already sent out Awakened Groups to clean out every scrap of supplies in the area.Â
Otherwise, it would’ve been a total nightmare.Â
These days, every base was struggling just to keep afloat. The survivors looked downright exhausted–faces gaunt, eyes hollow, and life had them hunched over, beaten down by the grind.Â
Blaze Haven still stretched about two miles across, but with so few people living here, the place felt almost deserted.Â
There were only thirty villas in total, and quite a few of them were empty.Â
Some folks had paired up and started living together as families which meant there were even more empty villas than before.Â
All the land outside the villas had been turned into farmland. The new crops Liana had been working on were sown back in winter, and now, just over a month later, they were already ripe and ready to pick.Â
