Chapter 216Â
As the old man spoke, his small eyes were full of scheming.Â

To have kept the village alive through all those disasters and mutant plant rampages in the apocalypse, even if he’s not strong himself, he’s definitely got some crafty ways of surviving.Â
Frank figured these guys would fight if they had the upper hand, but if not, they’d just try to trick you.Â
If anyone actually fell for his lies, they’d be in for a world of trouble.Â
Frank let out a hearty laugh. “Awesome! We’ve been starving for days. Come on, show us the way already!”Â
Frank said his piece and hopped back into the RV’s driver seat.Â
The old man and a few of the village men exchanged glances, each catching the same scheming look in the others‘ eyes. Some even licked their lips as they stared at the RV.Â
Frank started up the RV and followed the old man to the middle of the village’s concrete road. The commotion didn’t go unnoticed. People started paying attention right away.Â
The survivors, bored at home, all rushed out. When they saw the RV parked in the middle of the road, their eyes sparkled with excitement and hunger.Â
In an instant, they swarmed the RV, pressing in so tightly that there was no way to get through. They reached out with their filthy hands, groping and pawing at the vehicle.Â
“Walter, you really scored big today! Where’d you get such an awesome ride?”Â
“Walter, can you take me with you next time you go out scavenging? I’ve never even been in a car this fancy!”Â
They were all too busy cheering to notice the old man was already scowling.Â
He swung his cane at the nearest guy. “What are you babbling about? This car belongs to someone else! If you want a ride, get your own!”Â
With his back to the RV, the old man shot the villagers a sly look. That was when they finally noticed Frank sitting in the driver’s seat, and their eyes instantly turned wary.Â
They got the message right away, and all the excited chatter died down in an instant.Â
“Oh, so we’ve got some new folks in the village! That’s great! Everyone, let’s kill a chicken and a sheep and throw a feast for our fellow survivors!” someone called out.Â

Just then, a woman came over with a cup of coffee, her face flushed with shyness as she looked at Frank. “Hello, you must be tired from your journey. Please, have some coffee.”Â
Her hair was greasy and matted, her face and body filthy. As she got closer, a nasty stench wafted over, and a swarm of mosquitoes and flies followed her every step.Â
She stood outside the RV, trying to act seductive, clearly hoping to lure Frank out of the vehicle.Â
But honestly, her outfit was even shabbier than a street beggar’s, not a trace of beauty, just pure nausea.Â
Frank didn’t react at all, but the men behind looked like they were about to lose control. Their eyes locked on her as if they might jump her any second.Â

Too bad, though. Walter had already laid down the rules. There were only two women left in the village, so they couldn’t let loose like before. Now, each guy only got one turn a month.Â
If they went too far with the women, everyone would be in for a rough time.Â
The woman kept clutching the cup of coffee, still trying to catch Frank’s eye with her awkward flirting, but when he didn’t react at all, she started to look a little desperate.Â
She glanced at Walter, who immediately stepped up, grinning from ear to ear, his beady eyes nearly vanishing in the folds of his smile.Â
“Hey there, tough guy, I’ve already got the best room ready for you. My wife’s in the kitchen making dinner. Go ahead, have some tea and take the edge off,” Walter said.Â
The villagers couldn’t hide their greed and excitement as they stared at Frank. It was written all over their faces.Â
When Frank didn’t respond, someone even tried to shove the bowl right under his nose.Â
Frank swatted the bowl away, flashing a cold, fake smile. “Coot, if I drink this, am I gonna keel over and die right here?”Â
He was smiling, but his eyes were sharp and dangerous.Â
Walter flinched and shot the woman a look. She tried to look coy, but she was clearly pissed off.Â
“Seriously, what’s your deal? I was just being nice and bringing you some water! If you don’t want it, whatever, but do you really think I’m some kind of criminal or something?” she snapped.Â
She chugged the water in one go, then stomped off, putting on a show with her hips.Â
As soon as she got back inside, she just crumpled to the floor, totally limp.Â
Good thing she’d slipped some sleeping powder into the water. If she’d known she’d be the one drinking this precious stuff, she would’ve loaded it up.Â
That was the last thing she thought before everything went black.Â
After the woman left, Walter chuckled and said, “The women in our village are a bit spoiled. You know how it is. People say they’ve got a temper. Don’t let it bother you, tough guy.”Â
Frank didn’t bother beating around the bush. “I’m curious. With mutant plants running wild everywhere around the Botanic Gardens, how come your village is still untouched? How do you manage that?”Â
Walter’s face instantly turned wary, and the men standing around all gripped their shovels tighter.Â
“Hey, no need to get so tense! I’m just curious, that’s all. Every place has its own secrets,” Frank said with a laugh.Â
Everyone let out a sigh of relief, but they were still on guard.Â
Inside the RV, Emily snarked, “Frank’s talking so much nonsense. Why not just say what we’re here for? He’s totally wastingÂ
our time.Â
As she said that, she hopped out and waved for everyone else to follow her out of the RVÂ
When the guys saw a bunch of stunning babes step out, each with big chests and tiny waists, their eyes nearly popped out ofÂ
their heads.Â

And when Chloe got out, some of them were practically drooling.Â
Just then, someone in the crowd called out, “Mia?”Â

Someone caught sight of Mia, who’d escaped last night. Nobody expected her to still be alive, and the crowd instantly buzzed with excitement.Â
In their heads, the men were secretly counting how many women there were, each one hoping he’d get his chance to claim one for himself.Â
Mia shrank back in fear when she saw the man calling her name, and Mindy quickly stepped in front of her to block him.Â
The man strolled over, wearing a big, fake smile.Â
“Mia’s one of our own. She got lost last night, so thanks for bringing her back, folks. We’ll slaughter a chicken and a sheep and treat you all to a feast!” he announced.Â
Chloe dismissed him with a wave, her tone cold as ice. “Don’t bother with the feast. From now on, Mia’s with Blaze Haven. She’s not one of your villagers anymore.”Â
Everyone looked confused, thinking to themselves, ‘Blaze Haven? Where the hell is that? How come we’ve never even heard of it?‘Â
‘Probably just some tiny base,’ they all thought to themselves.Â
But most of them were straight–up pissed, barely able to hide the anger in their eyes.Â
One of the creepy–looking men in the crowd finally lost it and snapped, his voice cold. “Mia’s one of our women! You can’t just take her!”Â
“That’s right, she belongs to us!” someone else echoed.Â
Ever since the apocalypse started, barely any women managed to awaken any powers. With men being way stronger, women were always on the losing side.Â
That’s why the guys in this village started seeing women as nothing more than accessories or possessions–just stuff they could buy, sell, or own.Â
Emily couldn’t take it anymore. “What the hell are you even saying? Mia joined Blaze Haven because she wanted to. She’s a person, not some object. She’s got the right to make her own choices.”Â
Emily had been with Chloe the longest. She used to be all meek and quiet, but now she was a real badass.Â
She planted her hands on her hips, looking fierce as hell.Â
