To the villagers, Frank’s words were pure rebellion. Their anger was so intense it practically spilled out of their eyes, every gaze burning with rage. 

They tightened their grip on their forks, and the once scattered crowd started surging forward, moving in on him. 

One of the shifty–eyed guys finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. His eyes were glued to Mindy, drooling like a dog, and he was getting hard right there for everyone to see. 

It was already over ninety degrees, and everyone was in shorts and T–shirts, so nobody missed what was happening to him. 

Instead of scolding him, the crowd just pointed and laughed. “Damn, how long’s it been since you saw a woman?” 

“No worries, there are plenty of women here today. Take your pick.” 

To these men, women were just things to be traded around however they liked. They figured Frank was the same, so they assumed he was just as shameless. 

That’s why they acted so brazenly. 

The teasing didn’t embarrass the shifty–eyed guy at all. If anything, he looked even happier, his eyes now openly leering at Mindy. 

Mindy wasn’t as jaw–dropping as Chloe, but her body was on another level. Her chest heaved with every angry breath, and the men around her couldn’t take their eyes off her. 

Everyone was sizing them up like merchandise, and even the old man didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. 

No one noticed an old woman standing at the back of the crowd, looking sick to her stomach, her legs shaking so much she could barely stand. 

Walter flashed a grin at Frank. “Buddy, you sure know how to pick ‘em. Where’d you find so many women? And every single one is a real stunner.” 

Frank shot the old man a sympathetic look, opened his mouth to reply, but before he could say a word, a man’s agonized cry rang out nearby, 

It was the shifty–eyed guy who’d just been mouthing off, now rolling on the ground, clutching his groin. Blood oozed through his fingers as his face turned ghostly pale, howling in pain, 

Mindy, without batting an eye, pulled back a willow branch still dripping with blood. 

The crowd was stunned, scrambling back in panic. “Demoness! Demoness!” 

“Kill the demoness! Kill her!” 

The powered ones readied their powers, while the rest raised their axes, all of them looking murderous. 

Chloe and the crew just burst out laughing. She thought, ‘So, guys with powers are legends, but women with powers are freaks? Seriously, what a bunch of double standard jerks! 

They weren’t about to waste any more time. Mindy touched the guy on the ground without hesitation, burning him alive. Then she spoke up, her voice cold as ice. 

She said, “Cut the crap. You get one shot–either come work at Blaze Haven and earn ten pounds of rations a day, or just

With a flick of her wrist, she sent another jet of flame flying. If the guy next to her hadn’t run for his life, he’d be toast too. 

The crowd just couldn’t wrap their heads around it. Walter shoved his way forward, face red with fury. “We took you in out of the goodness of our hearts, and this is how you repay us? This is outrageous!” 

Right when they were about to start tying people up, a shaky voice called out from the back of the crowd. “Stop!” 

Miranda shuffled to the front, leaning on her cane, her eyes filled with shock, fear, and disbelief as she stared at Chloe and the others. 

“Can’t believe you’re still alive!” she blurted out, her voice trembling. 

Chloe turned around and smiled. “Looks like you made it too, huh?” 

Miranda was the one who got them surrounded by thousands of zombies and ditched them when things got bad. 

Not even that crazy hailstorm could take her out. Honestly, it’s kind of unbelievable. 

“That’s her! She’s the demoness who killed all the women in our village! Everyone, kill her!” Miranda shouted, her voice shaking with fury. 

The crowd froze in shock. 

They remembered how she had come crawling back, looking like she’d barely survived, telling them that all women had been slaughtered by a demoness who could lure zombies right to them. 

That was all it took. The whole crowd erupted, every eye locked on Chloe, burning with hatred. 

When Miranda bailed, she saw Chloe and the crew trapped by a horde of zombies and smugly assumed they’d just gotten lucky and slipped away. 

She had no clue that every last zombie had been slaughtered. 

Now, feeling cocky with their numbers, the villagers didn’t even see Chloe and her group as a threat. 

“Just what we need–no women left in the village. Seize them!” she barked. 

Emily was so pissed that she actually laughed, then spat right in her face. “You old fossil! You were the one who ditched your team, made us bait for the zombies so you could run off, and now you’re trying to pin it on us?” 

Miranda was Walter’s wife, a real authority figure in the village. But now, getting called an old fossil by a young girl, her face went livid with rage. 

She jabbed a finger at Emily, voice shaking. “You dare insult me?” 

“I’m not just gonna insult you. I’m gonna smack you too,” Emily shot back. 

With a swift kick, Emily caught her off guard and sent her sprawling, flat on her back with her limbs splayed out like a turtle flipped over. 

That was the last straw for the crowd. People started brandishing their weapons, looking like they were about to charge at Emily and her crew. 

But before they could even make a move, everyone suddenly squatted down, clutching their heads and howling in pain.

Emily was now a level 3 powered human, and to these mostly ordinary people, she was basically the boss here. 

When it came to lower–level powered humans, she could mess with their minds all at once, hitting them with mental attacks that left them writhing in agony. 

At first, nobody had a clue what was happening. But then Miranda looked up and saw Emily in action, her eyes nearly popping out of her head. 

She pointed a trembling finger at Emily, looking like she wanted to bite her head off. 

“Demoness! She’s a demoness!” she shrieked. “She’s using her evil magic on us! Kill her! Kill her!” 

The men, still under Emily’s control, forced their heads up, faces twisted in pain as they tried to use their powers against 

her. 

One of them gritted his teeth and shouted, “Yeah, kill the demoness! The rest of the women are ours!” 

That line sent the guys into a frenzy. Their eyes were burning with pure greed and crazed desire. 

They didn’t even get a chance to move. Frank just stepped up and hacked their arms right off, no mercy. 

Frank looked over at Chloe and asked, “Chloe, these people have twisted morals. The apocalypse has warped them into something unrecognizable. 

“Do we really want to take them in?” 

The whole crew turned to Chloe, uneasy about bringing a bunch of shady types into Blaze Haven. They were worried these guys would stir up trouble or blab about everything going on inside the base. 

Chloe let out a deep sigh. “Who’s really normal anymore in the apocalypse?” 

Even if they went searching for other survivors, good luck finding anyone with the same morals as before all this went down. 

She said, “We’re just bringing them in to harvest wheat anyway. Doesn’t matter what they’re like.” 

“Exactly. One step at a time–we get stronger, and if some other base tries to mess with us, we’ll just tear our way out!” 

“Damn right.” 

So, with the whole village watching in terror, Mindy crushed them all by herself. 

Nobody even dared to fart. 

Everyone was tied up, hands and feet bound, staring at them in sheer terror. Walter was shaking so hard he peed his pants right there.
