Chapter 223Â
They’d only spent three days at Blaze Haven, and if it weren’t for the missions they still had to complete, they would’ve loved to stay longer.Â
Even the soldiers looked back at the base with longing in their eyes, clearly not wanting to leave.Â
Some powered humans who weren’t soldiers but had tagged along for their abilities couldn’t help but ask, “Major, can’t we stay a few more days?”Â
They were itching to stay, maybe even make Blaze Haven their new home. But they knew that was never going to happen.Â
William sighed, “Don’t think I can’t see right through you. That’s not happening.”Â
A young soldier, eyes lighting up, blurted out, “Why not just move Bluehaven Base here?” The moment he said it, he got whacked on the head.Â
“There are tens of thousands of people at Bluehaven Base. If we all moved here, we’d just end up competing with Blaze Haven for all the resources around here,” said William.Â
The soldier rubbed his head. “Geez, I was just talking, no need to smack me.”Â
William added, “I’ll smack you again if I have to. You think you can just move tens of thousands of people on a whim?Â
“If our bases end up side by side, we’ll be fighting over resources, and our good relationship with Blaze Haven could turn sour real quick.”Â
Besides, it was not like they would even stand a chance against those maniacs if things got ugly.Â
“Come on, let’s get moving,” William ordered.Â
Time flew by, and another half month had passed.Â
Blaze Haven had harvested greens several more times, but once the temperature hit 122°F, even the drought and heat- resistant seeds stopped sprouting.Â
The mutant plants in Grovenwich were growing at an insane pace, like they’d been pumped full of steroids.Â
With the Botanic Gardens at the center, the mutant plants had pretty much wrapped themselves around Blaze Haven.Â
Every day, people from the base would go out to hunt the mutant plants, but no matter how many they killed, there were always more.Â
Before long, the whole city of Grovenwich was overrun by mutant plants.Â
Most of the mutant plants that got taken out would just sprout back up overnight, and they were barely first–tier at best. The kids from the base or newly awakened powered humans were usually sent out to deal with these weaklings.Â
As for the tougher mutant plants, Frank, Mindy, and the strongest powered humans would lead the teams to hunt them down.Â
When it came to the Botanic Gardens, Chloe had laid down the law. No one was allowed inside. If any tough mutant plant tried to reach its ivies out, it was to be chopped down right then and there.Â
Strangely enough, ever since Chloe sliced off one of the mutant ivy’s ivies, it never appeared again.Â

Chapter 223Â
Now, Grovenwich was completely overrun by mutant creatures and plants. To outsiders, it just looked like wild, abandoned land. Nobody had a clue there was a base hidden inside.Â
Inside the base, it was like a whole other world, busy, lively, and totally chill, like their own hidden paradise compared to the wild mess outside.Â
With so many water–powered humans around, water was never a problem. Everyone could drink their fill and even shower every day, as long as nobody got too crazy with it.Â
The water from showers got reused for laundry, flushing toilets, or even watering the crops.Â
Everyone had a smile on their face, just living their best life.Â
Powered humans went out hunting every day, and when they got back in the evening, they’d swap their haul for points and hit up the supermarket for whatever they wanted.Â
But outside the walls of Blaze Haven, it was a whole different story.Â
The place was choked with mutant plants, moss and ivies smothered the walls, and all sorts of bugs had taken over, making it look just like some untouched, primeval jungle.Â
Anyone who saw it would never guess there was a base hidden inside, just a town, totally abandoned.Â
Phantom Zombie had been gone for days, but when it came back, it had actually evolved in just three days.Â
It was the only one who could wander through Grovenwich without getting attacked, not a person, but a zombie.Â
When it showed up, its crew of zombie lackeys was right behind her. People freaked out, and the regular folks started screaming, “Zombies are in the base! Grab whatever you can!”Â
At that, everyone grabbed whatever they could use as a weapon and rushed over.Â
Phantom Zombie looked totally human, so nobody in the base realized she was a zombie, too. They just thought it was just a zombie attack. “Phantom, run! I’ll cover you!”Â
Harry roared, charging forward with a shovel gripped tight, eyes burning with rage. “Damn it, we’ve been hiding out in the wilds, and you zombies still come for us? Over my dead body!”Â
The field workers grabbed their farm tools and stormed in to fight the zombies, faces twisted with fury, like they were ready to tear the undead apart, just like facing their worst enemy.Â
But what happened next was totally unexpected.Â
Everyone thought the zombies would go nuts and start attacking, so they were ready to risk it all.Â
But to everyone’s shock, the zombies just stood there, totally frozen, letting the humans whack them with their farm tools without even trying to fight back.Â
Phantom Zombie got shoved to the side, its pale eyes going blank with confusion.Â
Two women pulled her back. “Phantom, are you okay? Did any of those zombies scratch you? Hurry, go to the pharmacy and grab some immunity liquid, just in case.”Â
They hauled Phantom Zombie over to the pharmacy, only to realize she didn’t have enough points to trade for any immunity liquid.Â
While she was stressing out, a few more women showed up. “I’ve got some points left. Let’s chip in together, we’ll definitelyÂ

be able to afford it.”Â
Phantom Zombie was totally out of it as it got dragged inside, its slow brain just now realizing that its zombie lackeys hard been wiped out.Â
It struggled to force out a few sounds. “They were-Â
“Yeah, they’re zombies, right? Hurry up and drink this immunity liquid!” a woman said.Â
Phantom Zombie blinked, and with that interruption, its mind went completely blank. What am I about to say again? she wondered.Â
Just as a few well–meaning women were about to force the immunity liquid into Phantom Zombie’s mouth, Emily spotted them and shouted, “Hey, what are you doing?”Â
One of the kind–hearted ladies quickly filled her in on what had just happened.Â
“Emily, we’re just trying to help. Phantom, come on, drink this up, one of the ladies urged.Â
She stared at Phantom Zombie, who just stood there blank–faced and spaced out, worry etched deep into her features.Â
Phantom Zombie never spoke, so everyone just thought it was a little weird in the head. Nobody ever suspected it might actually be a zombie.Â
Chloe had given Phantom Zombie strict orders not to harm anyone in the base, so things had always been peaceful between them.Â
As soon as Phantom Zombie caught a whiff of the immunity liquid, its brows knitted together in discomfort.Â
It couldn’t help but take a step back.Â
Immunity liquid was made to suppress the zombie virus, and since Phantom Zombie was one itself, it was naturally repulsed and a little scared by the smell.Â
The kind–hearted lady stepped closer, still trying to help, and Phantom Zombie’s eyes flashed with menace.Â
The sight of that immunity liquid set off alarm bells in its head, and in its not–so–bright mind, the lady with the medicine instantly became a bad guy.Â
But with Chloe’s order echoing in her mind, even though the urge to attack was written all over its face, it held itself back and didn’t make a move.Â
Just as Phantom Zombie looked like it was about to go berserk, Emily, quick as lightning, snatched the immunity liquid out of their hands.Â
“Really appreciate you guys looking out for her, but Phantom’s fine. I’ll send you five hundred points from me, let’s just call it even for the immunity liquid,” Emily said.Â
