Chapter 224Â
Hearing this, the kind–hearted towpeople looked a bit enverrassenÂ
“As long as Phantom is okay, we don’t need the points one of them said.Â
They were about to leave when Emily stopped them. You should take them. 1 earn points xch Lester as you doÂ
It was true. Emily was a powerful powered human, a force to be reckoned with in the eyer of chanary google the bad se than a hundred times the points they did.Â
Going out to hunt mutant zombies was the best way to rack up points.Â
In the end, the kind–hearted townspeople accepted Emily’s Kindness and left, each one booking hayÂ
After all, it was tough for ordinary people to earn points. They could only do it through hard work.Â
Back when they were harvesting, rye, it was so exhausting that each person only gra 50 gotes deer word hays of wor But now, with barely any work left in the fields, people just did whatever small tasks they could findÂ
They even had to go out and look for work themselves.Â
People with special skills could earn up to 100 points, but most regular folks got much less, tually just around 29 pois.Â
Those points were just barely enough for them to get by, no extra to spare.Â
It was not like Chloe was being stingy. When people were hungry, all they cared about was filling their somada. But once they were fed, a whole bunch of new worries started popping up.Â
That was why, when people had nothing to worry about after a full meal, that was when trouble started brewing Survivors might even start stirring up trouble.Â
Now, with everyone suddenly getting an extra 500 points, they were all pretty happy about it.Â
They couldn’t help but feel a bit envious. Powered humans really did earn points way faster.Â
Once everyone had left, Emily, with Phantom Zombie in tow, made her way over to where the zombies were gathered by the city gate.Â
At that moment, each of the fourth level zombie was being relentlessly beaten by ordinary folks wielding farm tooks they just stood there, unfazed and unmoving. Two of them already had their heads smashed open.Â
“Stop, Emily called out. It made everyone stop what they were doingÂ
Seeing the confused looks on their faces, Emily cleared her throat with a couple of dry coughs, fist to her mouth inghe, les me take care of this. You all can get back to what you were doing?Â
Once everyone had left, Emily turned to Phantom Zombie with a puzzled look. “Are all of these yours?Â
Phantom Zombie’s pale eyes shifted as it nodded slowly, “Yeah, they are spirit–powered zombies, y drwÂ
Emily suddenly understood. She pointed at the six remaining the fourth level zombies and asked in surprise. “Whis, you’re saying all these are spirit–powered mutant zombies, and they work for you?”Â
Phantom Zombie nodded again.Â

“So, they didn’t attack anyone because you ordered them not to?” Emily asked.Â
Phantom Zombie nodded again.Â

Emily couldn’t help but pull Phantom Zombie into a tight hug, “Damn, Phantom Zombie, you’re a genius! I can’t believe you can actually control zombies!”Â
With these six spirit–powered mutant zombies joining the team, the base’s security just went up a notch.Â
Mutant plants weren’t interested in the decaying flesh of zombies, so the zombies could roam around and keep watch outside, reporting back with anything important.Â
Soon, Chloe and the crew got the news, and tagging along was a teenager named Todd Harris, Yvonne’s younger brother, a total tech genius who handled all the wiring and internet at the base,Â
Leo tinkered with the six zombies for a while. “Done! Now every zombie’s got a pinhole camera strapped on.”Â
He grinned, “So even if Emily’s not at the base, we can check out what’s going on outside whenever we want.”Â
With everyone’s hopes pinned on them, the six the fourth level mutant zombies marched out of the base.Â
Since Phantom Zombie was calling the shots, they never wandered too far.Â
And with all that rotten meat on them, most mutant creatures wouldn’t even think about taking a bite, except for those mutant creatures that actually go for rotten meat.Â
Everyone headed to the control room, a dedicated space with walls covered in monitors, streaming live feeds from every corner of the base.Â
Chloe couldn’t help but praise him, “Not bad, Todd. This setup looks pretty legit.”Â
Todd scratched his head shyly. “I’ve been into gadgets like this since I was little. I’m not good at much else, but I love. messing around with stuff like this”Â
Chloe nodded. “Alright, from now on, you’re in charge of all the wiring and surveillance at the base. I’ll give you 500 points a day.”Â
Todd’s eyes lit up. 500 points were enough to buy all sorts of things, even mutagenic liquid, if he saved up for a few days.Â
“Really?” Todd whispered.Â
Chloe nodded, glancing around the room with a satisfied look.Â
“Of course. If you really impress me, your points get doubled,” she added.Â
Right now, the cheapest thing at the supermarket was rye. Not only did it keep one full, but once it was ground into flour, it tasted amazing.Â
For just 10 points, one could get a pound of rye flour. If one wanted the whole grains, it was even cheaper, only 5 points per pound.Â
Most people were pretty frugal, saving up their points whenever they could. Since they had some free time anyway, they’d just buy the whole grains and grind them into flour at home.Â
The base would even buy back the flour you made, paying you 10 points per pound.Â

With a bumper harvest this year at Blaze Haven, most folks who couldn’t find work would grind rye into flour themselves, pocketing a 5–point profit from the difference.Â
But without any machines, grinding wheat into flour by hand really took a lot of time.Â
Next up was water.Â
While water was scarce everywhere else, Blaze Haven was doing pretty well, thanks to the more than a dozen water–powered humans on site.Â
As their powers grew, they could control water better and better, filling up a whole bucket in just a few seconds.Â
For 10 points, you could get a big bucket of water. If you used it sparingly, it could last you for days.Â
“It’s working!” Emily called out, her voice buzzing with excitement.Â
She pointed at the six screens they’d just set up, each one flashing with activity.Â
Every screen showed what the six zombies were seeing out there.Â
Five of the spirit–powered zombies were just pacing around the base, doing their rounds.Â
But one, nearly the fifth level, was heading along the wall to the east, right where the base met the Botanic Gardens. Nobody had ever gone that way before.Â
Outside the wall, thick moss blanketed everything, teeming with weird critters, and all kinds of mutant plants tangled together.Â
Even through the screens, you could feel how freaky that place was.Â
Emily pointed at the monitor, her voice tense. “Chloe, look! That zombie’s actually heading into the Botanic Gardens. Is that going to be a problem?”Â
Everyone knew how scary the Botanic Gardens were. Chloe had warned them plenty of times to stay away.Â
Now, seeing a mutant zombie walk right in, everyone couldn’t help but feel uneasy.Â
Chloe fixed her gaze on the monitor showing Zombie 6, her expression calm and focused.Â
“I’m pretty curious about what’s in the Botanic Gardens, too. Might as well let him check it out for us,” she said.Â
With Chloe’s words, everyone crowded around, tense and excited, all eyes glued to the sixth screen.Â
Honestly, they were dying to know what on earth was hiding inside the Botanic Gardens.Â
Almost every mutant plant in Grovenwich traced its roots back to that place.Â
Seriously, if Blaze Haven wasn’t here, the whole of Grovenwich would’ve been completely taken over by mutant plants byÂ
now.Â
