Chapter 234 

Chloe was deep in thought when the system suddenly spoke up. “If you leave, the ivy in the Botanic Gardens might make a move.” 

“What does that mean?” Chiara asked, looking puzzled. 

“Your strength is formidable. As long as you’re at the base, the ivy will think twice before acting. But if you leave, it might rally all the powerful mutant creatures to attack Blaze Haven,” the system explained. 

Chloe was startled. She wondered, ‘Has that mutant ivy really evolved to be this cunning? Can’t the base’s defenses hold it back? 

‘If that’s the case, it might be best to stay put for now. 

It was a bit of a pity, though. The energy source in Lakeside was insanely strong. In her previous life, that place churned out countless top–tier fighters. 

Back then, she’d been beaten down over and over, always lagging behind. Now, she wasn’t about to let even the tiniest chance to rise up slip through her fingers. 

But the base was her life’s work. She couldn’t just walk away. People needed each other, and the world was only getting harsher. Chloe couldn’t stand the thought of being the last person left on earth. 

The Botanic Gardens had an energy source, too, just as powerful as the one in Lakeside. But with only Chloe and the powered humans from Blaze Haven, there was no way they could break in right now. 

Lakeside was different. All the elite fighters from the south had gathered there, so there was still hope for victory. 

Of course, in her previous life, that battle had exhausted most of the elite fighters and ended in a crushing defeat. 

“System, is there really no other option?” Chloe asked. 

The system’s voice sounded a bit urgent, like it had been just waiting for Chloe to bring it up. 

It said, “There is. You can exchange your spiritual space points, or trade in all the mutant cores from the forbidden zone in your spiritual space. Or, you could relocate to the newly built room by the east wall of the base.” 

Chloe’s eyes sparkled. “So, if I stand right on top of the energy source, you can just absorb it directly?” 

The system replied proudly, “Obviously. If where you’re living now wasn’t so far from the new room, I’d have upgraded already.” 

Chloe couldn’t hide her excitement. 

‘What’s there to hesitate about? Time to pack up and move!‘ Chloe thought. 

Chloe quickly packed up all her stuff and, with just the essentials, made her way to the new housing area in a matter of minutes. 

Clayton and his crew moved fast. Within just a month, they’d built over a hundred houses. They were basic rural houses, but still, it was impressive. 

None of the houses here were decorated; the interiors were pretty bare, but it didn’t affect how comfortable they were to live

Chloe rounded up a few folks nearby.

“Chief, what do you need?” one of them asked. 

She pointed to the room behind her. “Just spruce it up a bit for me, and I’ll trade you five hundred points.” 

‘Five hundred points?‘ they gasped, hardly daring to believe it. 

They could barely contain their excitement. 

After all, they usually only earned a few dozen points a day at most. 

“Sure, we’ll get it done,” they promised. 

Under Chloe’s direction, the guys quickly put up wallpaper and installed the lights. In just half a day, each of them walked away with five hundred points, grinning from ear to car. 

As they left, the guys were already joking about whether it was finally time to find themselves a wife. 

In the apocalypse, just keeping themselves alive was hard enough. The idea of getting a wife was just wishful thinking.

But now that they were strong and had saved up a bunch of points lately, they figured maybe they could actually support a family. That was when their thoughts started to change. 

People liked to say men and women were equal, but in a world where power was everything, unless a woman was a powered human, most just didn’t have the strength. Regular women still had to depend on men to survive. 

Chloe pretty much left all that stuff alone, as long as everyone was doing it of their own free will. 

Every house here had the same setup–a one–bedroom, one–living room layout, perfect for Chloe to live in. 

As for bigger families, they’d go for the villas instead. 

The villas had fancy interiors, but they could just move in without paying. But these houses required points to buy. 

After all, living here meant their powers would grow even while they slept. No one wouldn’t be thrilled about that. 

It took Chloe half an hour to get the room set up. It wasn’t big, but it felt cozy. 

She flopped down on the couch, closed her eyes, and luxuriated in soaking up the endless stream of energy flowing up from underground. 

Just absorbing this energy made her feel completely rejuvenated and blissfully comfortable. 

“System, is it possible for you to absorb all the underground energy?” Chloe asked. 

“Even as a Spiritual Space System, absorbing energy takes time. The underground energy source is massive. There’s no way I could drain it all,” the system replied. 

Chloe let out a sigh of relief. “That’s good. I was planning to expand the base to cover the entire underground energy source, so all the powered humans here could level up just by sleeping.” 

Chloe could almost picture Blaze Haven as the world’s largest base in the future, and a smile lit up her face. 

For the past few days, Chloe had been hanging out with Bell, watching him and his crew use machines to crank out bread. 

They made two kinds. One was lightly sweet with a hint of milk–cheap, tasty, and a total hit with the kids. 

The other was salty bread, loaded with essential salt. It kept people full for hours and could easily take the place of those compressed biscuits..

Plus, it tasted way better than compressed biscuits and was packed with protein and nutrients. 

This bread was a must–have for powered humans heading out on missions. 

Chloe watched as the bread rolled out of the machine, and suddenly, inspiration struck. She walked over to the first stage of the grinder. 

As she watched the rye kernels get hulled and crushed, she waved her hand, channeling a burst of green energy right into the flour. 

When she checked out the finished bread, she could see the ones she’d infused with energy were clearly a shade lighter. 

She picked up a loaf, turning it over and examining it from every angle. Bell noticed the odd color as well and wanderer! over, looking confused. 

“Chief, why does this loaf of bread look different?” Bell asked. 

Chloe handed it over. “I infused something extra into this one. See if you can tell the difference.” 

Since the power came from her, she wouldn’t feel any effect if she ate it herself. 

Bell didn’t hesitate. He took a huge bite out of half the bread, and his eyes lit up. 

He blurted out, “Chief, what did you put in this? I can feel those old injuries inside me starting to heal.” 

“Really?” Chloe asked. 

Bell nodded eagerly. “This bread actually helps with recovery. My old wounds are healing up!” 

“That’s amazing,” Chloe said, her face lighting up. 

With everyone watching, Chloe made some ice cubes, injected them with a green liquid, and then threw them into the grinder to be processed together with the rye. 

When the bread came out, they could actually heal wounds. 

Chloe was absolutely thrilled. 

Chloe told the four to work overtime making bread, and their points would be doubled again. 

“Okay!” Bell and his crew were literally jumping for joy. 

Chloe worried she might be overworking the four, so she considered bringing in some extra help. But Bell immediately refused. 

They had the skills for this. Only their team could make rye bread with healing properties. If ordinary folks got involved, the healing effect might not work as well. 

Plus, no way they were going to let anyone else cut into their points.
