Chloe tapped her on the forehead, a bit speechless. “You really are a little foodie. Mutant beast meat is dry and kind of sour, not tasty at all. But it’s loaded with nutrients.”

“Hurry up and pack it up, Chloe! When we get back to the base, have Bell make some meat patties out of it and see if it tastes better that way,” Chiara said eagerly.

Chiara had been through tough times herself, so she wasn’t about to let any useful food go to waste.

Chiara’s eyes lit up the moment she heard mutant beasts were edible.

Chloe gave her a playful flick on the forehead, and Chiara instantly clutched her head. “Ow, that hurts!”

Normally, Mindy could only get her flames up to 1,100°F, but this time, they easily hit 2,000°F. That was wild.

Emily still looked a little shaken. “Seriously, those flames were insane. I thought I was gonna get roasted alive.”

Everyone chimed in, realizing just how crucial teamwork was. Their combat power had jumped up several levels.

A bunch of third–level and fourth–level powered humans actually took down a sixth–level monster in one go. If they told anyone, nobody would believe it.

And the craziest part was that their strongest fighter hadn’t even made a move yet.

Chloe was all smiles. “See? That’s why support is so important.”

“Chiara boosted our abilities, and Renee weakened the enemy’s powers. With that combo, we pretty much had the upper

hand, Chloe said with confidence.

After that battle, everyone was way less tense. They were still on guard, but nowhere near as nervous as before.

Chloe scanned the area and pulled out a rope from her storage space. Frank had crafted it from mutant beast hide, so it was super tough and almost impossible to break.

“Everyone, grab the rope and hold on tight. Make sure no one gets lost,” Chloe said.

This fog was seriously strange. It was most likely caused by some mutant creature with a special power.

“If we want to get out of here, we need to track down the mutant creature that’s creating all this fog,” Chloe said.

Just then, the sounds of battle and desperate cries for help came from nearby, growing louder and more intense.

Everyone exchanged glances, gripping the rope tightly as they moved forward with caution.

Suddenly, a monster just as huge as the last one crashed through the fog, appearing before their eyes.

It towered over 30 feet tall and stretched more than 60 feet long, its body as massive as a dinosaur. Its long neck stretched up into the mist, its head completely hidden from view.

It raised one massive foot and slammed it down, the ground trembling as someone was instantly crushed into a bloody pulp.

Standing before a giant like this, humans seemed utterly insignificant and vulnerable.

This dinosaur–like beast had a neck and tail both at least 15 feet long. Its head was pretty small, but when it opened its mouth, it looked several times bigger than its head itself.

“Help! Help!” the survivors cried out.

Spotting Chloe’s squad, the survivors dashed over, running so frantically that some even lost a shoe along the way.

When they finally reached the group, the survivors realized they were facing a bunch of elderly, sick, and frail people. None of them looked strong enough to fight back. For a moment, the survivors just froze, stunned.

“It’s you guys?” a man said.

The leader of the survivors wore a look of disdain, his eyes scanning the area. Not seeing the soldiers they’d run into before, he got a lot bolder.

“Hey, pretty. Where’s your man? Don’t tell me he ditched you and ran off when things got tough,” he jeered, his greedy gaze locked on Chloe.

Chloe didn’t get angry. Instead, she crossed her arms and watched him with obvious sarcasm, her eyes fixed on something behind him.

She said, “You’ve got the nerve to joke around at a time like this? If I were you, I’d run at once, or maybe beg for mercy. Who knows, if I’m feeling generous, I might even save your sorry ass,” Chloe said.

The man followed her gaze, his pupils dilating in terror. He almost pissed himself on the spot.

Right behind him stood the monster, its bloody jaws still holding a woman. Just this morning, she’d been cuddling up to him, acting all sweet.

Now, her once–whole body was bitten clean in half at the waist, and the overwhelming stench of blood assaulted his senses.

“No… No…” the man cried out, his voice shaking with terror.

His legs buckled and he dropped to the ground. He tried desperately to get up, but it was hopeless. He could only scramble backward on the ground, panic written all over his face.

“No… Don’t come any closer!” he kept muttering, like he was delirious.

He watched in horror as the monster swallowed the rest of the woman’s body, and then opened its massive jaws wide again.

Out of nowhere, he found the strength to jump up and run for his life.

As he passed Filip, he flashed a vicious grin.

He snatched Filip up, just like he’d done to his teammate earlier, and tossed him toward the monster, hoping to use Filip as bait so he could get away.

Unfortunately for him, he grabbed the wrong person.

Blaze Squad members were not the kind of people he could push around.

Filip, instead of panicking, latched onto the guy’s arm like a vice. No way he was letting go.

Rather than getting tossed, the man got zapped so hard that his whole body convulsed, and the sharp stench of burnt hair and skin filled the air.

The dinosaur–like monster loomed right in front of them when a long green vine suddenly shot out from beneath its head, snatching Filip away and pulling him back at the last second.

He narrowly escaped the monster’s jaws.

In the end, only the thug got swallowed by the monster in one big gulp.

Seeing that, the rest of his crew bolted in every direction, vanishing into the thick fog in a heartbeat.

For some reason, when the monster ran into Blaze Squad, it felt a shiver run down its spine. It wasn’t looking for a fight but just took off as fast as it could.
