William grinned, flashing his big white teeth. “Awesome, just awesome,” he said.

Soldiers handled the mutant beetles near the crack, while Renee took care of collecting them into the spiritual space.

Chloe had already said it. None of these mutant beetles was for them. Every last one was going to Bluehaven Base.

The deal was that every time Bluehaven Base came up with a new product, Blaze Haven always got a share.

Bluehaven Base was running low on food, while Blaze Haven needed advanced weapons and all sorts of experimental drugs.

It worked out perfectly for both sides.

Sure, Chloe had healing ability, but there was only so much one person could do. It was always smart to keep some medicine around.

James walked over to Mindy, picked up a crispy yellow mutant beetle from the ground, and took a bite. It was crunchy.

“Wow, this is delicious,” James thought.

He quickly grabbed a handful and rushed over to William. “Hey, William, you’ve got to try this! It’s seriously tasty, kind of like cicada.”

He made sure to snap off the beetle’s two big front pincers first. Chloe had warned that they were poisonous and not to eat them.

William took a bite, chewing thoughtfully. It tasted amazing.

“Let’s pick up the pace, everyone! This smell’s bound to attract trouble soon,” William warned.

Before William could finish, those who had disappeared into the fog slowly made their way back.

Their eyes glowed red, as wolves starved for days, lurking in the night. They looked like they were just one step away from attacking and devouring someone.

But when they saw the scene in front of them, they all stopped, stunned by what they saw.

They’d been expecting a real feast and were already ready with their excuses, whether to intimidate, sweet–talk, or just snatch things by force.

With their numbers, they figured if they all rushed in, maybe someone could even snag a drumstick for themselves.

They’d been fantasizing about all sorts of tasty treats, but ended up with nothing at all

Mutant beetles kept crawling out of the northern crack, but the humans‘ powder kept them at bay, so instead of attacking. they just got slaughtered.

Anyone who’d survived this long was no fool. With just a bit of snooping around, they quickly figured out what was happening.

“Damn, these mutant beetles are actually edible?” someone blurted out. And just like that, everyone made a beeline for the

northern crack.

As they scrambled and shouted, they complained loudly, “Man, you guys are really stingy! Keeping all the good stuff to yourselves and not sharing with the rest of us!”

“Wait, where did all those dead mutant beetles go? They were just here a second ago!” someone shouted.

“Those guys must’ve taken them all for themselves,” another person grumbled.

“Seriously, that’s so damn shameless! We did all the work killing them, so why should they get to hog everything?” someone else yelled.

“No way, I’m going to go confront them about this,” someone declared.

A tough, muscular middle–aged woman smacked the guy upside the head. “Focus on killing the mutant beetles first.”

Everything else could wait till later.

Chloe and William exchanged a look, nodded in perfect sync, and while everyone else was busy scrambling for the beetles, their two teams quietly slipped into their vehicles and drove off without a sound.

By the time those powered humans finally realized what was going on, they were already under siege from all sorts of

mutant creatures.

Chloe and her crew weren’t catching a break either. They’d run into a zombie tiger blocking their path.

It towered over 30 feet tall, still bearing the outline of a tiger, but all the details had been twisted beyond recognition.

Its eyes were hollow and gray, completely lifeless, and its body was covered in rotting flesh.

Unlike mutant tigers, which could develop powers and whose meat was safe to eat, this zombie tiger had no abilities, just endless decay.

To put it simply, the zombie tiger was just like a human zombie, except it was a massive, hulking beast instead of a person.

This thing could easily overpower any human zombie, and its nose was so sharp it could sniff out prey from miles away.

The souped–up Base Truck was nothing but a speck of dust compared to the zombie tiger. One casual swipe of its paw, and the whole truck would be smashed to bits in a heartbeat.

“Chloe, this zombie tiger looks really tough to deal with,” Emily said, her eyes locked on the beast. “I swear, it’s got its sights set on Chloe.”

Through the car window, the zombie tiger’s milky eyes seemed to be fixed on Chloe, blood–tinged drool dripping steadily from its half–open mouth.

Chloe swallowed hard, her scalp tingling with dread. She just wanted to burst into tears.

Seriously? Why am I always this unlucky? Yet another insanely strong beast?‘ Chloe thought. Wait, is this the infamous zombie tiger that was always at the top of the kill list in my previous life?

“What now?” William’s voice crackled through the walkie–talkie, a little shaky.

Chloe took a deep breath to steady herself. “We should probably call this one a mutant gombic tiger

“What does that mean?” William asked, looking puzzled

“It has the abilities of both a zombie beast and a mutant beast. Maybe this whole foggy mess is its doing. Chloe explained.

It was so hard to catch that there was a bounty of one hundred tenth–level cores for its capture back then.

Chloe couldn’t tell if this mutant tiger was the same legendary one from her previous life.

William was silent for a few seconds before his deep voice finally came through. “So, what do we do now?” he asked.

At that moment, William didn’t back down at all. Chloe’s trust in him grew even stronger.

“This is a sixth–level zombie tiger. Guns and ammo are useless against it. Send all powered humans at the fifth level or above, and have everyone else keep their distance,” Chloe instructed.

As soon as Chloe gave the order, all the soldiers quickly pulled back.

Chloe was genuinely surprised. There were actually more than a dozen fifth–level powered humans on their side.

With herself at sixth–level and a whole squad of fifth–level powered humans backing her up, Chloe felt a surge of hope. Maybe we really do stand a chance against this monster,‘ she thought.

Just as the tension was about to snap, the zombie tiger suddenly lunged, swiping its massive paw straight at the Base Truck.

But in the blink of an eye, right as its paw was about to smash down, the entire truck vanished into thin air.

Only a second later, the Blaze Squad materialized behind the mutant zombie tiger, no sign of the Base Truck, just the team already lined up and ready to fight.

It felt like the whole world spun around them; before anyone could even scream, they were already standing behind the zombie tiger.

Before their minds could even process what was happening, their bodies were already reacting. In a split second, a storm of abilities blasted the zombie tiger from every direction.

But this tiger was nothing like your average sixth–level mutant creature. It was far tougher and way more troublesome to

handle.

Frank and Evan, acting as the tanks up front, went all out with their attacks, slamming their palms down on the zombie tiger, but it didn’t budge an inch. Instead, with one casual swipe, the tiger sent them flying a good 100 feet.

These two could shrug off bullets like nothing, but up against the zombie tiger, they didn’t even last a single move

And that was only because Renee had used her spatial restraints and Chiara had boosted their abilities.
