The third boss acted like he was about to attack.

Chloe had caught them off guard earlier and killed two people, but now that they were prepared, it was much harder to assassinate them. 

The real kicker was that the third boss, who’d been making a big show of being outraged, was nowhere to be seen when everyone charged forward. He’d already slipped away. 

Chloe was powerful, but there were just too many enemies. She was pinned down and couldn’t get away. 

“Get lost!” Chloe snapped. 

With a fierce shout, a tornado whipped up, ice blades swirling inside, sweeping people up. When they came out, they were mangled and bloody–so gruesome it was hard to watch. 

The powered humans watching from the sidelines quickly backed away, their faces filled with terror. 

The ground around Chloe was stained with blood, and flecks of it marked her clothes and face. She looked like a hellish reaper risen from the underworld. 

“Anyone else dare step forward?” Chloe taunted. 

Everyone shrank back in fear. 

“Holy crap, who is she? She’s so badass!” 

“Look at her–she’s gorgeous. She must be from one of the major bases.” 

“Yeah, someone this strong and beautiful? Maybe she’s from Ebony Base?” 

‘Or maybe she’s from Radiant Base.” 

“I heard people from Starlight Base are here too, and Noah’s fiancée from Ebony Base is here with them. Could it be her?” 

With those rumors swirling, the way the powered humans looked at Chloe shifted in an instant. 

Some were admiring, some were terrified, and some were already trying to butter her up. 

“No wonder she’s so badass. She’s the heiress of Starlight Base.” 

“Holy crap, she’s gorgeous. If I could have a girlfriend like her, I’d die a happy man.” 

The guy talking had dark circles under his eyes, pale skin, and looked like he could barely stand, obviously from too much indulgence. 

He was openly ogling Chloe when suddenly someone smacked him right on the forehead. 

“Man, you’re like a toad lusting after a swan. You’ve got some nervel Aren’t you afraid the powered humans from Ebony Base will hear you? They might just slice you to pieces,” the other guy sneered. 

The guy with the dark circles shuddered at that.

He nervously glanced around, relieved that no one had overheard. He quietly let out a sigh of relief. 

In the crowd, a young man gazed up at Chloe floating in the air, totally entranced. “Jacob, I want to marry her.” 

Jacob looked thoughtful.

“She’s strong, but she doesn’t have the right family background. She’s not worthy of your status. She could never be your official wife,” Jacob replied. 

He paused, then added, “But with her power, maybe she could be your concubine.” 

The young man hesitated for a moment, then nodded with conviction. 

“Yeah, Jacob, you’re right. But she is so rebellious–how would she ever settle for being a side piece?” Ishaan mused. 

Jacob let out a cold laugh. “With your status, tons of girls from big families would flock to you, happy to be your concubine. If you actually notice her, that’s the biggest honor she’ll ever get.” 

Ishaan gazed at Chloe, totally entranced. “Guess that’s true. With my powerful family and being Noah’s brother–in–law, who wouldn’t look up to me?” 

Jaliyah, standing nearby, was already burning with anger. 

“Ishaan!” Jaliyah called out, her voice sharp as she pointed at Chloe. 

She said, “Don’t let that woman fool you! I’m the real heiress of the Linville family!” 

All the praise stopped cold, and everyone turned to stare at Jaliyah. 

Jaliyah pulled out a family crest made of jade and held it up for everyone to see. “Look, this is the Linville family’s crest. I’m the real Jaliyah!” 

“Whoa, that’s really the Linville family’s crest! I heard it’s crafted from a rare emerald,” someone exclaimed. 

The crowd’s attitude shifted instantly. Now they were all calling the young pretender vain and mocking them for trying to fake their identity. 

But as everyone scrambled to cozy up to Jaliyah, they completely forgot that Chloe had never claimed to be the Linville heiress in the first place. 

With everyone showering her with praise, Jaliyah puffed up like a proud peacock and gave a dismissive glance in Chloe’s direction, only to realize Chloe was nowhere to be seen. 

Chloe had already slipped to the back of the crowd with her crew and settled in. 

The big golden dog looked dazed, staring straight at Chloe without blinking. 

Chloe pulled out some rye bread and a few bottles of water from her spiritual space and offered them to the dog, but it didn’t react at all. 

She kicked the dog on the head. 

“Not hungry?” Chloe asked. 

The dog barked softly. Instinctively, Gavin barked.

When he first developed this mutation, he realized that every time he turned into a dog, he’d start barking without even thinking. So after each transformation, he always tried to control himself. 

But today, he was so stunned that he barked before he could even say a word. 

Chloe stared, surprised. 

She stifled a laugh and chucked the food in front of him. “Hurry up and eat.” 

Gavin felt awkward too. Once he shifted back to human form, he grabbed a bottle of water and downed it in one go, then stretched out with a satisfied sigh. 

He spoke a lot louder now, his voice carrying across the group. 

“I always thought I was the one pretending to be harmless, but girl, you’re way sneakier than me,” Gavin said, grinning. 

He was only surprised for a second before he just rolled with it. 

“Being strong is awesome. With power like yours, nobody’s gonna mess with you. Man, I wish my sister could get this strong too,” Gavin said, sounding genuinely wistful. 

Suddenly, he realized something was off. “Wait, are you a space–powered human?” 

Before Chloe could answer, the crowd around them erupted in chatter. 

“What’s going on up ahead?” 

“I heard a group tried to force their way past the shoreline, but a bunch of sharp–toothed sharks jumped out and swallowed them whole.” 

“So what now? If we can’t get into Lakeside, are we just gonna have to turn back empty–handed?” 

They’d brought the top powered humans from their base for this mission. Never mind all the supplies they’d used up along the way–even just losing so many teammates was enough to make the base take a heavy hit. 

If they returned empty–handed, they could not answer to the base chief, 

While everyone was busy gossiping, a spirit–powered human had already probed the situation in the water. 

The powered humans at the back still hadn’t heard anything. 

After changing her look, Chloe set up camp on the grass and made herself comfortable. 

She was going to pitch a tent for Gavin too, but he just insisted on sleeping outside as a dog. 

She just let him be. 

Three days later, Chloe pulled out a feast from her tent, and with everyone watching hungrily, she fed it all to the “dog” 

That sparked another round of envy and jealousy. 

“Oh my god, who is she? Even her dog eats better than I do,” someone grumbled. 

He shouted over to Chloe, “Hey, got room for another dog at your place?” 

Gavin heard that and bared his teeth, barking loudly at the guy, like he was genuinely afraid someone might take his place as
