He reached out to grab one for a closer look, but as soon as he locked eyes with those dead, soulless pupils–especially when the Phantom Zombie licked its lips–he let out a terrified scream and jumped back a dozen feet.Â
‘Holy crap, that’s the Zombie King!‘ Gavin thought, panic flooding his mind.Â
‘Alright, let’s hurry up and regroup with our teammates,” Chloe said.Â
Gavin froze for a moment. “You have teammates?”Â
Chloe rolled her eyes. “Obviously.”Â
‘By the way, we’ve known each other for days, and I still don’t even know your name,” Gavin said.Â
‘Chloe,” she replied.Â
With that, she started walking again, muttering, “Are these guys seriously obsessed with making deals or what?”Â
The Phantom Zombie swept the area with its spirit sense, and the info it sent back showed that Blaze Squad was constantly hustling deals in the crowd.Â
‘Chloe?” He kept repeating her name in his mind, but Chloe was already striding away. If he didn’t hurry, he’d lose sight ofÂ
ner.Â
‘Wait up, guys!” Gavin barked, scrambling after them.Â
Three minutes later, Chloe, Phantom Zombie, and the dog found themselves right in the middle of a packed crowd, with wo groups of people facing off ahead.Â
One of the groups was Blaze Squad, led by Frank. As for the people from Bluehaven Base, they were nowhere to be seen.Â
The other group had about thirty people, and their leader was a burly guy with a deep, bone–deep scar slashing across his face from the upper left–he looked downright vicious.Â
Both sides had their weapons drawn, glaring each other down.Â
Chloe’s heart skipped a beat. “Jagger.”Â
Ten years from now, he’d be ranked third in the power rankings, an infamous bandit boss who never backed down from taking anything he wanted.Â
Back in Frost City, Chloe had finally scraped together some supplies, only for Jagger to rob her blind.Â
Back then, their strength was worlds apart. She wasn’t even worth his time, let alone a fight.Â
‘But now?‘ Chloe wondered.Â
Chloe cracked her knuckles, itching for a fight.Â
Jagger jabbed a finger at the Base Truck, his voice booming with rage. “You little thieves! I was gone for a second, and you already tried to steal my ride? You must have a death wish!”Â
Frank’s aura exploded, his body swelling to over ten feet tall, his skin turning a burnished bronze..Â
His voice was just as rough, but icy cold.Â

“Ugly, you really think you can just snatch my truck right in front of everyone?” Frank sneered.Â
Jagger let out a booming laugh. “Yeah, I’m snatching it. What are you gonna do about it?”Â

Jagger shot a scornful look at Frank’s crew, then snickered, “What a bunch of wimps–the old, the sick, and the useless. If you don’t scram, you’re dead meat.”Â
The whole team was present. Evan stood shoulder to shoulder with Frank, gripping two massive sledgehammers.Â
Emily, the spirit–powered user, was clearly in command, standing at the center of it all.Â
Chiara held out her hands, a sphere of white light slowly expanding between her palms.Â
Filip, who hadn’t been around for a few days, now looked even more cold and intimidating. Lightning as thick as his wrist slithered over his body, filling the air with a sizzling hum.Â
Renee was ready to act at a moment’s notice. If Emily could pin down the enemy with her spirit power for even a second, Renee’s spatial lock would unleash its full effect.Â
Renee’s spatial lock could instantly suppress their abilities.Â
Mindy was strong, but she stayed at the back, ready to rescue anyone who got hit.Â
The showdown was about to erupt.Â
Chloe wasn’t in any rush. Instead, she was curious to see how much stronger her teammates had gotten.Â
Gavin urged, sounding anxious, “Chloe, come on! Why are you stopping? Weren’t you supposed to meet up with your team?Â
“Oh, right! The crew by the Base Truck up ahead–that’s the group I told you about, the ones selling those rye cakes.”Â
He glared at Jagger, his voice brimming with anger. “That Base Truck is definitely theirs! I saw them driving it when they were selling those rye cakes before.”Â
Nearby powered humans were keeping their distance–about 300 feet from the action. It was close enough to see everything clearly, but far enough to avoid getting dragged into the chaos.Â
No one was surprised to hear Gavin speak. In fact, they just scoffed and laughed at him.Â
“These days, whoever’s got the biggest fists makes the rules. Doesn’t matter whose stuff it is. Might makes right. Winner takes all, loser gets nothing,” the guy jeered.Â
“Is there any justice left? Is there even any law anymore?” Gavin barked, his voice full of indignation.Â
Gavin let out another angry bark, clearly pissed off.Â
That just made the nearby powered humans crack up.Â
“Where’d this dumbass come from? Did a human get dog powers, or did a dog turn into a human?” one of them jeered.Â
Others let out a laugh.Â
As they were still bantering, chaos erupted. The fight had already started over there.Â
Jagger really was a powerhouse, just like everyone said he’d be ten years into the apocalypse. After only a few rounds, Frank was already struggling to keep up.Â

Good thing Filip was there, throwing lightning into the mix–otherwise, Frank would’ve been toast.Â

But honestly, there was nothing they could do. The difference in their levels was just too huge. Jagger was already a level–six powered human.Â
The fact that Frank could even stay in the fight just showed how tough he really was.Â
As soon as the fight broke out, Emily fixed her gaze on the powered humans lurking behind Jagger.Â
Just as they were about to make a move, she shouted, and a wave of spirit–powered force washed over them.Â
Even Jagger, right in the thick of battle, got thrown off for a second. It was barely a blink, but his expression twisted in shock.Â
He could feel his strength fading fast. Where he’d been dominating Frank just moments ago, now he was suddenly on the defensive.Â
The powered humans behind him got hit with the same effect–their powers took a nosedive right after that brief daze.Â
Unlike Jagger, they just couldn’t handle the pressure. Their powers instantly tanked by two full levels.Â
Chiara held a transparent sphere high in her hands. A small hole had appeared at the top, and countless tiny sparks exploded out like fireworks, scattering in all directions.Â
Whenever those sparks touched the powered humans, their abilities skyrocketed and their fighting speed accelerated dramatically.Â
With one side getting weaker and the other growing stronger, the two teams that had been worlds apart in strength were now evenly matched.Â
Frank’s attacks were ruthless, every move lethal–Jagger was left desperately searching for an opening, but found none.Â
Chloe nodded, clearly pleased with what she saw.Â
She was honestly blown away. Just a few days apart, and the whole team had gotten so much stronger.Â
Guess we really do need to get out and toughen up more often,‘ Chloe thought.Â
Filip was growing at a freakish speed–even faster than Chloe expected. He was already a level–four powered human, and his lightning attacks could actually break through and hurt a level–six powerhouse like Jagger. That was seriously impressive.Â
‘Hell yes, this is just perfect, Chloe thought, her heart swelling with pride.Â
After more than ten minutes of fierce fighting, it was clear the gap between level–five and level–six powered humans was a world apart.Â
Slowly but surely, Blaze Squad started to lose ground.Â
But Jagger and his crew were gritting their teeth, taking some serious hits and barely holding it together.Â
Jagger glared, practically fuming. “What kind of messed–up team are you guys, anyway?”Â
He thought, They look like a bunch of old folks, cripples, and even got kids fighting alongside them–how the hell have they lasted half an hour against me?Â
‘And they still aren’t showing any signs of losing. Damn, what a pain in the ass. If I’d known they were this stubborn, I would’ve stayed the hell away.Â

Evan had already been kicked to the ground and was down for the count, but Mindy wasted no time–her vines shot out and dragged him behind the squad, hauling him out of the chaos.Â
Frank was bearing the full brunt of Jagger’s assault alone, sweat streaming down his face and body.Â
Behind him, Emily was continuously bombarding Jagger with spirit–powered attacks, driving his mind dangerously close to breaking.Â
“Look who’s talking! You’re supposed to be a level–six powered human, and if you get wrecked by a bunch of old folks, cripples, and kids like us, that’ll be the biggest joke in the apocalypse!” Emily said.Â
