While everyone else was desperately battling the Bloodvine in anger, Jagger was running around like crazy, his eyes glowing with excitement.Â
What was terrifying to others was a priceless treasure in Jagger’s eyes.Â
This was the stuff that could keep his wife alive, so he was determined to grab as much as he could.Â
He was totally absorbed in his work when he suddenly felt something clawing at his back. Annoyed, he threw a punch behind him without even turning around.Â
“Get lost. I’m working. Don’t mess with me,” Jagger grumbled.Â
Suddenly, his body stiffened. He turned his head just as a long Bloodvine aimed at the back of his neck, ready to strike.Â
Jagger reacted instantly. At the critical moment, he punched the Bloodvine with all his strength.Â
A deafening crack split the air as the Bloodvine shattered, blood gushing like a river from within.Â
He smiled. “This is a good one.”Â
With the blood from the last vine already drained, he hurriedly attached the tube to this fresh one.Â
William swung his sword with fierce momentum, cutting down any Bloodvine that dared to approach.Â
However, no matter how fast he was, he couldn’t fight off so many vines at once. Out of nowhere, four Bloodvines lashed out and coiled tightly around his arms and legs.Â
He lost his footing and was forcefully dragged in one direction, helpless to resist.Â
His sword was snatched right out of his hands.Â
Just when he thought he was done for, an ice sword suddenly appeared and sliced through the Bloodvine, freeing him.Â
Chloe stood by his side, swiftly slashing through the rest of the vines. “Are you okay?”Â
William shook his head, his face pale. “I’m fine, but this Bloodvine is a real pain.”Â
Chloe took a deep breath and said, “This Bloodvine isn’t high–level yet. It hasn’t fully developed its blood curse, but it’s ridiculously tough to kill.”Â
Her face darkened as she looked around. “You’ve probably noticed that whenever we cut the Bloodvine, the break seals up fast and then sprouts even more tendrils.”Â
“What do we do now?” William asked.Â
He glanced around and found that the vines had grown way more tendrils than before.Â
The ones Chloe cut were frozen, so they didn’t grow back.Â
Chloe didn’t answer. Instead, she shouted to everyone, “Fall back. NowÂ
pace andÂ
“Go,” she ordered. She summoned ice spikes from her spiritual space and hurled them straight at the thickest cluster of Bloodvine tendrils.Â

“If we want to take down the Bloodvine, we have to cut the mother vine first. Stop the tendrils from growing, then we can figure out our next move,” she said.Â
Chloe remembered how she’d handled Bloodvine in her previous life and focused all her powers into her hands.Â
A chill swept through the air.Â
The temperature plummeted from over 120 °F in a heartbeat.Â
Everyone felt a blast of cold wind, as if they were back in that bitter winter six months ago.Â
A thick layer of frost covered their eyebrows and hair.Â
‘Damn, it’s freezing,” one of them gasped.Â
Everyone wrapped their arms around themselves, shivering.Â
Once the frost settled, everyone glanced at the Bloodvines and saw that all of them were frozen in place, encased in a thick ayer of ice.Â
agger’s yelling snapped everyone out of their stunned silence. “Chloe, what are you doing? There’s no blood. My wife is going to starve.”Â
He was so frantic that he started stomping his feet. He completely forgot the stack of barrels behind him, already filled to he brim with blood.Â
Chloe rolled her eyes, annoyed. “The blood inside the Bloodvine is just frozen, not gone. Why are you making such a fuss?”Â
As she spoke, she swept all the Bloodvine into her spiritual space.Â
All this is for my wife, right?” Jagger blinked, looking hopeful.Â
Yeah, who else would I save it for if not your wife?” Chloe replied, rolling her eyes.Â
The whole mass of Bloodvine disappeared, leaving behind a heap of bones underneath.Â
Everyone in the supermarket ahead, who had been sweating, suddenly felt a cool breeze.Â
Nina, feeling confused, asked, “Babe, do you feel the temperature dropping?”Â
“Yeah, it’s been summer for months now. Guess it’s finally cooling down,” Peyton replied.Â
Hearing that, everyone realized the heat had eased up, and they were instantly overjoyed.Â
Someone’s eyes brimmed with tears. “Thank goodness. If this heat kept going, we’d either starve, dehydrate, or just bake toÂ
death”Â
Just then, a squad walked in from outside, led by a powered human grinning ear to ear. “Hey, stop napping, everyone I’ve got some awesome news for you”Â
Nina looked at their bare hands, puzzled. “Weren’t you guys out searching for supplies? You came back with nothing What good news could you possibly have?”Â
“Yeah, don’t tell me you found another supermarket Someone cracked that joke, and everyone turned to look at the squad that had just walked in, their expressions calm but their eyes full of expectationÂ

Their eyes, bright in the dim light, looked greedy.Â
Some people even stumbled over, grabbing at the squad members‘ clothes, desperate for answers. “Come on, did you find anything or not?”Â
The squad of a dozen people found themselves completely surrounded, as if speaking the wrong words might get them devoured on the spot.Â
The young man named Bob cleared his throat. “Uh, no, actually.”Â
Everyone looked ready to blow up, and before they could start cursing, Bob spoke up again. “When we went out looking for supplies, we checked a few supermarkets, but everything was gone.”Â
An old lady huffed, “That’s your so–called good news, huh? You’re just wasting my time.”Â
With that, she just flopped down on the ground, turned over, and went straight to sleep.Â
Everyone was starving after a day or two without food; even speaking more would tire them out.Â
“We didn’t find any supplies, but we saw the military,” Bob announced.Â
He put extra weight on those last two words, “the military“.Â
Hearing that, everyone jumped up at once, the air filled with heavy, ragged breaths. “Really?”Â
Bob nodded firmly, his eyes full of conviction. “It’s true. There are five or six hundred people, all coming from the east.”Â
Peyton scoffed, his face full of disbelief. “Do you know what you’re saying? The east is full of blood–sucking plants. I saw them drain over a thousand people into dried corpses in minutes.”Â
As Peyton spoke, the memory of that day flashed before his eyes. It only made the terror worse, and he couldn’t stop shaking.Â
Everyone knew the east belonged to the Bloodvine and that no one could possibly survive over there.Â
They felt like they’d been played for fools.Â
Someone rolled up his sleeves and punched Bob right in the eye.Â
Bob shot the guy a furious glare. “What’s wrong with you?”Â
He threw a punch right back, and the two of them started brawling on the spot.Â
Such fights happened daily; the people around were used to them. Now, only the sounds of their battle filled the airÂ
