Chapter 290 

Frank took a step forward, planting himself right next to the couple with an imposing presence. 

His smile carried a deeper meaning, but his eyes burned with vengeance. 

Frank stood beside them, just staring silently. His gaze alone was enough to make their hearts race.

Their hearts skipped a beat, remembering all the things they’d done. It was obvious Frank was here for payback. 

They tried to steady their nerves, putting on a calm front. “What do you want?” 

Nina slowly lifted her head, trying to look her best, but her hair was a tangled mess, and the sour smell of milk clinging to her was even more overpowering than sweat. 

Frank covered his nose and moved away from her. 

He didn’t say a word, making his distaste crystal clear. 

Nina had been pretending to be fragile and alluring to catch Frank’s eye, but the moment she met his look of utter disgust, she was stunned. 

All her life, Nina had been beautiful. Everyone wanted a piece of her. Even after the apocalypse, with most women gone, people still looked at her with hungry, greedy eyes. 

But Frank was the exception. It was like he wasn’t even a real man. He never gave her the time of day. 

Trying to seduce him again today, his reaction totally blindsided her, and her eyes stung with humiliation and hurt. 

Nina wondered, ‘Is Frank even a real man? Does he seriously not want a woman? No way Joan could survive after being hurt that badly. He can’t possibly be that heartless. 

‘Men are all the same, just thinking with what’s below the belt. There’s no way he could go this long without a woman and not crack. 

She scanned the crowd of survivors. Out of more than a hundred, barely a dozen were women, and most of them were so ugly or plain. They only survived because no one wanted them. Compared to them, Nina felt like a queen. 

With that thought, her confidence surged back. She pushed out her chest and put on her sweetest smile. 

Nina had always had a killer figure, and now, with her breasts full from breastfeeding, her curves were even more alluring 

Just seeing the way those filthy men were eyeing her, she knew exactly how irresistible she looked right now. 

Sure enough, Frank glanced at her, but quickly looked away. 

Nina’s eyes sparkled with smug satisfaction. 

Hmph, shameless pig, still pretending to be above it all. I bet he’s barely holding himself back from jumping me, she thought. 

Nina’s eyes gleamed with confidence, as if she already had Frank wrapped around her finger. 

Frank barely glanced at her before quickly looking away, feeling a chill of revulsion. He was just about to snap at them to get out when he caught Peyton watching him warily.

As soon as Peyton noticed Frank’s gaze, he stepped forward, putting himself between Nina and Frank. His posture was tense and ready for trouble. 

“What do you want?” Peyton demanded. 

He knew that look way too well. If he hadn’t kept his guard up every step of the way, he would’ve lost Nina ages ago. 

By now, it was pure instinct. As soon as someone looked at Nina, he’d jump in front of her to protect her. 

Frank froze for a second before he finally got what was going on. He glanced at Nina behind Peyton and let out a cold, mocking laugh. 

Frank sneered, “Heh, what do you think I want? A woman who’s been passed around by a thousand men, reeking worse than a zombie. You think everyone is as undiscriminating as you?” 

“You…” Nina choked out. Nina’s face darkened instantly, tears welling up in her eyes. She tugged at Peyton’s sleeve. “Honey…” 

Peyton gently wiped the tears from her face, speaking softly to comfort her. “Don’t worry, babe. There are plenty of soldiers around. Frank can’t just do whatever he wants. He is not above everyone else.” 

While they were talking, all the survivors had already piled into the trucks, and with the vehicles about to leave, Peyton and Nina started to freak out. 

They hurried over to one of the soldiers, practically groveling as they tried to get his attention. 

‘Sir, I’m a water–powered human. Where do we sit?” Peyton asked. 

The soldier stood ramrod straight, like a javelin, not even sparing them a glance. Soldiers only followed orders. Without a command from above, he wouldn’t budge. 

Seeing this, Peyton grabbed Nina and tried to get on the truck, but a soldier with a sniper rifle stepped in front of them, blocking their way. 

What the hell are you doing?” Peyton barked, clearly annoyed. 

‘I’m just as much a citizen as anyone else! Why can’t I get on?” Nina yelled. Her voice was sharp and mocking, and it was enough to wake the baby she’d just managed to get to sleep. 

The baby’s wail cut through the air, echoing all around. 

The survivors from the supermarket froze, their faces going pale as they glanced around in fear, worried the crying would attract zombies, 

One of the soldiers in a camo uniform strode over. 

“Sorry, we’re not here to rescue anyone. If you’re looking for a rescue team, just stay put and wait,” he said, his voice cold and indifferent. 

Peyton didn’t believe a word of it. 

“You’re all decked out in military gear, and now you say you’re not a rescue team? Who would ever buy that?” he demanded. 

James gave a sly grin, puffed hard on his cheap cigarette, and blew smoke right in Peyton’s face ‘Do I look like I owe you an explanation?” 

“You,” Peyton said. He was fuming, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Nina swung her hips seductively, tears welling up in her eyes as she gave James a pleading look. 

“Soldier, my husband and I are good, law–abiding citizens. Why won’t you take us with you?” she begged.

Without another word, she shoved the wailing baby into Peyton’s arms and practically launched herself at James. 

James was instantly assaulted by the sour stench of milk, instinctively stepping back several paces and shooting her a look of pure disgust. 

Nina was always the center of attention around men. She’d never been treated like this before. Today, she got totally brushed 

off. 

A shadow crossed Nina’s face, but she quickly bounced back, acting as if nothing happened. 

Sir, my husband is a water–powered human. Can’t you make an exception for us?” she pleaded. 

ames pinched his nose and stepped back. “Who did you say is a water–powered human?” 

His face was full of disbelief. 

seeing his reaction, Nina’s face lit up with excitement. She knew water–powered humans were a hot commodity, no matter where they went. 

But then she remembered she was just a regular person, totally dependent on Peyton to survive. She glanced at Peyton with 

• lear disgust. 

My husband… He is one of the best water–powered humans,” she stammered. 

ames gave Nina a once–over and let out a mocking laugh. “If your husband is such a big–shot water–powered human, how come you let yourself get so nasty?” 

Please, even if there were a hundred or a thousand water–powered humans, it still wouldn’t be worth messing with the Blaze Squad, James thought. 

While Nina was getting humiliated by James, the Base Truck was suddenly blocked by a family of six. 

Chloe hadn’t planned on getting out of the Base Truck. With Frank’s strength, he could easily crush any enemies, so she just relaxed inside, snacking away while Chiara handed her spicy snacks from time to time. 

Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the window. When Chloe looked over, she saw a big face pressed against the glass his expression plastered with envy and greed. 

The Base Truck’s windows were blacked out, making it nearly impossible to see inside from the outside. But if someone pressed their face right up against the glass, they might still catch a glimpse of what was happening inside.
