Feeling a bit parched from all the talking, Alfred paused and downed the cup of coffee on the table in one go. 

Then, he continued, “When you teach Chloe to fly the helicopter, make sure to sneak in a little hand–holding or maybe a casual kiss on the cheek. Just act like it’s all part of the lesson… 

“Hey! Why are you leaving? Come back here and listen to me.” 

Watching Noah bolt out of the room like he was running for his life, Alfred stomped his foot in frustration. 

“If only this kid was half as good at chasing girls as he is on the battlefield,” he muttered. 

Then, he grumbled, “He’s nothing like me at all.” 

Chloe was so distracted, her mind wandering, that she almost ran straight into Todd. 

“Ms. Yates, why’s your face all red?” Todd asked. 

Chloe quickly covered her cheeks. “Oh, really? Maybe it’s just hot today.” 

Then she hurried off. 

Over a patch of Grovenwich, dark clouds loomed, lightning flashed, and thunder roared. 

Against the clear blue sky all around, it looked totally out of place. 

Two figures zipped through the woods, quick and nimble. 

“Filip, hurry up! Let’s split up and trap that mutant snake!” Chiara shouted. Her face was glowing with excitement. 

This was her first time out hunting mutant beasts without any grown–ups around, and the thrill was just unreal. 

Even though Filip was with her, she still felt totally free. And yeah, they’d sneaked out without telling a soul. 

Filip’s brows furrowed, his tone sharp. “No way. You’re not leaving my sight, not even for a second” 

Chiara pouted, her lips sticking out. “Alright, alright. I won’t go anywhere, Geez, why are you so grump 

As soon as she finished speaking, they both felt a sudden chill, like a snake had its eyes locked on them. 

“Crap! We gotta get out of here!” Filip shouted. 

But it was already too late. 

The snake suddenly grew to ten times its original size and lunged at them like a bolt of lightning. Its jaws gaped wide, and with a flick of its tongue, it coiled its massive body around Chiara, trapping her in an instant 

Chiara screamed in fear. 

Her face went ghostly pale, but she didn’t hesitate. A razor–sharp dagger appeared in her hand, and she slashed it across the snake’s tongue. 

The tip of the snake’s tongue was severed, but that only made the beast even more furious

Chapter 314 

Its long, razor–sharp fangs were about to pierce right through Chiara’s chest.

She fell from the air, nearly knocked out cold. She didn’t even have time to wonder how the snake had suddenly grown ten 

times its size. 

Just as she tried to scramble away, those deadly fangs lunged straight at her. 

Chiara’s mind went completely blank. She could only squeeze her eyes shut, bracing herself for death. 

Then, she heard the dull, gut–wrenching sound of something sharp piercing flesh. 

When she opened her eyes, fat tears spilled down her cheeks, and her lips quivered with fear. 

Filip. Filip… Chiara whimpered. 

Filip’s back was skewered by the snake’s fangs, blood soaking him from head to toe. He kept coughing up blood, his mouth stained red. 

His eyes blazed crimson as he forced out a single word through gritted teeth. “Go…” 

Filip…” Chiara cried out. She tried to yank Filip out of those vicious fangs, but he pushed her away, desperate to protect her. 

‘Go. Just go…” Filip managed, barely able to speak. 

Filip unleashed his lightning, letting it surge through his whole body. He was determined to take the mutant snake down with him, whatever it cost. 

Lightning Explosion!” Filip shouted. 

Filip… Chiara cried out, her voice trembling with panic. 

Her emotions boiled over, and she spat out a mouthful of blood. Suddenly, a pair of crystal–clear wings burst from her back 

In a blur, she darted past the giant snake’s jaws and pulled Filip free. 

The snake’s angry sounds echoed through the woods, filling the air with menace. 

Its prey was right at its mouth but suddenly flew away. The giant snake whipped its tail at Chiara, furious, trying to smack her out of the sky. 

Luckily, Chiara didn’t fly in a straight line but zigzagged, darting left and right, hanging on by a thread. But the mutant snake was always right behind her, its attacks never letting up. 

Chloe just couldn’t focus on anything today. Her mind kept drifting. It felt like a bad omen was hanging over her. 

“Has everyone been notified about returning to Blaze Haven? Chloe asked 

Several powered humans in camo stood nearby, answering respectfully. “Yes, Ms Yates Everyone’s been notified. They should all be bark within a day‘ 

Just then, Linda burst into the room, looking frantic. 

“Linda, what’s wrong?” Chloe asked. 

Linda was out of breath, her eyes darting around the room like she was searching for something

Chapter 314 

“Chloe, did Filip and Chiara drop by to hang out with you?” she asked. 

“No, I haven’t seen them at all today,” Chloe replied.

Linda’s face went ghostly pale. “I… I haven’t seen them all day either. Last night, Chiara said she wanted to go hunting, but I told her no. 

Do you think something might have happened to them?” 

Chloe shot up from her seat, her voice sharp with alarm. “What?” 

One of the powered humans in camo suddenly remembered something and spoke up. “I saw Filip and Chiara playing near the main gate this morning while I was on patrol. 

“I even warned them not to go outside.” 

Linda was so scared she nearly fainted. 

Linda stammered, “What… What are we supposed to do? I’ve had a bad hunch for the whole day. Do you think something bad happened to them?” 

“Linda, don’t worry. I’ll take Gavin with me. We’ll go out to look for them,” Chloe said, trying to reassure her. 

With that, she went to find Gavin. 

Deep in the woods, Chloe became more and more stern. 

“Chloe, I can still catch Filip and Chiara’s scent up ahead. And there’s a snake’s smell mixed in. It feels like it’s deliberately luring them forward,” Gavin said. 

“Got it. Chloe replied. 

She could already see those pitch–black storm clouds looming in the distance. That might be where Filip and Chiara were. 

Gavin sniffed the air, his eyes narrowing in alert. 

“Wait. I smell blood. Filip’s blood,” Gavin said. 

Hearing that, Chloe darted ahead in a blur, quickly leaving Gavin behind. 

As soon as she got close, Chloe saw a colossal snake playing with Chiara like a cat with a mouse, forcing her back in midair until she had nowhere left to escape. 

Chiara was cradling Filip, who had already passed out in her arms. Blood was pouring from his chest, pooling on the ground and attracting a swarm of mutant beasts. 

“Oh no!” Chiara was out of energy and couldn’t dodge in time when the snake’s tail slammed her to the ground 

As she fell, she twisted midair and made herself a cushion for Filip, taking the hit for him. 

Blood burst from her mouth as she hit the ground. 

The giant snake looked like it was done toying with them. It opened its jaws, baring its fangs, ready to swallow them both whole. 

At the very last second, a sword of lightning burst forth from the sky. With one swift strike, it decapitated the mutant snake

in a flash. 

Chloe dropped in like a divine savior, radiating power and authority. 

Chiara finally breathed a sigh of relief. “Chloe… Chloe…” she whispered, her voice trembling. 

Then her eyes rolled back, and she passed out cold.

Blaze Haven was a total mess. Everyone was freaking out, and all the medics were huddled together, trying to help however they could. 

When Chloe rushed in with Filip and Chiara in her arms, Linda saw them and immediately fainted again. 

Chloe couldn’t care about anything else right now. 

Chiara’s injuries were minor, so she handed Chiara off to the medics and carried Filip straight to the emergency ward herself. 

“Hurry, stitch up his wounds!” Chloe instructed. Her hands were drenched in blood, and she could barely speak without her voice trembling. 

The two surgeons nearby looked troubled, clearly at a loss for what to do. 

“Ms. Yates, the snake’s fangs went straight through him. He’s beyond saving…” one of them said. 

But he stopped short when he caught the deadly glare in Chloe’s eyes and nearly wet himself on the spot. 

Stop talking and stitch him up! The rest is none of your concern!” Chloe snapped. 

Chloe stretched out her right hand, gathering all her abilities into her palm, then pressed it firmly against Filip’s wound. 

Filip’s skin had gone pitch black, and he was completely unconscious, and his heart was barely hanging on.
