Chapter 317 

Chloe’s voice echoed. “Attention, everyone! Attention, everyone!” 

When Clayton built the houses, he made sure every room was equipped with an intercom system for emergencies or important announcements. 

Chloe’s voice came through the intercom, clearly broadcast to every home. 

Everyone strained their ears, listening carefully. 

Chloe announced, “Attention, everyone! The locusts outside are swarming, covering the sky. Stay in your rooms, have your food ready, and do not go out. 

“All these locusts have mutated. They don’t just devour crops. They’ll eat human flesh and drink blood. Under no circumstances should you leave your rooms. 

“If you face an emergency, sound the alarm in your room. Someone will come to deliver supplies…” 

Before Chloe could finish speaking, a loud buzzing came through the speakers. The locusts had probably chewed through the wires. 

Panic swept through the crowd. An old man and his grandson huddled together on the bed, shivering in terror. 

With just the two of them–one elderly, one young–they moved slowly. The supermarket was packed, and they never got the chance to stock up. 

Now, all they had at home were two pieces of rye bread and a single bottle of water. They had no clue when the locusts would finally be gone. 

“Grandpa, should we try pressing the alarm?” the little boy asked, looking up at the alarm on the wall. 

The old man let out a deep sigh. The locusts had already chewed through the speaker wires. Would it even work now? 

Still, he decided to give it a shot, his hand trembling as he pressed the button. 

The alarm went off in the comms room, where a group of people were gathered, ready for action. 

Chloe was in charge, with Todd the computer genius, Frank, Emily, Jagger, Mindy, and the rest of the elite powered humans all standing by, waiting to jump into action. 

Everyone was suited up in protective armor, made by Frank from mutant beast hides. The gear was super flexible and could take a serious hit without breaking a sweat. 

“Room 178’s got an emergency,” Chloe announced over the comms. 

Frank grabbed his snake–skin bag, suited up in his armor, and headed out without hesitation. 

The armor was made from Level 5 mutant beast hides, while the locusts outside were mostly Level 1, maybe a few Level 3 at 

best. 

The real danger wasn’t their power, but the overwhelming swarm. 

As soon as Frank stepped outside, he became a walking locust giant–locusts swarmed over every inch of him, turning him into a moving mass of bugs. 

Chapter 317 

Their sharp, jagged teeth bit down hard on his armor, but didn’t even leave a mark. 

Frank wasn’t hurt at all, but walking was tough. He could barely move under all that weight.

The snake–skin bag on his back was crawling with locusts, too, and each step was painfully slow, taking him several seconds just to move forward. 

Frank finally reached Room 178 and knocked. “Supplies delivery!” 

Inside, the old man and his grandson, still shaking, glanced at each other, pure excitement lighting up their eyes. 

They scrambled out of bed and opened the door just a sliver. Frank blasted the locusts away with his powers and darted inside. 

The old man was hit with a mix of surprise and delight. 

L..I want to buy some supplies. I didn’t get much ready before,” he stammered. 

Frank didn’t bother saying anything. He just tossed a big sack onto the floor. Inside were some rye, water, and a few super- sized cabbages grown right here at the base. 

That was the only stuff the base gave out for free. 

As for the supplies they’d hoarded before the apocalypse, Chloe wasn’t about to hand any of that over. 

Even though they had a crazy amount of supplies, no one knew how long this apocalypse would drag on. 

All that stuff was the kind of thing people couldn’t replace. Every bit of people used, there would be less left. At the store, they cost a fortune. 

The old man was deeply grateful. 

“Thanks, Captain Hunter,” he said. 

Frank waved it off. “The base already issued each of you a protective beast–hide jacket.” 

The old man quickly and carefully took out two black beast–hide jackets from the cabinet, handling them like precious 

cargo. 

On top of them were two helmet–style respirators, almost like gas masks. 

“Yeah, make sure you wear these even at home. The locusts can’t penetrate them, but they might just save your lives,” Frank added. 

Meanwhile, Mindy and the others waited on standby, ready to bring supplies right to someone’s door if the alarm sounded. 

Thankfully, everyone was well prepared in advance. Only Room 178 needed help. The whole day went by without anyone else sounding the alarm. 

They sat in the comms room, watching the locusts fill the sky outside, lost in thought. 

“Chloe, when do you think this locust plague will finally be over?” someone asked. 

“Half a month,” Chloe replied, her tone calm and casual. 

She looked completely unfazed, like she was just commenting on the weather.

“Oh. What?” Emily replied automatically, her mind still catching up. Then it hit her. She suddenly sprang to her feet, eyes wide. 

“What did you say? Half a month?” she exclaimed. 

Mindy’s brows furrowed in concern. “So… What are we supposed to do?” 

Chloe laced her fingers behind her head, kicked her feet up, and leaned back in her lounge chair. 

“What do you mean, ‘what are we supposed to do? The heavens are dropping food right into our laps. You should be glad,” she said, sounding totally chill. 

“Dropping food right into our laps?” Emily echoed in confusion. 

Emily pressed her face right up against the window, coming face–to–face with a wall of locusts. 

“Oh my god! That scared me,” Emily yelped, jumping back in shock. 

Pouting, she grumbled, “I don’t see any food, just locusts everywhere…” 

Her eyes suddenly went wide. 

“Wait, I remember reading in some old books that locusts are packed with protein. Is that what you meant by ‘food?” Emily blurted out. 

Chloe snapped her fingers. 

“Bingo, you got it,” she grinned. 

Emily felt a rush of excitement. Suddenly, those palm–sized locusts didn’t freak her out anymore. In fact, they seemed almost inviting. 

“Then… Let’s hurry up and do this!” Emily urged. 

During the apocalypse, supplies were everything. 

To them, mutant beasts only came in two types, either the kind they could eat or the kind they couldn’t. 

Even though Blaze Haven never ran out of food and had already gotten production back up and running, they could never have too much to eat. 

They still had the whole base to feed. 

With food literally falling from the sky, there was no way they were turning it down. 

Chloe gave Emily a relaxed glance. “Why are you in such a hurry? We’ve still got half a month.” 

“Uh, well…” Emily hesitated, unsure what to say next. 

“So, how do we even catch the locusts?” Mindy added from the side. 

Sure, each locust wasn’t much on its own, but with millions swarming together, that’s a force to be reckoned with. 

Just then, Phantom Zombie floated in from outside, a few locusts still hanging onto him. With a flick of his hand, they disappeared instantly.

“Ready?” Chloe asked. 

Phantom Zombie nodded quietly in response. 

Everyone was totally lost. Emily blinked and asked, “Ready for what?” 

Chloe let out a playful chuckle and gave Emily a quick flick on the forehead. 

“Come on, what else? We’re getting the giant net ready to catch locusts,” she answered. 

With that, she headed out. 

“Where are you going?” Emily called after her. 

“To store the food, obviously, Chloe replied, not missing a beat. 

As soon as Chloe stepped outside, the locusts swarmed her like sharks smelling blood. They rushed her in a frenzy 

But every locust within 30 feet got flash–frozen and dropped to the ground. 

Mindy followed right behind, decked out in mutant beast armor and unfazed by the bugs. She blasted a torrent of fire, torching a massive cluster of locusts. 

It was like ripping a hole in the sky, but the opening was instantly swallowed up by another swarm
