Mindy was careful not to let her flames burn up the locusts, worried they’d end up inedible. She kept the fire under control. making sure they stayed good enough to eat. 

When dealing with swarms like these, her fire power was especially effective. 

Meanwhile, Emily was pouting in the comms room. As a spirit–powered, she absolutely hated dealing with these dense 

swarms. 

‘Do they really expect me to hit every single locust with a spirit attack? That’d take ages, Emily muttered inwardly. 

Suddenly, she spotted a gigantic locust flying overhead, impossible to miss among the swarm. 

The locust was bright golden all over, about the size of a huge room, maybe 1,100 square feet. Its blood–red eyes glared down at the earth like a predator. 

That was a Level 5 mutant locust, the undisputed ruler of all locusts. 

Emily’s eyes sparkled. “That’s it.” 

The huge golden locust let out a low, resonant sound, almost like it was calling for something. 

Its blood–red eyes were fixed on Chloe, who was at the front of the group. 

Suddenly, the locust felt its mind under attack. Its head went fuzzy, and its vision started to blur. 

Its call changed pitch, echoing strangely through the air. 

Out of nowhere, something wild happened. 

Suddenly, every locust that had been swarming the humans made a beeline for the city walls, slamming into them. 

Locusts crashed into the walls, one after another, totally fearless, like they were fighting their worst enemy. 

Chloe and the crew were stunned, but they shot Emily a thumbs–up from behind the glass in the comms room. Mindy, who was usually the queen of wiping out swarms, had to settle for third place in the locust–slaying rankings this time. 

Right after that, everyone in the comms room stepped out, decked out in their custom–made leather armor. 

As soon as they stepped outside, the locusts swarmed them. They all stuck close behind Chloe, fighting back as they went. Renee’s spiritual space ability had leveled up several times. She was no longer the inexperienced girl she once had been. She was wrapped up from head to toe, and whenever her foot touched a dead locust, with just a thought, whole batches were swept straight into her spiritual space. 

They worked together like a well–oiled machine. Everyone else took care of killing, while Renee handled the collection. 

Evan was built like a tank. He didn’t even bother with the special leather armor. Those mutant locusts couldn’t bite through his skin, not even leaving a mark. 

He shielded Renee like a mountain, immovable and steadfast at her side.

Seeing the scene, the powered humans holed up indoors started getting ideas of their own. 

Many dug through their belongings, grabbed the leather armor they’d been given earlier, and suited up. 

Some were hanging back and watching, while others were already itching to get out there.

Some of the attacking locusts smashed themselves against the walls, some got roasted, and most were wiped out by the high–level powered humans with their various abilities. 

The leftovers were pretty scattered, just enough for the lower–level powered humans to get a bit of hands–on experience. 

What started as a locust disaster ended up becoming a goldmine for everyone. 

Meanwhile, locusts swarmed across the globe, and not everyone was as fortunate as those in Blaze Haven. 

Every base was practically drowning in screams and desperate cries for help. 

Chloe led her crew out to the open field, where a massive net was already stretched up and standing tall. 

“This net’s made from mutant pig hide. It’s crazy tough, just right for catching locusts,” one of the team members said. 

Each net was locked tight onto a sturdy frame, kind of like a giant fish basket, which was long as hell, with a one–way entrance. Once the locusts got in, there was no getting out. 

Nobody really knew what was inside, but whatever it was, it drew in locusts by the swarm. They kept piling in, thrashing around inside, but no matter how hard they struggled, they just couldn’t get out. 

The net’s entrance was a perfect square, 30 feet on each side, and it was built as a one–way gate. 

Any locust that made it inside was trapped for good. 

Each net stretched about 1,000 feet, spread out across the ground, and every single one was stuffed full of locusts. 

“What are you staring at? Come on. Hurry up and start collecting! There are way too many locusts. Don’t let them wreck the nets I busted my ass making,” someone shouted. 

Everyone froze for a second, then rushed to get started. 

The folks hanging back and scooping up leftovers were all fresh–powered humans. They were still newbies, not exactly strong yet. 

But when it came to hard work, they were total pros. 

Seeing how things were going, they teamed up and hauled the nets away together. 

Mindy saw the chaos and rushed into a spacious hall, unleashing her fire ability to incinerate every last locust that had been 

hauled in.

“We were just trying to stay ahead of the locusts, so we moved all the crops from thousands of acres into the shelters before they could get hit,” someone replied. 

“And even if there’s still some room left in the shelters, they’re way too far from the factory. We’d get mobbed by locusts trying to haul stuff over, another chimed in. 

All eyes were on Mindy. 

In that massive, empty factory, everyone else was stuck doing grunt work. Mindy was the only high–level powered human there. 

It was pure instinct; whenever things got tough, people always turned to the strongest one to lead the way. 

Just then, Chloe walked in. 

Everyone’s attention shifted to her. 

Without a word, she strode over to Renee. 

“Take all the roasted locusts out of your spiritual space and hand them over. My space is way bigger. I can handle a lot more, Chloe said. 

“Also, everyone’s strong enough for heavy lifting, but hauling locusts is just too much. Go help out, Renee, so they can free up their hands for something else,” she added. 

Renee nodded in agreement.
