Narrow eyes nodded unconsciously, then quickly shook his head. 

He swallowed hard. “I just… I never thought someone would actually set up a base there.” 

Grim couldn’t hold back his curiosity and asked.

Grim said, “Everyone in our base must be pretty tough, right? Otherwise, how could they survive in a place like that?” 

Chloe thought for a moment. “We’ve got four sixth–level powered humans and more than twenty fifth–level ones. That’s actually quite a lot.” 

Everyone was dumbfounded. 

‘Seriously? That’s all?‘ Narrow eyes thought. 

He still refused to give up and pressed on, but Chloe’s final answer was what really crushed him. 

“So what about the other thousand people?” Narrow eyes asked. 

“They’re just ordinary people,” Chloe replied. 

“All of them?” Narrow eyes almost choked on his spit. 

Chloe suddenly realized something and added, “Wait, that’s not right. They’ve all drunk the mutagenic liquid–now everyone in the base is a powered human. There isn’t a single ordinary person left.” 

Just as everyone was starting to breathe a sigh of relief, Chloe dropped another bombshell. 

“Over nine hundred are first–level powered humans, and more than twenty are second–level…” Chloe continued. 

The more she spoke, the more everyone felt a cold dread settle in their hearts. 

They all felt like they’d just walked right into a disaster. 

“So, if you’re having second thoughts, it’s still not too late,” Chloe said. 

Grim gritted his teeth. “A real man doesn’t serve two masters. Since we’ve chosen you, we’re sticking with you.” 

He felt a bit embarrassed saying that, so he quickly tried to explain himself. 

“If our old base chief hadn’t pushed us to the brink, we never would’ve had to find another path,” Grim added. 

Chloe was honestly surprised. Everyone at Steel Base was a total monster, but this crew really didn’t fit in at all. 

No wonder they got squeezed out like that, Chloe thought. 

Itzel edged closer, her voice barely above a whisper. “Um… if you’re out here, does that mean the folks back at the base might be in danger?” 

Chloe immediately caught on to what Itzel was getting at. 

These people really believed the whole base was propped up by her alone. If she left and the base got attacked, those freshly powered humans wouldn’t stand a chance; they’d be doomed.

“They won’t die, Chloe said. 

“Oh.” Itzel still had a bunch of questions, but she just kept quiet.

Anyway, Chloe was crazy strong. From now on, they just had to stick with her and do their best for the base. 

Everyone was weighed down with heavy hearts, but it wasn’t until they actually set foot in Blaze Haven that they truly understood what it meant to have their imagination limited by their own perspective. 

After everyone had eaten their fill, they set off toward the east. 

With more hands to help, things were way easier. They split up and stripped every city bare as they passed through. 

Not even counting all the supplies they’d scavenged before, just what they’d found in the past few days was enough to keep a million people living comfortably for ten years. 

Of course, it was all daily necessities, no food. 

They didn’t bother tangling with any of the tough zombies or mutant beasts. They just grabbed what they needed and moved on, making the whole trip pretty chill. 

“Chief, looks like there’s a small base up ahead,” Narrow eyes said, switching to calling her “Chief” like it was nothing. 

Everyone else followed suit, calling her “chief too. 

“This base looks pretty makeshift, looks like they just threw up some fences around a few factory buildings,” Narrow eyes added. 

Rebecca’s gentle voice came from behind. “I’ll go knock.” 

But the skinny guy next to her stopped her. “Hold on, let’s wait for the chief’s orders.” 

Chloe glanced up at the sky. It was almost dusk, definitely not the best time to hit the road. 

“Phantom Zombie, go scope out the place and see what’s up inside,” Chloe said. 

As soon as Chloe finished speaking, a girl in a white dress appeared out of nowhere right in the middle of the group, making everyone jump. 

“Holy crap!” someone gasped. 

“Where did she come from?” another asked in shock. 

Everyone jumped into defensive mode, poised to strike. 

Phantom Zombie didn’t even bother looking at them. “There are over a hundred men and a dozen women inside…” 

“Alright, that’s enough, Chloe cut her off. 

Chloe didn’t need to ask any more; she could already guess what was going on in there. Shaking her head, she decided it wa best to stay out 

Honestly, I’m not in the mood for a bloodbath. Better just keep my distance, Chloe thought. 

Narrow eyes finally worked up the nerve to ask, ‘C–Chief, who is she?”

“Seventh–level Zombie King,” Chloe said. 

That answer was so casual that everyone nearly lost it. 

Itzel’s face went pale, her voice shaking. “A… a Zombie King?” 

Her eyes were about to spill over. ‘Is this for real?‘ she thought. 

“Don’t be scared. The Zombie King is one of us here at Blaze Haven. She won’t hurt you,” Chloe said calmly. 

Everyone drew in a cold breath. 

“Wait, you can actually tame a Zombie King?” Narrow eyes stammered, totally mind–blown. 

Grim gave a thumbs–up. “Boss is boss, that’s awesome!”

Everyone had been on edge just moments ago, but now they finally felt like they had someone powerful backing them up. 

If someone could actually tame a Zombie King, that was definitely a total badass. 

Night was falling. 

They found a spot away from the base gates, right up against the wall, and set up camp there. 

Priscilla jumped right in, bustling around to get dinner ready, clearly enjoying herself. 

With all the ingredients Chloe had given her, Priscilla finally felt like she could prove her worth. 

She whipped up some oatmeal, sautéed zucchini, and a few light cold dishes. 

It was way too hot for anything greasy or spicy, so she kept things simple and refreshing, but it still tasted amazing. 

Chloe loved it. 

To celebrate, she rewarded everyone with a big bottle of ice–cold Coke. 

“Whoa, Boss, do you have some kind of bottomless bag or what? How do you always have everything? Seriously, with you around, we’re set for food and drinks!” Narrow eyes laughed. 

Chloe was speechless. 

There’s a shower in my ride. Go clean yourselves up and then get some rest,” Chloe said. 

“A shower? You mean we can actually take a shower?” Narrow eyes blurted out, 

Chloe shot him a look. “Seriously? What else is a shower for, eating? Get moving!” 

By now, nobody was scared of Chloe anymore; in fact, everyone felt super comfortable around her, almost like she was family. 

Itzel hesitated. “Maybe we should skip it… That water’s probably better off saved for drinking” 

Even though she was desperate for a shower. 

Chloe shot her a look. “It’s just plain river water.”

“Wait, but isn’t there a zombie virus in the water?” Itzel asked, still sounding worried. 

I’m telling you to shower, not drink the stuff!” Chloe said, rolling her eyes. 

That was when it finally clicked for everyone.

They’d always believed the water was contaminated with zombie virus, so they never dared to go near it, let alone take a shower. Thinking back now, they felt pretty stupid. 

They scrambled to the base vehicle for a shower, and soon cries of surprise echoed from inside. 

Chloe shook her head, speechless. 

Late that night, Chloe was sleeping alone in the base vehicle when her eyes snapped open. She got out to investigate. 

“What the hell is going on?” she asked. 

Grim was stomping his feet, frantic. “Chief, Itzel’s gone!” 

“She got up in the middle of the night to pee, but it’s been half an hour, and she’s still not back,” Grim said, his voice shaky. 

“I just searched all over for her, but couldn’t find her anywhere,” he added. 

Chloe frowned slightly, then summoned Phantom Zombie and gave her a command. 

“Go find Itzel, the girl who smiled at you earlier today,” Chloe instructed. 

Just a second later, Phantom Zombie reported, “She’s inside the base. Someone knocked her out.”
