The apocalypse hit right at midnight on Christmas Eve, so almost everyone was stuck at home. Then the zombies broke out, and a blizzard sealed off the city.

Ninetynine percent of people died in their own homes.

The malls and supermarkets were practically empty, so they were still packed with supplies.

Chloe gripped the map she’d marked up earlier, hitting each location one by one as she searched for supplies.

In the sprawling downtown of Hevenseale, only a single figure could be seen weaving through the empty streets.

She was wrapped in a loose gray stealth outfit, with a baseball cap pulled low and a mask covering her mouth, bundled up from head to toe.

Even if any survivors were still conscious, there was no way they’d get a good look at her face.

As she made her way through the city, Chloe checked off each location, hitting the jewelry stores first to make her spiritual space bigger.

Within just an hour, every piece from every jewelry shop in Hevenseale had been swept into her spiritual space.

The massive building inside her spiritual space had doubled in size, and the ground paved with white cobblestones had grown to the size of a small town.

Chloe navigated through the maze of abandoned vehicles, sweeping every sturdy offroad ride she spotted straight into her spiritual space.

In no time, her spiritual space now held over a dozen offroad vehicles and several small trucks.

Next, she stormed the department stores and supermarkets.

She didn’t spare a glance at what was on the shelves. She just reached out, tapped them, and zapped whole racks straight into her spiritual space.

Chloe was so wiped out that she could barely breathe. When running was out of the question, she just trudged on; no way she was stopping now.

This was her last massive supply run. After this, she’d be set for the rest of the apocalypse.

She swept through every department store in Westport, liquor shop, wholesale market, baby formula store, pharmacy, and even the flour and oil shops.

If she saw it, she zapped it straight into her spiritual space, not leaving’a single thing behind.

Only a windpowered human like Chloe could pull this off, ten hours flat, and she’d stripped the whole downtown Hevenseale bare,

She checked her watch; it was only three in the afternoon, and she still had plenty of time.

With tons of room left in her spiritual space, she headed straight for the home goods mall, sweeping up everything from bedding and beds to sofas.

She didn’t miss a single restaurant, either; pots, pans, utensils, and all the food were gone in a flash.

She also grabbed weapons and medicine.

She cleaned out the meds from several hospitals and even scored some guns at the police station.

By eight that night, Chloe slumped down in a coffee shop, gulping in air.

A whole day and night of nonstop scavenging had Chloe running on fumes; she could barely keep going.

By this point, she’d pretty much emptied out the entire downtown Hevenscale.

After just ten minutes of rest and absorbing a few cores, Chloe felt like she’d been hit with a shot of pure adrenaline.

Next up were the fancy apartment complexes. The place was eerily quiet, but everywhere you looked, the whole compound was packed with zombies.

Chloe had just pried open the first front door and was about to stash some supplies when she suddenly met a pair of sharp eyes staring right at her.

Both of them jumped in surprise.

The middleaged man was tall and burly, gripping a fire axe. There wasn’t a hint of contempt in his eyes; if anything, he was totally on guard as he sized up the petite intruder.

Chloe took a step back, giving an awkward smile. Uh, I didn’t mean to break in, seriously. Do you believe me?”

The guy looked rough as hell, sporting a wild beard and eyes wide and fierce, definitely not someone one would want to mess with.

But then, he said, I believe you.”

Chloe had been ready to defend herself, but his unexpected words caught her completely off guard; she honestly didn’t know what to say next.

After an awkward silence, she managed a sheepish smile. Uh, well, that’s good. I’ll just leave now.”

She turned to go, but the moment she spun around, she nearly bumped right into the guy; he was suddenly standing right behind her.

Chloe blinked. What are you doing?”

I think you’re really impressive. I want to stick with you,” he replied.

Chloe rolled her eyes. Don’t follow me. There’s a temporary base on the north side of the city. Head over there.”

I’m a strengthpowered human. I won’t slow you down,he insisted.

Chloe didn’t even give him a chance to say another word. She unleashed her wind powers and vanished down the corridor in a flash.

Damn, she’s fast.” The guy’s face was full of amazement, and now he was even more determined to stick with her.

A temporary base on the north side of the city? Guess I’ll head over and check it out, he thought.

After that whole episode with the burly guy, Chloe got way more cautious about picking locks.

Lesson learned. If the place is full of corpses, I can totally justify sneaking in and, well, not stealing, just borrowing some

stuff, she told herself.

But if there were any living people around, she figured, Yeah, better not mess with it. Not worth the trouble.’

On her way out, Chloe kept scanning the area, making sure she hadn’t missed anything that might’ve slipped through the

No surprise, she ended up spotting a few fivestar hotels she’d skipped before; their kitchens were loaded with premium ingredients and supplies.

After a long, exhausting haul, Chloe finally made it back to her temporary hideout around ten at night.

Emily had been awake for ages, shivering under the covers, her eyes darting around in fear.

When she heard something outside, she clutched her machete like her life depended on it. But the second she realized it was Chloe, her whole face lit up; her eyes sparkled with excitement and relief.

The moment Chloe walked in, Emily threw herself into her arms, sobbing. Where did you go?”

What’s wrong?Chloe asked.

After fighting all day and night, Chloe looked totally wiped out; she really needed to crash and catch up on some sleep.

I thought you ditched me. I was so freaked out,Emily sobbed, clinging to her.

Chloe gently patted Emily’s back. You’re my teammate. Unless you stab me in the back, I’d never ditch you.”

She gently nudged Emily aside, yawning as she shuffled off toward the back. I haven’t slept in ages. I need to get some rest. The zombies in the other room will be up in about an hour. Can you handle them?”

Then she walked into the bedroom, flopped onto the bed, and crashed out, snoring away.

Chloe slept like the dead, and when she finally woke up, the sun was already high. It turned out it was ten in the morning.

The air was thick with the mouthwatering aroma of food.

She pushed open the bedroom door and stepped out.

Emily was bustling around in the kitchen, and the table was already set with three dishes and a soup.

They looked delicious.

The soup was milkywhite and rich, packed with fresh corn and carrots.

It looked and smelled so good that Chloe’s mouth was watering just looking at it.

You’re up? Come on, hurry and eat. You must be starving, right?Emily called out.

She set the last dish on the table and scooped out two plates of pasta.

Emily couldn’t help but smile as she watched Chloe wolf down her food.

Guess where all this food came from?Emily asked, grinning.

Before 12 AM, all the zombies and mutant plants can’t move at all,Chloe replied.

Emily pouted, Figures, you’re always the clever one.”

Then she leaned in close and whispered something in Chloe’s car.

After

you fell asleep last night, I saw that all the zombies and mutated beasts outside were knocked out cold. So I locked the door and headed downstairs. Guess what I found?Emily whispered.

Seeing Chloe help herself to another plate of pasta, munching on a rib, Emily kept smiling as she continued.

I remembered there was a convenience store in the alley up north, so I ran over, kicked the door open, and damn, it was so packed, I almost got dazzled, she exclaimed.

With that, Emily practically dragged Chloe off, bouncing with excitement to show her all the loot she’d scored today.

Chloe could only watch in silent misery as the big pot of soup got farther and farther away, her eyes full of pitiful longing.

Then Emily threw open the door to the guest room.

Did it blow your mind?Emily exclaimed, grinning from ear to ear.

The room was stuffed to the brim with supplies, mostly bags of snacks, fifty or sixty boxes of sandwiches, a dozen boxes of pasta, plus bread, and a bunch of other goodies.

There was also a small stash of fresh ingredients.
