Chapter 59 

EMS youchers 

“Attention, survivors. This is the base rescue team. We’re getting ready to evacuate Hevenscale. You’ve got ten minutes to grab your stuff and get downstairs, no second chances. If you’re late, we’re gone,” the loudspeaker blared. 

The loudspeaker kept blasting the warning, while some folks headed upstairs to deal with the zombies. 

A drone with a loudspeaker zipped through every floor, making sure every survivor got the message loud and clear. 

The survivors broke down in tears, holding their heads as the reality hit them. 

“I knew the government wouldn’t abandon us. I finally survived long enough for the rescue team to arrive,” someone cried 

out. 

“Hurry up, everyone. You’ve only got ten minutes. Get downstairs now,” the voice on the loudspeaker kept repeating. 

Survivors from the lower floors, mostly residents, came downstairs loaded down with bags and suitcases, some even dragging furniture along. 

Chloe and her two companions hid behind a car, kept shaking their heads, speechless at the sight. 

There were only a dozen military trucks, packed to the brim with people. No way there’s room for all that junk. 

The man in the lead moved like lightning, reaching the trucks first. Just as he was about to climb aboard, he got stopped. 

A powered human, gripping a sniper rifle with a stone–cold face, said, “Hand over your supplies.” 

The man whipped around angrily. “This is my stuff. Why should I?” 

The powered human with the sniper rifle gave a mocking laugh. “Because I’ve got this gun.” 

Just then, a guy decked out in full combat gear jumped down from one of the trucks up front and taunted them with a smirk. 

“Hand over your stuff, and you can come with us. Otherwise, beat it,” the man sneered. 

The man glared furiously at the guy, and by now a crowd of survivors had rushed over, overhearing everything. Everyone was red–faced with rage. 

“Aren’t you supposed to be the official rescue team? Why are you bleeding us dry?” one of the survivors yelled. 

An old lady threw her blanket to the ground and started cursing them out, absolutely furious. 

“We’ve paid taxes all these years, and now it’s all gone? You-” the old lady shouted. 

Bang. The gunshot echoed, and the old lady collapsed in a pool of blood. 

The black muzzle was instantly trained on the newcomers, and the heavily armed man’s lips curled into a dangerous smirk. 

“Who told you we’re the military? We’re just a powered human squad. If you want out with us, hand over your supplies. No supplies? Then scram,” the armed man sneered. 

“And don’t even think about bringing anything but supplies,” he added. 

Behind a semi–trailer, Chloe turned to Frank and asked, “What do you think?” 

Frank thought it over for a moment. “I think they’re just a regular powered human squad. 

Chapter 59 

56 vouchers 

“Somehow, they got their hands on guns, ammo, and a bunch of military trucks. But trust me. They’re definitely not the good guys.” 

Emily whispered, “Should we go with them?” 

Frank and Emily both looked at Chloe, waiting for her to make the call. 

“We may be strong, but we’re seriously outnumbered. With all those zombies swarming the city, there’s no way the three of us can make it out alive on our own,” Chloe said grimly. 

“Are we seriously going to give up our supplies and tag along with them?” Emily whispered. 

Frank took off his backpack. “I’ve still got plenty of supplies here. Should be enough for the three of us to join them.” 

Chloe shook her head and said to Frank, “Go negotiate with them. Offer half our supplies so they’ll let us follow in our own 

car.” 

“Emily, let’s go find a car,” Chloe said. 

They exchanged a quick glance, then took off toward the entrance of a secluded alleyway, ready to hunt for a car. 

Five minutes had already passed, and more than a dozen buses showed up in waves, most of them already filled with 

survivors. 

Anyone with supplies had no choice but to surrender them, while those who had nothing still got a spot on the bus.
