Rosalie pointed right at Chloe’s forehead and started yelling insults; gone was the pitiful look from before.

She’s just a stuckup princess with a major attitude problem, all boobs and no brains, all she does is chase after guys, and her grades are a disaster. Tell me, how am I any worse than her?Rosalie said.

Frank didn’t get mad. Instead, he shot Chloe a puzzled look, wondering if he was hearing things.

Frank thought, totally thrown off, Princess complex? All boobs and no brains? Always chasing after guys?

Wait, are we seriously talking about the same person?‘

Rosalie kept shouting, Back in the day, her mom couldn’t hold a candle to mine, and now she’s even more of a loser compared to me.”

She was getting more and more outrageous, so Sam finally slapped a hand over her mouth and dragged her away before she could embarrass herself any further.

Chloe kept her mouth shut, just standing there like a bystander, cold, detached, and ignoring it all.

Honestly, Rosalie had a point. In her previous life, Chloe really was a fool. If she hadn’t squandered her life away, she wouldn’t be the person she is today.

Finally, the woman whose pasta had been snatched earlier spoke up, her Hevenseale accent thick and unmistakable.

She said, Kiddo, so these really are your family? You’ve got a ton of food in that backpack; why not share some with your folks?

Man, times really have changed. Young people these days will do anything for a bite to eat, don’t even care about their own blood anymore.”

Anyone with eyes could tell they were family.

To everyone else, Chloe was just some woman clinging to Frank, trading her body for a meal.

People shot her looks full of contempt, but none of them could bring themselves to look away from the bulging backpack in Frank’s arms.

Once the first accusation landed, the rest followed like dominoes. People switched sides in a heartbeat; the same folks who’d just been sticking up for Chloe now turned on her, all eager to point fingers and blame her for everything.

The thing was, everyone’s eyes were glued to that bulging backpack, and you could practically feel the jealousy and spite hanging thick in the air.

When nobody had enough to eat, anyone with extra food instantly became the bullseye for everyone’s anger, the one they all wanted to tear down.

Pretty face, but such a selfish heart. They’re your family, you know?someone called out.

Yeah, seriously. Young people these days are getting more and more heartless, another person chimed in.

Chloe smirked and unzipped her backpack, opening it up for everyone to see. She said, It’s not that I don’t want to share; there’s just no food in here at all.”

She pulled the zipper all the way down, and inside, there were only clothes, not a single bite to eat.

Chloe knew how nasty people could get with their words, so she’d already made sure to stash only clothes in her spiritual

space, just in case things got ugly.

When everyone saw nothing but a few dirty clothes inside, they all shut up real quick.

Even the folks lurking in the shadows just sneered and quietly closed their eyes, pretending to rest.

Hah, thought she was some big shot. Turns out she’s just another wannabe with nothing to her name, one of them thought.

Kiera muttered and cursed under her breath, but finally shut her mouth.

You little brat, why didn’t you say there was no food earlier? Made me waste all that energy for nothing,Kiera snapped.

Chloe gave her an innocent look and said, I told you, but you didn’t believe me. Whose fault is that?”

Right then, the bus started rocking and jerking all over the place, and with a sudden burst of speed, people went flying everywhere.

The ones paying attention spotted a bunch of zombies scrambling up onto the roof. Suddenly, a zombie’s head dropped down from above, staring right into the window at everyone inside.

Its face was a nasty bluishpurple, eyes a creepy graywhite, and when it opened its mouth, sharp teeth glistened as slimy goo dripped out.

The people sitting by the window nearly pissed themselves in terror.

Ahh! Zombies. Help,someone screamed.

The bus suddenly lurched forward, tossing most of the zombies off the windows. But a few of the tougher ones clung on tight, their razorsharp claws punching straight through the metal roof, refusing to let go.

While everyone was screaming in chaos, there was a sharp crack as a bluishgray fist punched through the glass, shattering it.

The first zombie leapt inside, grabbed the nearest person, and sank its teeth straight into her neck.

Screams mixed with the wet crunch of zombie jaws, turning the bus into a living nightmare. The sniper up front jumped up. gun at the ready, and started firing.

But with people packed in tight and chaos everywhere, he couldn’t get a clear shot. The bullets missed the zombiesheads; without a headshot, there was no way to take them down.

Kiera clung to Niko, both of them trembling with fear. The little brat who’d been acting all high and mighty just seconds ago was now wailing at the top of his lungs.

Sam was closest to Chloe. He reached out, trying to yank her over to use as a human shield, but ran right into her icy stare, like she could read his mind and saw straight through him.

A chill shot through him. Her eyes were so cold, it was like she was looking at a dead man already, and honestly, it gave him the creeps way worse than any zombie out there.

Another sharp crack rang out, the window right next to Emily shattered, and she was sitting just inches away.

As the glass broke, before the bluishpurple fist could even pull back, Frank moved in a flash. He grabbed it and broke the leveltwo zombie’s wrist clean off.

Tendons tore, and almost black blood oozed out, making everyone’s skin crawl.

Black blood splattered all over Emily and Chloe, and both of them instinctively jumped back.

The next moment, the zombie’s creepy head hung down, but before it could crawl inside, Frank smashed its skull with a spiked club, splattering brain matter everywhere.

Frank’s quick takedown lit a fire under everyone. The crowd snatched up their weapons, steeling themselves for battle as they prepared to fight back.

The bus kept barreling forward, the driver’s hands shaking so badly he could barely hold the wheel. Windows were shattering right next to him, and if it weren’t for the two snipers watching his back, he would’ve been zombie chow by now.

After what felt like an eternity, half an hour of pure chaos, the last of the zombies were finally cleared out of the bus.

But just as everyone was catching their breath, the bus suddenly ground to a halt.

Why are we stopping? Don’t stop now, someone yelled, sounding panicked.

Just then, two more powered humans, guns in hand, hopped on the bus and called out to the other two.

Mr. Quinn sent us to switch out with you,one of them said.

The snipers switched shifts, and the bus started up again.

You could tell these guys were bad news just by looking at them, shifty eyes, sneaky faces. They just went ahead and rummaged through people’s bags like they owned the place.

They grabbed a couple of cookies and started eating without a care, right in front of everyone.

That’s my only food. How can you just take it?the woman yelled, trying to snatch it back. One of the guys didn’t even flinch; he just pulled the trigger and dropped her on the spot.

Then he swung the black muzzle of his gun toward the crowd, grinning wickedly.

Anyone else got food? Hand it over, right now. Listen up, hoarding food’ll get you in serious trouble,he said.

Everyone stared at the two bandits in terror, nobody daring to make a sound.

Rosalie, quick to notice, caught sight of Vanessa looking completely wiped out behind the powered humans. She started crying pitifully, tears streaming down her face, but was too scared to go up to her.

Sam saw her, too. Her clothes were all messed up, her hair a total wreck, and there were obvious bruises and marks on her neck, some fresh, some old, all left by someone’s mouth.

Anyone could see right away what kind of shame she’d just been put through.

Sam’s face went dark, his fists clenched so hard his knuckles turned white, but he just didn’t have it in him to go up against those two powered thugs.
