Chapter 68 

The ice was buried under a thick layer of snow, and as Chloe stepped forward, the snow swallowed up her calves.

Nearly every car had a dozen survivors climbing out, while powered humans lined up on both sides, guns in hand, keeping 

the crowd in check. 

As they passed a black RV, the door swung open just as Frank was being ushered inside. Chloe stole a quick look at the lavish 

interior. 

A wave of hot air rushed out before the door slammed shut. One of the powered humans behind them snapped. “Hurry up. What are you dragging your feet for?” 

Chloe and Emily picked up the pace, not daring to linger. 

Just then, Emily’s voice echoed in Chloe’s mind, sent through their spiritual link. 

“Chloe, that luxury RV is awesome. Should we try to steal it?” Emily asked. 

Chloe turned to see Emily’s eyes sparkling with mischief, feeling utterly speechless. 

When did this girl change so much? She used to be timid as a mouse, screaming whenever she saw a zombie, and now she’s all about stealing and fighting like it’s no big deal,‘ Chloe thought. 

But guess they were thinking the same thing. 

That black luxury RV was on a whole other level compared to the regular ones. You could tell right away it had been reinforced by a metal–powered human. 

Just looking at it, Chloe could tell it would roll right over a horde of Level 1 zombies and come out without so much as a scratch. 

Normal cars could run over zombies, too, but they’d end up all scraped and battered. 

And the tires were at risk of blowing out. 

But with that tricked–out RV, none of those worries even crossed her mind. 

She had a bunch of vehicles stashed away in her spiritual space, but honestly none of them held a candle to this beast. 

As they kept moving, Chloe gave a subtle nod, quietly agreeing with Emily’s idea. 

Still, now wasn’t the right moment to make a move, 

Soon enough, everyone made it to the very front, 

They found themselves at a bridge crossing the river. It wasn’t that long, but the whole thing was covered in massive boulders; no matter how high the chassis, not a single vehicle could get through. 

Up ahead, plenty of people were already busy hauling rocks, while powered humans stood watch. Anyone who started slacking off got dragged over for a beating, no questions asked. 

“Move it. Keep dragging your feet, and I’ll blow your brains out,” a powered human shouted. 

Still, for all their threats, the powered humans didn’t dare shed blood for no reason. 

Even with silencers on their guns, killing someone meant blood, and that smell was sure to attract nearby zombies.

Chapter 68 

Chloe and Emily were powered humans, way stronger than normal people, so hauling those rocks was no trouble at all, they barely broke a sweat. 

“Chloe, did you notice something?” Emily asked. 

Emily noticed Chloe’s furrowed brow; she rarely saw her like this. 

As they moved a big rock together, Chloe quietly said, “It’s way too quiet around here.” 

In the apocalypse, more than 80% of the population was either dead or had turned into zombies. They were on the outskirts of Hevenscale, one of the new top–tier cities. 

With over ten million people packed into this place, even if the highway was still a ways off, there’s no way there wouldn’t be any zombies at all. 

Something’s definitely off. 

Emily seemed to sense how serious things were getting, and she started to get nervous. 

“What should we do? Should we make a run for it?” Emily asked. 

They were way stronger than most powered humans, so if they really wanted to bail, they could probably pull it off. 

Chloe didn’t say a word, her expression growing more and more serious. 

Her heart was pounding like crazy, but all she could do now was wait and see what happened. 

Behind them was Hevenseale, already overrun by mutant beasts and zombies; going back was out of the question. 

“Keep your guard up and be ready to bolt at any second,” Chloe said quietly. 

Just as Chloe finished speaking, an armed powered human came over and blocked their path. 

“Which one of you is Chloe?” he said. 

Chloe and Emily exchanged a quick look, then Chloe answered calmly, “That’s me.” 

He looked her over like she was up for sale. He said, “Come with me. Mr. Quinn wants to see you.” 

Emily immediately stepped in front of Chloe and asked, “I’m her sister. Can I go with her?” 

The powered human looked annoyed and shot her a fierce glare. He said, “You think just anyone can get into Mr. Quinn’s 

car? Get lost.” 

Emily was about to snap back, but when she caught Chloe’s look telling her to chill, she just huffed and went back to hauling rocks. 

As they reached the luxury RV, Chloe spoke up, her voice calm and a little distant. 

“So, what does Mr. Quinn want with me?” Chloe asked, keeping her guard up. 

Her face was covered in grime, and her clothes were stained with zombie blood; no way she’d catch anyone’s eye looking like 

this. 

‘Is it Frank? Did he rat me out about my powers?‘ Chloe wondered. 

The powered human gave her a leering look, his voice half mocking, half trying to butter her up. 

“You’ve got a sweet voice, and those eves? Bet you’re a knockout under all that grime,” he said.

Chloe’s heart did a double–take. She suddenly locked eyes with Vanessa, who was watching from a bus about 60 feet away. and instantly got what was going on. 

Chloe’s eyes narrowed under her hat, murder flashing in them for a split second before she hid it away. 

The door to the black luxury RV creaked open, and a wave of warm air washed over Chloe from inside. 

The powered human next to her visibly relaxed, gazing longingly into the cozy interior. 

Chloe was ushered inside. 

The inside was decked out in pure luxury, small, but with everything you could need, done up like a high–end penthouse. 

Frank was sitting there, and when he spotted Chloe, he looked honestly shocked. 

Chloe gave a subtle shake of her head, and Frank instantly acted as if he’d never seen her before. 

“Mr. Quinn, Chloe’s here,” the powered human said. 

A man in a puffy down jacket turned around. His face was round and pudgy, his eyes narrowed to slits, and his complexion was ghostly pale, like he’d been drained dry from too much debauchery. 

But the moment he laid eyes on Chloe, the excitement in his gaze fizzled out. He said, “Seriously? This is it? You brought me this?” 

Gary was obviously let down by Chloe’s looks. 

Suddenly, a girl stepped out from the side door, looking a bit like Chloe. 

She was wearing pink pajamas, her stunning face all smiles. 

She flopped bonelessly into Gary’s arms, her voice soft and flirty. 

“Mr. Quinn, this is my sister. She’s a rare beauty, you won’t find another like her,” she said. 

Gary pulled Rosalie into his arms, grinning as he gazed at the beauty in his embrace, pinching her chin. 

“If you dare lie to me, I’ll chop you up and toss you to the zombies,” he said with a sneer. 

Rosalie shrank back a little, nodding sweetly. She said, “No way, Mr. Quinn, wouldn’t dare lie to you.” 

Gary gave Chloe a look of disgust and said, “Go wash up.” 

Chloe just stood her ground, unmoving. Rosalie shot her a venomous glare. 

“Didn’t you hear what Mr. Quinn said? Go clean yourself up already,” Rosalie said. 

Chloe suddenly let out a laugh. She said, “Rosalie, so you actually admit I’m better looking than you?” 

She folded her arms and teased, “Aren’t you scared I’ll take your place? Who knows, maybe you’ll be the one getting chopped 

and tossed to the zombies.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” Rosalie stammered, her voice shaking. 

Rosalie was clearly scared. All she wanted was to drag Chloe down with her, to make her suffer the same way, being messed with like a plaything. 

She just wanted to tear down that holier–than–thou attitude Chloe always wore on her face.

But as soon as Chloe said that, Gary, who’d been bored out of his mind, suddenly looked a little curious.
