Chapter 81 

Bryan was the old man whose house Chloe had stayed at last night. 

He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, his eyes filled with terror as he frantically shook his head. 

“No, I saw them get hypnotized and dragged away by zombies. How could this be?” Bryan insisted.

As they looked around, they realized they had wandered into the village’s forbidden zone, and everyone looked uneasy. 

This was the village’s biggest secret, the place where the Zombie Girl and the mutant giant willow tree lived. 

The villagers had to bring them fresh meat, and their overwhelming aura kept other zombies from coming in. 

Normally, no one from the village dared to come anywhere near this place. It didn’t matter who one was; if one even got close, one never came back. 

The villagers started to get restless at the thought. 

Suddenly, Andy shouted, his finger trembling as he pointed at a large pit not far away. 

“No way! Where did the giant willow tree go? And where’s my sister, the Zombie Girl?” he cried out. 

The Zombie Girl was Andy’s little sister. She almost never left this area during the day; she’d always be wandering around here. 

Only then did everyone realize that the Zombie Girl was missing, too. 

Chloe and her crew were standing right at the spot where the giant willow tree once stood. 

Suddenly, a chilling thought struck the villagers. Their eyes went wide with fear, and they kept backing away. 

A villager shouted, “You killed them!” 

Another cried out, “No way! That’s impossible!” 

Frank just shrugged, stepping forward. “Come on, it’s obvious. We’re the ones who did it.” 

“No, that’s just not possible!” one of the villagers blurted out, shaking his head in disbelief. 

The crowd grew restless, shooting Frank and his crew with looks full of hate. 

“You murderers! Killing them is going to get us all killed!” someone yelled. 

Even the village chief, Bryan, was fuming with rage. 

“These damn troublemakers! We ought to burn them alive and sacrifice them to the gods!” he shouted. 

Emily just laughed, arms crossed, watching with interest as the villagers fumed and called them murderers. 

“Murderers? What a joke,” Emily sneered. 

“Didn’t you kill people when you were offering flesh to the giant willow tree and the Zombie Girl? And when you were chomping down on raw human meat,” Emily gagged. Just imagining that scene made Emily retch. 

The villagers recoiled in terror. With the apocalypse dragging on this long, everyone’s food stores had run dry. 

Eating raw human flesh was an open secret. Every household did it, but no one ever talked about it. 

Chapter 81 

Dec 25 STEA 

Now that Emily had exposed them, their faces went pale with shame and anger. 

“Don’t listen to these outsiders! Kill them and sacrifice them to the gods!” Bryan shouted. 

“Yeah, kill them!” someone else yelled. 

“Kill them!” someone else yelled. 

The villagers were seeing red, completely lost it, going berserk.

Sure, the Zombie Girl and the mutant giant willow tree had to feed on fresh meat every single day, but they did keep the village safe, keeping the outside zombies at bay. 

Now that their protection was gone, the sense of security they’d managed to build up just crumbled in a heartbeat. 

After the apocalypse, people were already short–tempered and ready to explode. This was like lighting a fuse. 

Mindy scrambled to her feet, her hair a total mess, her military coat torn to shreds with bits of cotton stuffing falling out. 

She stumbled over to Chloe and the others, her voice cracking with sobs as she cried out, “They’re demons!” 

Late at night, Mindy had been mesmerized by that haunting song and drifted off to sleep. 

Luckily, she was always on high alert, and as a second–level powered human, she woke up earlier than most. 

But when she opened her eyes, her family was gone, and the whole house reeked of blood. 

She rushed downstairs and saw the family chomping on raw human flesh, with four severed heads sitting right on the table, her own family. 

As they ate, they were scheming about how to make Mindy earn them food. 

After all, most of the women in the village had died off since the apocalypse, and Mindy was still pretty. If each of them took a turn with her, the family could get a lot of food in return. 

Hearing that, Mindy lost it and slaughtered the whole family, blinded by fury. 

But there were two second–level powered humans patrolling the village, no way she could fight them. She just bolted, running for her life without looking back. 

By some miracle, she actually ran straight into Chloe and the others. 

Chloe stepped forward, her right hand curling into a claw. With a swipe through the air, countless ice blades shimmered into existence all around her. 

Three tornadoes erupted from the earth, instantly separating the two groups. 

Her red lips parted, and her voice was icy, chilling to the bone, like a demon crawling out of hell. 

“Good timing. I’ve been dying for a fight. All of you, come at me together,” she said. 

As soon as the words left her mouth, her aura surged, saturating the air with murderous intent. 

Frank and Emily whipped out their guns, pointing those cold, black muzzles right at the villagers. 

People freaked out, scrambling to get away. 

“Guns? They actually have guns!” Andy freaked out, stumbling backward until David grabbed him.

Chapter 81

“Chill out! Guns are banned, no way those are real. They’re probably just some fake guns they picked up somewhere, trying to scare us,” David scoffed. 

He barely finished speaking when, with a bang, a bloody hole burst open in David’s temple. He still wore that arrogant sneer as he collapsed lifelessly to the ground. 

“David!” Andy screamed, his voice shaking with fear. 

Andy’s legs gave out, and he wet himself in terror. 

Frank blew on the muzzle of his gun, then whistled mockingly at the villagers. 

“Who’s next?” he called out, swaggering with a cocky confidence that left Emily staring in disbelief. 

“Wow, Frank, your shooting’s on point!” Emily said. 

Frank straightened his back, grinning. “You bet.” 

With his precision ability, Frank’s aim was dead–on every time. His shots packed a punch and could take down any single target with ease. 

Whether it was range or explosive power, Frank’s shots packed ten times the punch of a regular bullet. 

That one shot sent the villagers working the outer wall running for their lives. Their unity was already shaky to begin with. 

They scattered in all directions, tails between their legs. 

Frank raised an eyebrow. “Guns aren’t much use against zombies or mutant freaks, but when it comes to killing people? They work way better than any ability.” 

“Too bad we don’t have many bullets left,” he added with a click of his tongue. 

After that, they found an empty villa and holed up there for a few hours to rest. 

Mindy and Frank took turns standing guard. 

At noon, the group left the village and set off toward Riverside. 

“Hey, where’s our car?” Frank suddenly called out. 

As they passed the spot where they’d parked the RV yesterday, Frank let out a surprised yelp. 

Emily shot him a look. “Use your sensing ability. Where’s the car?” she teased. 

Frank furrowed his brows. No matter how hard he tried to figure it out, he just couldn’t make sense of what was going on. 

Judging by the looks on Emily and Chloe’s faces, he knew the car was definitely still around. 

Wait, and now that he thought about it. The Zombie Girl was missing too. 

Weren’t they supposed to collect thirty three–level or higher mutant cores to upgrade the Zombie Girl? 

Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine as a wild possibility hit him. His eyes widened, and his mind was racing with all sorts of crazy thoughts. 

“Wait. Don’t tell me you actually have a spiritual space?” Frank blurted out, his voice shaking with disbelief. 

Emily slapped his hand away, rolling her eyes. “Stop freaking out already.”

Even Mindy, standing off to the side, was totally stunned. 

She couldn’t believe someone really had a spiritual space power, just like something out of a web novel. 

‘Man, I really hit the jackpot, Mindy thought to herself. 

“Alright, let’s pick up the pace. Let’s hope we reach Riverside before it gets dark,” Chloe urged.
