Molly Hughes didn’t want to call out to Joan Lawrence, but she hadn’t had a single drop of water in three days, and the hunger was just too much to bear.Â
Molly knew that even if she called for her mom, it wouldn’t change anything. Joan hadn’t eaten in days either, and she had a baby on the way.Â
So, after saying that, Molly hugged her doll tightly and lowered her head before Joan could say anything.Â
Joan pulled Molly into her arms, her heart aching. She didn’t say a word, but she couldn’t hold back her tears.Â
Joan couldn’t help but look with longing at Nina, who was nestled against her man, quietly nibbling on a piece of bread.Â
Joan opened her mouth, struggling to find the words.Â
“Nina, please, could you spare just a little bit for Molly? She hasn’t had anything to eat in three days,” Joan pleaded, her voice trembling.Â
Nina gave her a scornful glance, her tone icy and full of sarcasm.Â
“Joan, we used to be neighbors, right? Back in the day, maybe we’d help each other out. But now? It’s the apocalypse, and I’ve got a baby to feed; I can’t afford to share,” Nina sneered.Â
She paused, then went on. “Weren’t you always the fierce one? Where’s all that fire now? Honestly, a woman’s only got herself to blame if she picks the wrong man. Frank used to be such a big deal, huh? Too bad.”Â
She didn’t bother finishing, but it was obvious that she thought Frank was long gone.Â
‘So what if he was tough or made a ton of money? In the end, he just ended up as zombie chow,‘ Nina thought to herself.Â
Nina always believed she was way prettier than Joan, but Joan married a better man, and that always made Nina bitter.Â
It was funny how things changed. When the apocalypse hit, Frank vanished, but Nina’s man was still right there with her.Â
Joan was too embarrassed to say anything, but Molly stuck her head out from behind and glared daggers at Nina.Â
“My dad’s not dead! I can feel it. He’s going to find us!” Molly insisted, her voice full of determination.Â
Nina let out a mocking laugh, her tone dripping with fake sympathy. “Oh, sure, your dad’s still alive. Well, let’s just hope you two don’t starve before he magically shows up.”Â
Molly was furious, ready to fire back, but Joan quickly held her back.Â
“Don’t talk. Save your strength,” Joan whispered.Â
Right now, conserving their energy was the most important thing.Â
Molly didn’t say anything else, just whispered, “Mom, I can feel it Dad’s out there looking for us. He’s definitely coming.”Â
Joan’s eyes brightened. “Really?”Â
Molly gave a firm nod.Â
With that answer, a glimmer of hope was rekindled in Joan’s heart.Â
Joan trusted Molly so much because her daughter had had several premonitions already, and every single one was dead–on.Â

Even getting to the supermarket safely was all thanks to Molly’s visions. She could tell them exactly which roads to take to dodge zombies and where to scavenge for supplies, and she was right every time.Â
Nina and her man had come along for the ride, but they just chalked it up to luck.Â
‘Come on, how many times can you call that luck?‘ she wondered.Â
Joan clenched her fists, her eyes burning with determination. ‘Frank will come back. I know he will, she told herself.Â
Just then, Joan felt a sudden gush of hot liquid between her legs, and a sharp pain stabbed through her belly.Â
“Crap, I’m going into labor,” Joan thought, panic flooding her chest.Â
She wasn’t even supposed to be due yet, but after days of starving and all the stress, her body just gave out. She was going to have the baby two weeks early.Â
Blood poured down her thighs, and the heavy scent of it instantly filled the entire second floor of the supermarket.Â
Outside, the horde of zombies was on the move, swarming madly toward the supermarket.Â
Chloe and her crew had just barely made it to the supermarket entrance when they got swarmed by zombies, one wave afterÂ
another.Â
“Something’s seriously wrong with these zombies!” Chloe yelled, her voice tense.Â
They were hell–bent on getting inside, charging straight for the supermarket and not even sparing a glance at the living people standing right there.Â
Emily’s eyes widened in shock. “Someone’s giving birth on the second floor!”Â
Chloe’s face went pale. “Everybody, we need to move, now!” she yelled, panic in her voice.Â
Zombies go nuts at the smell of blood. Even a single drop can send them into a frenzy. But with all the blood from childbirth, it could attract every zombie in Riverside.Â
This is one of the worst things about the apocalypse.Â
Emily knew just how bad things were getting. She instantly tapped into her psychic powers to scan the area, then pointed ahead and yelled, “Over there! There’s a hotel, and it’s got way fewer zombies!”Â
“Over there! There’s a hotel, and it’s got way fewer zombies!”Â
Everyone exchanged a quick look and bolted for the hotel. They’d barely made it out when the supermarket entrance was completely overrun by a horde of zombies.Â
Chloe glanced back and saw Frank, now a 10–feet–tall giant, his ripped, bronze skin was like armor, making him the ultimate shield.Â
Regular zombies couldn’t lay a finger on him. As long as he took down those second–tier freaks, nothing could break through.Â
He was like a human fortress, holding back thousands all by himself.Â
Frank was single–handedly keeping every zombie at bay, not letting a single one get inside.Â
Emily scowled, her voice urgent. “Frank, are you out of your mind? Why are you still standing there? Get moving!”Â
Frank gave his teammates an apologetic glance. “Just go. Leave me behind. I’ll handle this.”Â

Emily yelled in frustration, “What the hell are you saying? Get your ass over here!”Â

Frank didn’t even flinch at Emily’s shouting; he just planted himself in front of the supermarket doors like a human barricade, dead set on keeping the zombies out no matter what.Â
He was powerful, but the zombie horde was endless, no matter how many he crushed, more kept swarming in. Soon, his strength was starting to fail him, and exhaustion was setting in.Â
Out of nowhere, a second–tier zombie slipped around behind him, and by the time Frank noticed, it was already too late; its claws were about to rip through his skin.Â
Just in time, an ice sword pierced right through the second–tier zombie’s skull, taking it out instantly.Â
Chloe, looking absolutely gorgeous, sliced through the zombie crowd and stood by Frank’s side, ready to fight together.Â
Frank was so moved he almost burst into tears. “Why are you here?”Â
Just then, a vine came whipping down from above, smashing straight through the supermarket wall. Mindy had Emily tucked under one arm, swinging right over the zombies‘ heads, holding onto the vine like it was nothing.Â
“Why are you all here?” Frank asked, his voice thick with emotion.Â
Emily spat at him, grumbling, “You think we’re the kind of people who’d just leave our teammates behind like you do?”Â
“I wasn’t,” Frank blurted out, desperate to explain, but Chloe stepped in before he could finish.Â
“We’re a team, Frank. We know you wouldn’t risk it unless you had a damn good reason,” Chloe said firmly.Â
Frank was so choked up he could barely see straight. He let his fist fly, caving in a zombie’s skull right in front of him.Â
“I’ve got this gut feeling, if I don’t go in today, I’ll regret it forever. Chloe, do you think it’s Joan in there having the baby?” Frank said, his voice shaking.Â
He kept quiet about it because he wanted to hold off the zombies by himself, his wife was about to give birth, and that’s a whole different level of trouble. He didn’t want to drag his teammates into this mess.Â
Not only would it bring every zombie in the area running, but it could even lure in mutant beasts and mutant plants.Â
She was his wife, and he’d rather face it alone than put his friends at risk for her.Â
Chloe suddenly roared, unleashing a raging tornado that tore through the zombie horde; whole swathes of them went down in an instant. No one could mess with her when sheÂ
got serious.Â
“We’re a team,” Chloe said, her voice steady and unwavering.Â
With just those few words, Frank’s loyalty to Chloe soared to a whole new level.Â
The message was clear. No matter how deadly things got, she’d never abandon a teammate or their family.Â
