Everyone instantly turned their heads when they heard the sound. 

Frank stumbled over to Joan, grabbed his wife in a tight hug, bawling his eyes out like a little kid. 

“Don’t cry… I’m right here,” Joan comforted him gently. 

“Babe, you’re finally awake,” Frank sobbed. 

Chloe could only stare speechlessly. 

Emily just stared, lost for words. 

Mindy was at a total loss for words. 

The sudden role reversal left the onlookers speechless. 

They watched in disbelief as the stoic tough guy wiped tears from his own eyes. 

The entire scene felt backward. He was supposed to be the one giving comfort, not needing it.

From the room came the soft, scattered cries of a newborn. The baby was scrawny, red, and wrinkled all over. 

Chloe handed over the baby stuff she’d gotten ready. 

When she caught sight of the tiny, crimson bundle, she nearly dropped the clothes in her trembling hands. The infant looked like a little old man. 

He was so small it seemed a single careless touch could make him disappear. 

“Congratulations, Captain Hunter, it’s a boy!” Liana beamed. 

She wrapped the baby up in a soft blanket and handed him over to Frank. 

Frank took the baby, looking totally lost, and quickly blurted out, “I’m not the captain. She is.” 

Liana followed his gaze and saw Chloe staring at the baby, her face full of confusion, clearly wondering why the little guy looked so odd. 

Liana was taken aback. 

She quickly recovered and turned to Chloe, saying, “Captain Yates, I’m so sorry, I-” 

Chloe interrupted her, waving it off. “It’s fine.” 

She gave a reluctant glance at the baby in Frank’s arms, then at Joan, who looked like she was on her last legs, and couldn’t help but rub her forehead. 

‘What a headache, Chloe thought. ‘But what can I do? Guess I’ll just have to look after them.‘

So Chloe turned to Liana and said, “Liana, right? Can you help me out with something? 

Liana scrubbed her bloody hands on her clothes and instinctively straightened up. 

She was so hungry that her head was spinning and her stomach felt glued to her back. But she didn’t dare step out of line. 

Chloe took a moment, then asked, “You used to deliver babies, right? So you know how to take care of moms after they give birth?” 

“Yes,” Liana answered quickly. 

Liana’s hands shook, and her heart thumped wildly. She had a feeling about what was making her nerves go haywire.

Chloe said, “We need someone to take care of the baby. Want to join our crew? I promise you’ll get three meals a day. No starving, ever.” 

Liana almost stumbled, her eyes wide with shock. “No starving?” 

Emily flashed a big grin. “Yep! As long as you’re with our boss, you’ll always have food.” 

Liana nodded furiously, tears of happiness rolling down her cheeks. “Yes, yes, I’m in!” 

She spoke in a rushed and eager tumble, desperate to get the words out before the chance vanished. Tm healthy, and I’m useful. I can do laundry, cook, and care for children. 

“I used to be a surgeon, so I can perform operations. I also know some traditional medicine, so if anyone gets sick or hurt, I can help.” 

She ducked her head, a little sheepish. “Just… I don’t have any meds on me.” 

Chloe’s eyes lit up, thinking, ‘With a doctor on board, our crew’s finally complete. 

“I’ve got some meds I picked up from different pharmacies. After we’ve had something to eat, I’ll give them to you,” Chloe said. 

When Liana heard there were meds, she couldn’t stop thanking Chloe, her excitement written all over her 

face. 

None of them, not even Chloe, had eaten all day. 

They finally got to sit down for a good meal, then cleaned up all the blood in the RV together and took turns showering. 

Outside, it was pitch black. 

But inside the RV, things were still buzzing with activity. 

It was a little crowded now with the new teammate, but luckily, the RV was big enough, and everyone got their own single bed.

She helped Joan take a hot shower, got her changed into fresh clothes, cooked up a meal for her in the kitchen, and only after all that did Liana finally pull out the foldable bed and crash for the night herself. 

Liana was about to wash everyone’s laundry, but Chloe waved her off, telling her to j clothes.

Even though Liana was totally wiped out from the day, she was in the best mood ever–a kind of satisfaction she’d never felt in her life. 

She never would’ve dreamed that after the apocalypse, she’d get to sleep in a warm room again. 

Up on the second floor, things had totally spiraled out of control. Everyone was scared for their own safety. 

Ever since Drake and the powered humans returned battered and bleeding, the cold air turned their blood to ice, and their wounds were all bruised and discolored. 

The few doctors left couldn’t do anything for Drake’s injuries, so he just offed them without a second thought. 

Now, everyone was on edge, huddled in the corners, no one daring to make a sound. 

With darkness closing in, the only thing breaking the silence was the sound of Drake and the powered humans wailing in pain, until they finally drifted off into a deep sleep in the middle of the night. 

Early morning, just as dawn was breaking, a chorus of screams erupted from the second floor. 

The survivors discovered that Drake and his crew of powered humans had all died during the freezing night. 

They were frozen stiff, looking just like a bunch of ice statues. 

Peyton didn’t lift a finger yesterday, so he was totally unharmed. 

Now, he took over as the new boss and told everyone to pry open a window and toss the frozen. outside.

Nina, the pregnant woman, strutted through the crowd with her hand on her belly, looking all high and mighty as she made her way to the food stash. 

She pulled back the curtain, revealing a mountain of supplies inside.

Someone nearby, trying to butter her up, said, “Nina, are you thirsty? I’ve been keeping this bottle of water warm for you.” 

Nina raised an eyebrow, took the bottle without a second thought, and downed it in one go. 

“Smart move. Here, this is your reward,” she said, tossing a pack of pasta to him.

“Thanks, Nina! You’re not just beautiful, you’re so kind. Your son’s gonna be one in a million,” the guy gushed. 

His sweet talk totally worked. Nina was so pleased that she handed him a whole box 

After that, everyone started showering her with compliments. 

At this point, Nina should’ve been satisfied. But of all the things she could have done, the worst was messing with the people downstairs. 

Chloe and the crew woke up to the delicious smell of breakfast wafting through the RV. 

Liana, quick as ever, brought out the hot food with a big smile. Seeing everyone awake, she beamed and called out, “Rise and shine. Breakfast’s ready and the laundry’s all done! Perfect timing. Come and eat!” 

‘Well, this is a bit much,‘ everyone thought, feeling a little embarrassed. 

Chloe cleared her throat. “Liana, you don’t need to do all this. We hired you mainly to take care of the baby- we’ll handle our own laundry and stuff.” 

Frank chimed in, “I’ll wash my wife’s clothes myself. Just focus on the baby, okay? Don’t stress yourself out.”
