Chapter 99Â
But to Frank and the others, Chloe’s voice sounded like the wail of a demon, sending a chill down their spines.Â
They instinctively took a few steps back.Â
Chloe acted all innocent as she asked, “John, do you have a lot of people here? Can you really protect me?”Â
She looked all scared and timid, like she was really afraid.Â
“We’ve got plenty. Around two hundred people here,” John said with confidence.Â
Chloe’s gaze briefly turned cold. But the next moment, she broke into a bright smile, clapping her hands in delight as she turned to Frank.Â
“Frank, this place feels super safe! Should we join them?” she said, sounding genuinely excited.Â
Frank gave a silent nod. “Let’s check it out first before we decide.”Â
John shot a look at one of his men, who quickly stepped forward to lead them over.Â
As they passed the gas station store, they saw it was completely empty, looted and picked clean.Â
Not far from the gas station stood a few apartment buildings. Looked like that was where the survivors were staying.Â
As soon as they stepped inside, the stench smacked them right in the face.Â
There were probably a few hundred people squeezed in here, shoulder to shoulder. Their clothes were mostly intact, but they looked filthy.Â
The whole place reeked of obvious sweat and piss.Â
When John showed up, everyone looked so terrified that they just wanted to crawl into a hole and hide.Â
But a few gutsier folks, catching sight of Chloe, who was spotless, gorgeous, and totally out of place, couldn’t help but gulp nervously.Â
“Hey sweetheart, this is just where the others crash. Our spot’s further in…” John started to say, his words fading out.Â
But he suddenly clammed up, and that hungry look on his face turned to sheer panic.Â
The barrel of a gun was aimed straight at his head.Â
Chloe kept that confident, radiant smile on her face, but it sent chills down your spine.Â
She wasn’t some sweet, innocent beauty. She was a real femme fatale.Â
“Whoa, whoa, easy! Let’s just talk, alright?” John blurted out, his voice shaking with fear.Â

Chloe didn’t mince words. Her voice was cold as ice. “Hand over every last bit of your supplies.”Â
John threw his hands up in the air, panic in his voice. “Okay, okay, easy there! No need to freak out!”Â
‘Should’ve known better than to mess with women, especially the pretty ones. They’re downright terrifying, John thought, shuddering inside.Â
John spun around and hurried upstairs. Once they hit the third floor, he nervously fished out a key from inside his jacket, his hands shaking as he got ready to unlock the door.Â
Suddenly, John dropped into a crouch, one hand twisting to grab Chloe’s wrist while the from his boot. He moved so fast that it was over in a blink.Â
knifeÂ
But Chloe was even quicker. Just as John’s hand was about to catch her, she stepped back, cool and unflinching.Â
At that exact moment, a gunshot cracked through the air. John’s brains splattered everywhere. He was dead before he hit the ground.Â
Chloe, unfazed, picked up the key and unlocked the third–floor door.Â
Inside, mountains of supplies greeted them.Â
But it was all just canned food, pasta, and ration bars. None of it impressed her in the slightest.Â
With a flick of her wrist, Chloe locked the door behind her, cool as ever.Â
Chloe came downstairs and spoke bluntly, “There’s a gas station over there. Anyone up for digging? Two meals a day if you do.”Â
The food was attractive enough.Â
A scrawny man shakily raised his hand. “I… I’ll do it.”Â
“Good. Go grab two packs of pasta,” Chloe said, her tone cool and decisive.Â
When they heard they could get food, everyone started raising their hands like crazy.Â
“I’ll go too!”Â
“Me too!”Â
In the end, everyone who wasn’t bedridden picked up their rations and went off to dig at the gas station.Â
Frank’s figure appeared quietly behind the crowd.Â
“No slacking off! Get digging,” Frank ordered, his voice cold.Â
After just one day of digging, they actually found gasoline buried underground.Â
Chloe gave Frank a meaningful look, and he promptly ordered everyone to clear out.Â

With a casual wave, Chloe swept all the underground gasoline straight into sealed barrels inside her spiritualÂ
space.Â
Before heading out, Chloe gave away every last bit of the third–floor stash to the survivors.Â
“Oh, and one more thing. The army will show up in a day or two. Just hang tight and wait for rescue, Chloe said coolly.Â
Then, cool as ever, her team got in their van and left.Â
Everyone had been hoping and praying for the army to show up, and when those mi arrived, people broke down in tears of joy.Â
“The army’s finally here!” someone sobbed, their voice shaking with relief.Â
finallyÂ
The moment the army trucks rolled in, everyone rushed over and surrounded them, desperate for help.Â
Frank had been driving smoothly and fast, but everyone got tired eventually. Seeing this, Chloe offered to take over and swapped seats with him.Â
Emily hopped into the passenger seat.Â
“Chloe, why’d you suddenly turn?” Emily asked, sounding puzzled.Â
“I’ve got a warehouse nearby. Just wanna see if our stuff’s still there,” Chloe said casually.Â
On the outskirts of Riverside, there was a rundown little town with an abandoned factory. Inside, some bandits were holed up, making it their hideout.Â
Two women, barely clothed and tied up to the pillars, their eyes wide with fear and panic.Â
“Ramon, this place is perfect for our base! Seriously, who was dumb enough to stash all this stuff here? Lucky for us, we scored big!” one of the bandits laughed, practically drooling over the loot.Â
Ramon was all smiles. “Told you guys. Following me out of that village was the best decision ever, wasn’t it?”Â
Elio, another guy, was grinning so wide you could see every tooth, ripping open a loaf of bread and stuffing it into his mouth.Â
“Ramon, you’re the man! With all this stuff, we could eat like kings for weeks,” Elio snickered, clearly thrilled.Â
“Before the apocalypse, some clueless chick bought up a ton of supplies and said she was donating them to some mountain village. I was the one who dropped it off. Never thought all this stuff would still be here,” Ramon said, shaking his head in disbelief.Â
The warehouse was stacked high with goods. Most of them were potatoes and sweet potatoes, plus loads of canned food and lots of unopened food packs.Â
“Man, too bad there aren’t any beds here. It’s freezing at night,” Elio complained.Â

“Let’s go check it out,” Chloe said, her tone icy and commanding.Â
Chloe grabbed the key, popped the gate open just for now, and walked right in.Â
The stuff in this warehouse got dropped off the day before everything went to hell. It was the last shipment, and nobody ever came to pick it up.Â
‘No telling how much those bandits have already looted or wasted,‘ Chloe thought, frowning to herself.Â
