Suddenly, Mrs.Rowan said, “Today, Mrs. William, the wife of the chairman of Prosper Group, asked me why Vivian didn’t attend her sister’s wedding. It made me so embarrassed. She really let me down. After all these years…”
I watched their faces change. I felt pain in my heart. People can still feel pain even when they’re dead!
The phone rang. My brother picked up.
On the phone was a gentle female voice. She asked, ‘Hello, may I ask if this is the residence of Vivian?‘
Rowan was surprised to hear my name on the phone. He hadn’t heard from me for six months. It was as if he
hadn’t seen me since I came back and said I had
cancer.
‘Hello, is this Vivian’s family?‘ The person on the phone

‘She died yesterday at noon in our hospital. She had advanced cancer. Her body is in the morgue. The family can come and claim it for cremation.‘
Rowan felt a sudden pain in his heart. But when he thought of the medical report, he felt angry. ‘If she’s dead, then she’s dead. You can just find a funeral parlour to burn it, and then just scatter her ashes.!‘
He hung up. Mum and Mr.Rowan heard the noise and when they heard I was dead, they looked disdainful.
Mum said with a laugh, ‘Vivian’s dead? How is that possible? They say that a bad penny always turns up. If she could die, I would immediately set off fireworks to celebrate. Our family finally got rid of this curse.‘
After she scolded me, she remembered her eldest
daughter who had cancer, and she cried. ‘Why did it have to be Jocelyn who got cancer? She’s such a wonderful girl.’
She spoke sincerely, and Mr.Rowan’s face darkened, and he felt even more resentful towards me.
