Chapter 10
Frederick’s brows furrowed slightly, and his grip on the phone unconsciously tightened.
For eight years of marriage, Abigail had always replied to his messages instantly.
Even if Abigail was in the shower, she would dry her hands immediately to reply as soon as she received his message, never letting his texts go unanswered overnight.
After a long while, Frederick put down his phone, rubbed his brow, and got out of bed to wash up.
He had promised his child to go camping with Shannon today, and he couldn’t break his word.
When he went to the dressing room to pick out clothes, he picked up a tracksuit and put it down again, opened Abi- gail’s WhatsApp, and sent her another message.
“Where did you put my gray tracksuit? I couldn’t find it in the dressing room.”
He waited five minutes, but still received no reply.
His message seemed to vanish into thin air, and an inexplicable irritation rose in Frederick’s heart.
He exited the chat, casually grabbed a black tracksuit, got dressed, and went downstairs.
Timothy had packed up early and was waiting for him downstairs.
When Frederick came down, Timothy couldn’t wait to sling his camping bag over his shoulder and run up to him: “Dad, let’s go!”
Frederick nodded, took his son’s hand, and gave instructions to the butler before leaving.
“If Abigail comes back, let me know right away.”
The butler replied, “Alright.”
After Frederick picked up Shannon with his son, the three of them headed to Creekwood Campground to prepare for camping.
Once the tent was set up, Timothy bounced around inside, taking photos with his phone to send to the family group chat and Instagram.
After the photos were posted to the family group and Instagram, the elders of the Kemp family liked and commented one after another.
Timothy waited a long time, but still didn’t get a reply from Abigail.
After a moment, he tossed his phone aside, pouted, and went to find Frederick in a huff.

“Dad, why didn’t Mom like my Instagram post?”
Hearing this, Frederick paused as he was setting up the dining table.
“Mom is busy. She’ll check your Instagram once she’s done.”
Timothy was half-convinced, half-doubtful: “Then I’ll take some more pictures.”
With that, he grabbed his phone and ran off to take more photos.

Shannon, who had listened to the whole exchange, walked over to Frederick: “Frederick, are you having a fight with your wife?”
Frederick had never hidden anything from Shannon, but this time, for some reason, he didn’t want to answer truthfully and just brushed it off: “No.”
Shannon had been with Frederick for five years and knew everything about him; she could instantly tell he was being
evasive.
She pulled her shawl tighter and continued, “You must be sulking. Women need to be coaxed.”
“Back when we were together, no matter how badly we argued, as soon as I frowned, you would immediately calm down and come over to comfort me.”
As she spoke, a trace of loneliness appeared on her face, and she murmured, “After we broke up, no one has ever treated me that well again.”
Frederick didn’t continue the topic. He pulled a chair over behind Shannon and said, “Sit down and rest for a while. I’ll call you when the barbecue ingredients are ready.”
Shannon shook her head and walked over to Frederick.
“I’m not that fragile. You don’t have to treat me like I’m made of glass. Let me help you.”
Seeing this, Frederick didn’t say anything more.
The two of them prepared the ingredients side by side.
Many families came camping today, and the area was filled with laughter and joy.
Shannon looked at Timothy playing with other children not far away, then glanced at Frederick, who was focused on preparing the food beside her. Her clear eyes brimmed with a smile, and she couldn’t help but speak.
“Frederick, I feel so happy right now. I wish I could live like this forever-with you, with me, and with the child.”
Frederick parted his thin lips, about to say something, but was interrupted by Timothy running back.
“Shannon, I want to take a photo with you.”
Shannon agreed immediately: “Okay.”
The two of them pulled Frederick in and took many group photos together.
