Chapter 220Â
My skin sizzled where it touched. And I was too exhausted to scream anymore.Â
I knelt on the freezing stone floor of the Crucible’s throne hall, blood and bruises painting my body like some sick, artistic declaration. My hair, gods, my ridiculous, too long, silver, purple, blue, green, streaked mess, was tangled and crusted with blood. Some mine. SomeÂ
not.Â
I didn’t bother to move it out of my face. Let the bastards look. Vaela strolled in like the sadistic queen she thought she was, crimson robes swirling around her like bloodied smoke. Her heels clicked with that smug cadence that made Lyssira snarl in my head, though sheÂ
was too weak to rise.Â
“Oh look,” Vaela sneered, crouching to my level. Her nails dragged across my jaw, and I had to bite my lip to keep from flinching. “The great Elowen Skye. Alpha’s girl. Goddess’s toy. Everyone’s fucking savior.”Â
She spat. Right in my face. I sneered and bared my teeth at her.Â
“I should thank you,” she said with venomous sweetness. “Your pathetic influence ruined Soria. My perfect little soldier. She’s taintedÂ
now. All because you bewitched her. You turned her against me.”Â
I chuckled, because fuck her. “Or maybe she realized you’re just a sad, power hungry cunt.”Â
The backhand came fast. My cheek split open. Across the room, Lucien laughed and picked up a silver goblet, then hurled it at me withÂ
supernatural speed. It struck my ribs, hard. I didn’t cry out. I wouldn’t give them that.Â
“You think you’re still something?” Lucien growled, stalking closer. “You think they’ll come for you?”Â
I said nothing.Â
“Your mates abandoned you. We watched them run.” He bent down, his face inches from mine. “You bleed just like the rest of us,Â
‘Chosen.””Â
Another figure appeared in the doorway, Ezekiel. His smirk made my blood run cold.Â
“Shoulda chained her in my room,” he said, licking his lips. “We could’ve had some fun before the blood goddess takes her soul.”Â
Vaela didn’t stop him when he leaned down and stroked my hair. Didn’t flinch when he whispered, “When no one’s looking, I’ll make sureÂ
you feel real fear, pet.”Â
Lyssira roared in my mind, but there was nowhere to go. I was bound. Trapped. Held down by chains made from cursed magic and cruelty.Â
The worst part? They knew I couldn’t fight back yet. And they were enjoying every second. But I’d remember this. Every word. EveryÂ
bruise. Every threat.Â
Chapter 220Â
Because I was Elowen Skye. And I wasn’t going to break. Not here. Not like this.Â
The chamber cleared out slowly. First Vaela, still seething, her magic trailing behind like the hiss of a viper. Then Lucien, bored now that the theatrics were done. The vampires of the Lock filed out in silence, their expressions unreadable. Even the cultist mages followed like dogs, disappearing behind cold iron doors that groaned as they shut.Â
The heavy lock clanked. Click. Click. Boom. I was alone. Except for him. Ezekiel.Â
The one they called the “Silent Fang.”Â
Which was ironic, really, because he never fucking shut up when he had someone helpless beneath him. His boots echoed as he stalkedÂ
toward me, each step deliberate, slow, and full of dark promise.Â
“Finally,” he breathed. “No fucking audience.”Â
I didn’t move. Couldn’t, not with these chains. But I stared him down with ice in my gaze. “Touch me, and I’ll gut you with my teeth.”Â
He grinned. “That’s the plan, sweetheart.”Â
He dropped to his knees in front of me and reached out, brushing my cheek with the back of his hand like I was something to own. MyÂ
stomach rolled. His creepy eyes leered at me as he took in my naked figure. Fucking creep.Â
“You know,” he whispered, “Vaela thinks breaking your mind will be enough. But I want your body to scream, too. Maybe then you’ll stopÂ
playing goddess.”Â
He reached for my waist. That was his first mistake. I surged forward, jerking the chains as hard as I could to give me just enough slack. My knee rammed straight into his balls with everything I had left. He shrieked, a high, strangled, pathetic sound.Â
“You BITCH!”Â
His hand flew up to strike me again, but I lunged, jaws open like a fucking wolf, and bit down on his ear. Hard. Blood filled my mouth. He roared in fury and shoved me off with supernatural strength, and my body slammed into the stone floor like a rag doll.
