Chapter 18
Blaze
I wasn’t sure I’ve ever been this enraged before. If I hadn’t tightened my restraints at the last moment, my beast would have broken out, and that wouldn’t end good no matter what.
As I stalked forward, I tugged off the first man straddling Elena and punched him in the face before flinging him hard into the nearest wall. The rest of the men scrambled, jumping to their feet and holding large sticks as they advanced me. I was too angry, and one glance at Elena’s tear stricken face and I delivered a hard kick into one of the men, then I caught the defending stick of the second man and used it to sharply pull him fiwace before kneeling him in the stomach and watching as he double over with a loud cough.
I beat them all up, and they were all groaning and rolling in the ground by the time I was done. Everything was still red, and my beast was still furious and unsatisfied. My beast wanted blood, he wanted us to kill tonight, to hurt those that hurt our mate.
When I approached Elena, I noticed her eyes widened as she blinked up at me. I was certain I looked quite mad, bloodied up and hair scattered while my eyes glowed, but she didn’t Inch away when I crouched by her sude and graced her cheek before I could stop myself.
“Are you okay?” I asked, voice deep and soft at the same time. She blinked as she nodded, but she sniffled when she attempted to speak, and I saw red all over again, consuming me with the urge to return back to those men and break their bones this time.
I let my eyes drag over her body. Her clothes were not that out of place, so it was safe to assure they didn’t succeed in going all the way with her. A relieved sigh left my throat before I could stop it or wonder why that happened.
Her cheek had a handprint and her hair looked like it had been pulled around hard. There were handprints on her arms as well, and her eyes were swimming with tears when our eyes locked again.
Without stopping to think, I slipped my arms underneath her and hoisted her up. Her eyes widened as she regarded me for a moment, before she swallowed emptily and buried her face in my throat, her hands coming around my shoulders to cling unto me tightly.
A harsh breath left my throat and something warm settled right in the lies of my stomach. Something I couldn’t identify but I chose to pay it no mind right now as I began to walk outside the old building. My fangs were still aching right now with the urge to sink them into a throat, into Elena’s throat, but I ignored those urges as I emerged outside the building. I felt relief for a moment because I almost hadn’t expected to find out where she was at with just the slight bite I gave her. It wasn’t unheard of for mates to be able to tell where each other are, but that’s by the bond fully forged between them.
Between myself and Elena; there was no bond forged between us yet, so it was crazy to see it actually work.
As I head towards my car, cars suddenly pulled up right before me and I quickly tensed up, tightening my hold on Elena while my eyes narrowed, my beast coming to the surface again as he swamped my head with the strong urge to protect our mate.
When the doors opened and my betas and some guards poured out, I let out a sigh and relaxed again. And that’s when I realized that my betas had chased after me and had been trying to reach me through the mind

“Are you alright, my king?” One of them asked ss they stepped forward. I nodded tensely before glancing
down at Elena.
“You found her.” One of the betas whispered in awe as I walked past them, and into the back seat of one of the cars the betas brought along with them.
“Bring the men in the building along, have them imprisoned. They’d be questioned tomorrow.” I instructed and the guards went off to do as ordered.
After they were done, one of the guards got behind the wheels and began the drive home.
Throughout the ride, I wanted to put Elena down. She was no longer crying, but she still had her face buried in my throat as she remained over my laps, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do that. I want to believe that was because of my beast and no other reason. I had been so mad at her tonight but one look at her after kicking down that door and everything melted away at once.
Once at the palace, I carried Elena out of the car, and headed straight to my wing. I knew she wasn’t asleep because her hold around my shoulders tightened, her face buried against my throat as I kept walking till I was at her door. Once inside her room, I laid her in her bed and took a step back to assess her again.
She stared down at her fingers for about a minute without saying anything, then she peered up at me, those large eyes appearing even larger.
“Thank you for saving me.” She whispered before glancing away and I remained in the same position, exhaling slowly before dragging a hand through my hair and feeling the urge to start pacing right now.
“I thought you ran away after disobeying me.” I pointed out and her eyes widened as she shook her head.
“I didn’t, I wouldn’t have anywhere to go anyway.” She murmured quietly and I frowned as I kept staring at her. She seemed vulnerable right now, and bared, unlike how she usually feels like she’s hiding a thousand things at all times.
“Are you really okay though? Those men, did they…”
She shook her head. “Um, you arrived before they could fully do it. So, I’m okay… just scared.”
Her voice was quieter this time and as I stared at her some more, breathing in her warm, pleasant scent, I was suddenly filled with the urge to embrace her and assure her that no harm would befall her because I’d protect and keep her safe. The thought startled me and I took a step backward, wondering why she was messing with my head right now.
I suddenly didn’t know what to do, and when an ache resurfaced in my fangs, coupled with the urge to bite into that slim throat, I took that as my time to leave before I lost control and did something stupid.
Once in my room, Maya was splayed over my bed and she fluttered her lashes at me as I walked over to the window and began to shrug out of my shirt whims suddenly feeling irritated.
“You’re still in here?” I gruffed before I could stop myself. That wasn’t fully me, my beast was more behind it.

“I came back in here after you returned with your mate. I assumed you’d want us to continue from where we stooped.” She responded in a sultry voice and I noticed her drop her robe as I turned around to regard her. She was naked as she sauntered towards me, and once she was before me, she slid her hands to my chest while peering up at me.
“I didn’t know that was why you left in a hurry though. You looked so worried before you left. Do you now care about her?”
My brows pinched together and I felt even more irritated.
“She was about to be assaulted when I got there. Of course I don’t want who’d carry my kids to get assulted.”
My tone might have come off sharper than I expected but I didn’t take it back. Instead, I caught her hand as it began to unbuckle my belt.
“Not tonight, Maya. You should leave, I need to think.” I said to her and she frowned at me for a moment before nodding and leaning up to kiss my cheek, then she went off to pick her robe before leaving.
I exhaled deeply once I was alone again, and then I undressed and hopped into the shower. The shower was cold, but it did nothing to get those large hazel eyes from my mind, nor did it stop my fangs from aching so much.
I didn’t get a fitful sleep that night.
By morning, after getting ready to face the day, my beta mind linked me and informed me that Elijah, Elena’s ex–mate, was here.
