“What?” I blurted out the same time Blaze did, and my cheeks reddened and I pointedly avoided his
“Doctor, we’d prefer the procedure gets done this way, without sex.” Blaze said to the doctor and when I glanced sideways at him, his sharp jaw was clenched and he looked almost irritated, like the thought of sleeping with me was enough to make him angry.
The doctor looked between us and cleared her throat again, then she began to flip through a file.
“You’re fated mates, right?” She asked and Blaze’s frown deepened.
“What does that have to do with anything?”

“Insemination can work out a lot of couples, but it tends to draw the line at fated mates most of the time.”
This time, I stiffened as my eyes widened, my heart racing here within me.
“And why is that?” Blaze demanded sharply the doctor sighed.
“Because that’s not something your wolf would want as an alpha, so they’d make the sperm not work in this situation. Normally, people’s wolves can’t be able to do something like this, but once it involves one’s fated mate, you’ll realize there’s a lot of things your wolf can do that you never realized… and this is one of them.”
Blaze’s jaw was still clenched when I glanced at him. When he turned sideways, I quickly averted my gaze while pushing my hair out of my face.
“So… that’s the only way? Except it’s done through sex?” He barked and I flinched a little. The doctor didn’t look fazed, like this is a normal occurrence for her, but she did grow a little tense.
“Yes, your majesty. We can try the insemination, but the rate of failure in this situation is ninety eight percent.” She explained and Blaze nodded once.
“Good. That’s exactly what we’ll try then. Even if it fails, we’ll just try it again and again. And ensure to do a good job at this, doctor.” Blaze said as he rose to his feet, quickly followed by the doctor who bowed respectfully.
“Of course, I promise, your majesty, please schedule a day you’ll like us to carry the procedure on your…” the doctor trailed off and her eyes darted towards me.
“It’s Elena.” I supplied as I rose to my feet as well.”
“Yes, Miss Elena. Please be rest assured that it’s a safe and easy procedure.” She said and I nodded tensely.
“I trust that this would be confidential, doctor. Let a peep of this conversation here not be leaked out.” This time, there was a warning edge in the king’s voice and the doctor even nodded hastily, tangling her hands together before her white coat.

After one more bow from the doctor, blaze turned and left. I thanked the doctor before falling into steps behind him. He was striding away so fast, I found it difficult to keep up with him. I used to think I had pretty long legs, but I’m realizing how short they are compared to his now that we’re both walking at the same time.
Once in the car, as soon as the driver started it, he put up a partition behemoth ourselves and the driver and I instantly tensed up, feeling uncomfortable and nervous.
The drive was silent and awkward. I couldn’t relax. I was aware of his presence beside me. His large thighs. seemed to be mocking me and I tried not to stare at them, to take in how they were parted and how his pants looked so tight right now, and I tried not to imagine how straddling him right now would feel. My ex mate never had thighs this big, nor for his scent ever smelt this good before. Presently, Blaze’s scent was filling up the car and I was subtly breathing it in as desecretlu as I could because I’d hate for him to find out that I liked his scent, especially after knowing how arrogant he is.
My mind drifted back to the conversation that took place back in the hospital, the way he vehemently refused the suggestion of sleeping with me. Did that thought annoy him too much? Did it disgust him to that extent? I know that he had seen a lot of lies online about me, but did he seriously believe them to the point of hating the thought of having sex with me?
That thought was annoying. I hated to admit it, but it hurt me a little. Not because I want him to fuck me, because that’s the last thing a sane person would want, I feel hurt because those things he seemed to believe are all lied and despite all my explanations, he dosent seem like he’d ever believe me.
This morning, Elijah came to see him. Did he manage to feed him more lies? Was that it?
Fucking Elijah. Slapping him this morning wasn’t enough. I want to hurt him, to make him cry from pain, to make him feel a quarter of all the sufferings he put me through, to utterly ruin his life on the internet and in reality.
And I’ll do all of that and so much more one day. It might not be so soon, but one day, so far im still breathing, I’ll have fully deserved revenge no matter what.
Even my cruel parents wouldn’t be spared from it.
After we returned to the palace, which is technically now my new home, the king and I went straight to his sitting room where he said he’d like to tell me a few things before heading to work.
It was empty in here except for the two of us.
“A party will be taking place tomorrow. You’ll not be attending, of course,”
I nodded tensely. “Alright then.” I responded easily, not understanding why he felt the need to tell me this. I never intend to attend any party that might take place here in this palace during my stay here, not when I’m literally a prisoner. Partying is the last thing on my mind as it is.
“You’ll completely stay away from the guests‘ view. The party is an annual festival, one that gets hosted to celebrate the success of the annual mate hunt. He continued and I swallowed emptily as realization dawned
on me.

It gets hosted to celebrate the new bonded mates that came out of each annual mate hunt. I’ve never been to one since I’ve never attended a mate hunt before.
“I wouldn’t have cared if you attended, but because of your reputation, you absolutely cannot attend. I haven’t claimed you in any way and I don’t intend to, so you suddenly popping out from my palace might send the wrong information, and I don’t want any kind of stain on the throne, the pack members definitely wouldn’t like it either.”
I nodded tensely as he kept speaking, feeling my chest start to tighten around my chest.
“It’s fine, and I understand.” I breathed out, but it truly wasn’t fine. I hate that I’m now being treated like I committed murder or something. I literally didn’t do so. In this situation, I’m the victim; from being betrayed by my mate to being forced to replace alpha Jason’s sister. Pain after pain, and yet I’m still the one being treated like the evil one.
What did I even do this deserve this?
“I have a question though. Is this how I’m gonna live the rest of my life? Here in your palace but being completely hidden away from the public eye?” I asked after a few heartbeats.
Blaze stared at me as the seconds trickled by. I tried to guess ehst he was thinking but nothing came to mind. After a few more heartbeats, he turned and exited the room without saying anything in response to my
question.
I was walking to my room because I didn’t even know anywhere around this palace and no single person had offered to show me around or give me a tour, that’s literally courtesy but I guess no one deem me an important enough guest to deserve that kind of treatment. It was while I was walking that I came across the crow’s guards.
I’d always recognize their uniforms. They were waiting by my door and I instantly tensed as I noticed them while wondering what they wanted. Before I could turn around, they already noticed me and were on me in an instant, informing me the crow sent for me, and of course, I couldn’t refuse.
This time, Blaze’s father was waiting for me by a lime tree, and he grinned at me on noticing my presence.
“How’s my favorite daughter in law?” He asked through a chuckle but all that I could imagine right now was the look on his face the last time we had an encounter before Blaze came and gave him a firm warning right in front of me. I had known Blaze was scary, but in that moment, he appeared very terrifying to me.
“Remember our last conversation that got interrupted by my son? I’d like us to resume it.” He began and I instantly tensed up.
“I was telling you why I suddenly decided to not kill you. And the answer is quite simple. It’s because I discovered that you’re a pure blooded woman and from a family of ancient bloodline.” He explained and I

I cleared my throat and bowed a little as I spoke. “I’m sorry, your grace, but I’ll have to decline the offer.”
