The sun was still high, and the yard behind the house stretched quiet and empty, except for Roman. He satÂ
on the low stone wall, his gaze fixed somewhere beyond the trees, as if trying to see through them into aÂ
world he didn’t yet understand. I spotted him immediately, tucked away in his own shadow of thought.Â
“Roman,” I called softly as I walked closer, “I’ve been looking for you.”Â
He stirred, straightening slowly. His hand brushed over his clothes, shaking off some invisible dust ofÂ
thought, and he stood fully.Â
“Something you need me to do?” His voice was careful, polite, even cautious.Â
I shook my head. “Not exactly. Today’s the general training day for the pack. You should come to theÂ
training ground.”Â
He shook his head firmly. “I… I’d rather not.”Â
I stopped in front of him, tilting my head slightly. “Why not?”Â
He exhaled slowly, almost in frustration, as though forcing words to make sense of something he didn’tÂ
yet understand. “Because… I don’t belong there. I don’t know what it even means to be a wolf. They all look at me like I’m an outcast…which I probably am already. How could I go and put myself among themÂ
by force?”Â
I smirked, but gently, letting him see the calm in my own confidence. “They don’t look at you like that. No one does. They just know… you’re from a different pack.” I let that hang a moment. Even Roman didn’t yet know which pack he belonged to, it’s understandable that people look at him a certain way. “It’s okay to step out of your comfort zone and mingle with the pack.”Â
He frowned, his brows pulling together, and I saw the hesitation in him. I understood exactly what he was feeling. I had been there myself, the first days after I’d been mated to Alexander. Coming from Silver Hollow, I knew the Blood Crescent wolves weren’t always welcoming to outsiders.Â
But I didn’t say that. Not now. It would only discourage him.Â
“Stepping out,” I explained more softly, “will help you understand how to be a wolf. And… it might even help with the memories you’re trying to find.”Â
He looked down, silent for a long moment, measuring the weight of what I’d said. Then, in a quiet, almost reluctant nod, he agreed.Â
“Alright,” he murmured.Â
I smiled lightly, seeing the tension ease fractionally from his shoulders. “Good. Let’s go then.Â

I stayed at the edge of the clearing, hands loosely in my pockets. The training ground stretched before me, alive with motion, but I had no intention of stepping in. I had come with Faye out of courtesy, not to putÂ
myself on display.Â
The pack moved with fluidity and precision. At first, I watched blankly, letting my eyes follow their strikes, dodges, and responses. There was no hesitation, no wasted effort–only control and power.Â
Gradually, I noticed the small details–the way muscles coiled and released, the subtle shifts in stance before a move, the silent glances that conveyed orders without words. It was mesmerizing.Â
And a question lodged in my mind: how long had they trained like this? How many years had they spent honing this synergy of body and mind?Â
Then the thought turned sharper. These weren’t just people who had trained hard–they were wolves their entire lives. Unlike me, a week into this existence as a…. A werewolf with no memories of before.Â
If I had been a werewolf before, why couldn’t I feel it? Shouldn’t there be some instinct buried in me, waiting to surface?Â
I took a step closer to the edge, my gaze roaming over the others. Each movement was decisive, confident. They knew themselves and each other.Â
I tried to imagine that control in myself, but the image wouldn’t form. My lack of memory kept me distant,Â
an observer in someone else’s world.Â
The thought pressed harder. Werewolves were born, not made. If that was true, some trace of it should exist in me–a skill, an instinct that could let me navigate this world.Â
I studied a pair sparring in the center. Their movements were nearly a blur, strikes delivered and blocked effortlessly, a silent language of power flowing between them. For a moment, a spark of recognition or longing flickered inside me. Could that be part of me too, hidden beneath this unfamiliar skin? Or was l destined to remain on the sidelines, unsure of the body I now inhabited?Â
From everything Faye and Alexander had said, wolves weren’t constructed overnight. Their reflexes, instincts, abilities–they came from blood and lineage, shaped by experience.Â
And here I was, untested, with only fragments of identity and a body that promised more than I couldÂ
access.Â
I exhaled slowly, letting the weight settle in my chest. My gaze drifted to the dirt beneath my feet, as ifÂ
staring could offer clarity.Â
FAYEÂ
I wiped at my face with the edge of my towel, trying to catch my breath and cool down after the first round of training. The air was warm, sticky with sweat and exertion, and I raised the water bottle to my lips,Â

letting the cold liquid slide down my throat.Â
“Hey, Luna.”Â
I froze for a second, hearing that smooth, teasing tone behind me. Before I could turn, strong armsÂ
wrapped around me from behind, pressing me close.Â
“Alexander!” I laughed, squirming a little, “I’m all sweaty!”Â
He just grinned against my neck. “I don’t mind,” he murmured, the words playful but intimate. “I justÂ
wanted to hold you for a little.”Â

I tried to shrug him off, but his hold was warm, confident. Then he spun me gently, and before I knew it, hisÂ
lips were on mine. A soft, lingering kiss that made me laugh into it, half surprised, half amused at how clingy he could be.Â
“What’s up with you today?” I teased, pulling back just enough to look at him.Â
“I miss you,” he said, eyes sparkling with that intensity that always caught me off guard.Â
I chuckled lightly. “Funny, I’m always around. We sleep together, wake up together… I don’t see how youÂ
could miss me.”Â
He smirked, a little rueful, a little teasing. “You’ve been… distant,” he said quietly, “since Roman arrived, actually. Seems like all of your attention is on him now.”Â
I raised an eyebrow, amused. “Jealous?” I asked, voice light, teasing.Â
“Jealous of a boy?” he countered with a smirk.Â
I shook my head and laughed softly. “He’s not a boy. He’s a young man, obviously, which means-”Â
Alexander cut me off with another kiss, this one firm and commanding. When he pulled back slightly, his expression held that familiar warning: watch your next words. I giggled and touched his arms lightly,Â
steadying myself.Â
“I just… I feel like he needs help,” I said seriously, letting the playfulness fade. “It’s bad enough he doesn’t have his memory, doesn’t know who he is, and now he has to learn to be a wolf at this age, when he’s already grown. I can’t imagine how hard that must be for him. And now, he’s isolating himself. How is he supposed to learn, to adjust?”Â
Alexander listened quietly, eyes softening as I spoke. When I finished, he exhaled slowly, a small sigh thatÂ
seemed to carry both thoughtfulness and determination.Â
“Well,” he said finally, “I could mentor him.”Â
I blinked at him, surprised. “You’re serious?”Â
“I am,” he said, smirking slightly, “I’m busy, all right. But… with Roman’s situation, and how much it means to you, I’m willing to give him a try.”Â

A smile spread across my face, genuine and relieved. “Thank you,” I said quietly, feeling a weight lift.Â
He raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in his eyes. “Don’t thank me yet. I’m not doing this for free. You’llÂ
have to pay for my services.”Â
I knew exactly what he meant, and the look he gave me sent a warm rush through me. I had to pull myself together, reminding myself we were still on the training ground, and everyone could see.Â
