Chapter 340

THIRD POV

Jeffrey walked beside Irene, their fingers loosely intertwined. His thumb moved absently against the back. of her hand as though he wasn’t entirely aware he was doing it.

Irene noticed the small gesture but didn’t comment on it. Her attention had shifted to his silence instead.

She glanced up at him after a moment.

What? Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about my mom,” she said.

Jeffrey blinked slightly. Oh, noI’m not bothered about that anymore.”

You’re thinking about something,Irene said. You get that look when you are.”

Jeffrey let out a small breath through his nosethen he smirked.

Do I?”

Yes,” Irene answered.

He gave a faint smile at that but didn’t deny it.

There’s something I wanted to ask you,” he said.

Irene tilted her head slightly.

About what?”

Jeffrey hesitated for a brief moment before speaking again.

About the Roman guy.”

Irene frowned.

Roman?”

Jeffrey nodded.

Irene searched her memory for a moment, but the name didn’t immediately connect to anyone she knew

personally.

Who’s that?she asked.

Jeffrey glanced at her, mildly surprised.

You don’t know him?”

Irene shook her head.

No.”

Jeffrey slowed his steps slightly, still holding her hand.

He walked into the living room earlier,he said. When we were all sitting there.”

Irene thought about it.

At first, nothing came to mind. Then, slowly, a vague image surfaced.

Oh,she said after a moment. The young man who came in from outside the house?”

Jeffrey nodded.

Yes”

Irene remembered the moment now. Someone had walked in briefly, paused for a second as if taking in

the room, and then continued down the hall.

But that had been the extent of it.

She hadn’t really thought about him afterward.

I remember someone walking through, she said. That was him?”

Yeah,” Jeffrey replied.

Irene shrugged lightly.

I didn’t know his name.”

Jeffrey watched her for a second.

You don’t know him at all?”

No,Irene said. I’m sure I’ve never seen him before. I assumed he was one of the pack members who

moved in recently.”

Jeffrey nodded slowly.

Oh.”

They continued walking at the same easy pace.

Irene glanced up at him again.

Why?she asked. Why are you asking about him?”

Jeffrey hesitated.

It’s hard to explain.”

Irene’s brow lifted slightly.

Try me.”

Jeffrey exhaled quietly.

When he walked in earlier, he looked around the room, and I think he noticed me.”

Irene listened.

And there was this moment where we just looked at each other.”

Irene didn’t immediately see the significance.

That happens,” she said.

I know,Jeffrey replied.

That part isn’t strange.”

He paused briefly.

It was the feeling I got.”

Irene studied him.

What kind of feeling?”

Jeffrey seemed to consider his words carefully.

It felt like he was familiartoo familiar, actually.”

Irene tilted her head.

“Familiar how?”

Jeffrey shook his head slightly.

That’s the problem. I don’t know.”

He ran a hand briefly through his hair.

It was like I could recognize him somehow.”

Irene looked at him thoughtfully.

But you don’t know him?”

No.”

You’re sure you’ve never met him before?”

Jeffrey nodded immediately.

“I’m sure.”

Irene squeezed his hand slightly as they walked.

Maybe you’ve seen him somewhere,” she suggested.

Jeffrey shook his head again.

I gently moved her hair from her face and watched her for a moment, letting her calmness settle over me. Then I slipped from the bed, careful not to wake her, and decided to get some air.

I chose a window along the hallway, one that opened without drawing attention or noise, and climbed

through.

The night was quiet until a faint rhythm caught my earthe sound of measured strikes and the shifting of weight on the ground.

My brow furrowed.

Who would be out here training at this hour? Watch guards? A younger pack member trying to push

themselves? Kyle?

I moved closer, careful not to announce my presence, and then I saw Roman.

He was training with a focus and precision that stopped me in my tracks.

Every movement was controlled and full of intent. I could see the progress clearlyhis footwork was sharper, his strikes cleaner, his form more confident.

This was the result of weeks of training, the early mornings, the corrections I had given him. And yet, he had taken it further tonight, pushing himself on his own, without any prompting.

I stayed there for a long moment, just watching.

He was improving, and it was undeniable. The dedication, the drive, the determinationit all showed.

I couldn’t help the faint smile that tugged at my lips. My instructions had not been in vain, and he was proving it to himself.

Then, suddenly, he turned.

Our eyes met.
