Roman shifted slightly under my gaze.
“I didn’t mean-”
“You did,” I said.
He hesitated for a second, then gave a small nod.
“Yes.”

I didn’t comment further on it. Sometimes I corrected him when he spoke like that–not because I took offense, but because he still needed to understand the difference between honesty and forgetting who he was speaking to… for discipline.
Tonight, I let it pass.
I folded my arms loosely instead.
“You’re still training,” I said.
Roman shrugged slightly. “I need to.”
“Why?” I asked.
He looked away at first.
“I can’t just give up,” he said. “I can’t disappoint her,” he added, more like he had said that part to himself.
I didn’t need to ask to know who he was referring to… Faye.
I didn’t react to that at first.
For a few seconds, the only sound between us was his breathing slowly settling from the training.
Then I said, almost casually, “Well… you’ve been pushing yourself harder lately, and it’s impressive.”
Roman glanced at me.
“There’s more focus,” I continued. “More urgency.”
He wiped the back of his wrist across his forehead.
“I still have a lot to improve.”
“That’s true,” I said calmly.
His mouth twitched slightly, unsure whether I was joking or not.
I let the silence stretch for another moment before speaking again.
“You seem to be highly motivated by my Luna.”
He went completely still.
The reaction was immediate and almost comical.

His head snapped up toward me, eyes widening slightly as if I had just accused him of something
unforgivable.
“Alpha-”
He stopped himself abruptly.
I said nothing.
I simply watched him.
Roman rubbed the back of his neck, clearly uncomfortable.
“I didn’t mean anything disrespectful,” he said quickly.
“Disrespectful?” I repeated.
“I would never look at the Luna that way,” he rushed to explain. “She’s your mate. I know that. I would never
“Roman.”
He stopped talking instantly.
“If I believed you were behaving inappropriately toward my mate,” I said calmly, “we wouldn’t be having
this conversation.”
He blinked.
Then a visible wave of relief passed through him.
“I understand,” he said quietly.
I leaned back slightly against the post behind me.
“So,” I said after a moment, “what exactly are your feelings toward her?”
Roman shifted his weight again.
The question clearly made him uncomfortable. But I needed to hear his response.
“I’m not sure ‘feelings‘ is the right word,” he admitted.
“Then explain it.”
He frowned slightly, thinking.
“It’s not anything… disrespectful,” he said slowly.
I waited.
He exhaled.
“I guess… I see her like a savior.”

That wasn’t the answer I expected.
“A savior,” I repeated.
Roman nodded, though he looked uncertain about how ridiculous it might sound.
“I know it probably doesn’t make sense,” he said. “I don’t even know how to explain it properly.”
He looked down briefly, gathering his thoughts.
“I just feel… safe around the Luna,” he said eventually.
I watched him carefully but didn’t interrupt.

“Even before I knew who she was,” he continued. “The first time I saw her, I didn’t know anything about her.
”
He paused, searching for the right words.
“But something about her presence felt… steady. Calm.”
His hands moved slightly as he spoke, restless.
“And then there’s the other thing.”
“What other thing?”
Roman hesitated longer this time.
“I’m not sure if it makes sense,” he said again.
He inhaled slowly.
“I think she might be the reason my wolf came to life that day.”
That caught my attention.
I studied him more closely now.
He didn’t look like someone making a dramatic claim. If anything, he looked unsure of himself.
“And why do you think that?” I asked.
He shook his head slightly.
“I don’t know.”
His voice lowered.
“It’s just a weird feeling.”
That was his instinct connecting dots he had no idea how to follow. Was it possible Faye triggered his wolf somehow? Did she use her powers on him?
She would have mentioned it if she did. Besides, I didn’t think she could use her powers in that direction.
