Pocketing the device, he looked at her apologetically. “I’m sorry, my love. I’m hoping that is the last of the calls and
messages for the evening. Normally I’d get Glenn to cover me off but he’s doing a task for me.”
“You’ve mentioned a task a few times, but what exactly is he doing or should I ask?”
“You can ask but be careful what you want to know.”
“If I really want to know?” she looked at him quizzically.
“We picked up one of Davis’s superiors. He’d been put on a suspension, and he said he was going home to LA for a visit to his family. He got on the plane in New York, but when the plane landed he did not get off. I wonder how that happened.” He made wide eyes at her. “Glenn and his team are making him uncomfortable in a holding cell here in town. We’re going to find out what it is Davis was doing with your information.”
“Oh.”

“Legally you mean?”
“Yes. Do you know who gets targeted the most in jails? People who hurt kids first and then cops. They won’t last in prison. I’ll make sure of it. First though, I need to know what they’re up to and frankly the bold way they are moving is careless and stupid. They’re making mistakes out the wazoo because they think they can get away with it. Tonight, two of them are going to regret doing the shit they’ve been doing once Glenn gets done with them.”
“Do you ever handle things up close?”
“Yes but I was hoping to spend some time with Kaylee this weekend and didn’t want anything to interfere with it.” He lifted her hand in his, “and tonight I don’t want to lose a
moment with you unless absolutely necessary. Glenn and Ford can handle this.”
“How did a man get on a plane but not get off?”

“We took him before he got on. He went to the bathroom, and we swapped him out with a look alike.”
“Very clever.”
“Thank you,” he winked at her as he linked their fingers. “Now, at the risk of quelling your approval into our actions, I’d like to talk more about you and me. I want to know all the things you did in the last eight years. I want to tell you all the things I did. I want to know everything. I want to know what you’ve been dreaming of doing and your business plan and what you need to make your dreams come true.”
She smiled, “it really hasn’t been all that exciting, Gulliver. We were truly laying low and not working outside the town for the most part. I built a website while I worked on my jewelry designs. I raised Kaylee. I helped with the household. It wasn’t really exciting.”
“Tell me about your first sale.”
She blinked at the question, “oh. Like at the local farmer’s markets and craft fairs or online.”
“The first one which told you that you might be able to make a career and support your child.”
“Oh. I did a necklace and earring set and I sold it for a grand

online. Someone actually paid a thousand dollars for one of my creations and it felt incredible. Dad took us out to dinner to celebrate. Mom was really happy for me. Kaylee was only three, but she happily ate the celebratory cake.”
“That’s incredible. And now?”
“Now that’s the average price of the pieces I sell.” She grinned proudly.
“I am infinitely proud of you.”
“Thank you Gulliver.” The praise from him felt good despite how much she wanted to say it didn’t. There was something about the way he was supportive of her dreams which made her feel special. She looked out the car window, “where are we going for dinner?”
“A friend of mine told me there is an incredible little Greek place nearby. I thought we could try it.”
“Sounds fun.”
“I hope so. Apparently it’s very much like a taverna back home in Greece. There is live music and the like. I hope there is dancing. I very much want to hold you in my arms to dance.”
She blushed as he grinned at her. “Sure. You want to dance.”

“I do want to dance. I want to dance with you. I want to kiss you. I want to make love to you. I want to hold you in my arms when I sleep and wake with you in the morning. However, tonight, I will be satisfied with dancing, holding hands and then when we get back to the hotel suite, you can sleep alone in your bed, and I will sleep alone in mine.”
She knew his words were meant to be reassuring but her belly twisted in a way which told her it was going to be a very long night.
