January exited the car with a furious expression on her face as she noted the unmarked car belonging to federal agents parked across the street.

“Take a breath, my love,” Gulliver whispered as he grabbed her hand. “Glenn is coming in with us as is my tech expert to remove any new devices which may have been planted and also to put in a scrambler which will keep them out here from hearing what is said in there.”
“I hate that I’m suspecting her of collaborating with them. She’s my mom. How could she? I would never do this to
Kaylee. I’d rather bleed than hurt my daughter. What is going on with her?”
He draped an arm over her shoulder and hugged her to his side, “do not go in there and lose your mind. Let’s be calm.”
“Yeah.” She muttered as she saw her father’s car pulling into the driveway. “He looks as pissed off as I do though.”

“I am seeing where your temper comes from.” Gulliver laughed as Terrance came out of his car, slamming the door furiously.
“Hey Dad,” she ducked out from under Gulliver’s arm to hug her father tight.
“Hey sweetheart,” he hugged her tight to his chest.
“I’m sorry. I know you’re angry.”
“Not at you,” he shook his head. “I’m angry at the situation. Do you know she hasn’t called me? Davis called her and she never even called me to tell me or ask me what to do.”
“She messaged me last night about how it was unfair that I was keeping Kaylee from her and that I was being immature by avoiding the hard conversations.”
“Well,” Terrance waved at the door, “let’s go have the hard conversations.” He looked at the way Gulliver reached out and took January’s hand in his and she didn’t pull away. “You look better this morning, January. Happy.”
“Thanks Dad.”
“If you hurt her again though Gulliver, I’ll help her kick your ass all the way back to Greece.”
“Fair deal,” he laughed as they walked up the stairs to the 2/6

January let her father open the door and then she proceeded the men into the space. She looked in the living room and the kitchen and there was no sign of her mother. Giving her father a quizzical look she asked, “Is she in the bedroom?”
Gulliver waved at his brother and tech specialist to begin going through the house.
“No.” He jutted his chin in the direction of the back door. “She’s in her garden.” He pointed to her phone, “she left that in here on purpose. She’s avoiding calls.”
Terrance stepped onto the back patio leading into the back yard and Gulliver shook his head at January telling her not to follow.
“We’ll want to have her talking in here, not out there, in case she has them listening.”
“Oh.” She sat at the kitchen table and leaned forward to rest her forehead on the top. She felt Gulliver resting his hands on her shoulders rubbing them softly. “I’m going to need another back massage after this day I think.”
“All clear boss,” the tech guy came out from the bedroom area. “Nothing in here aside from what we put in.”

Glenn squatted next to January, “hey, can I give you a piece of advice, sister?”
“Yes.”
“As someone who has a very contentious relationship with one of his parents, this isn’t on you. You don’t owe anyone your peace. It’s absolutely okay to say it’s not acceptable to be treated poorly, even when it’s your parent. I’ve had years of therapy to deal with my father’s disappointment in me but the one thing I always go back to is that I don’t owe him my peace. Whether you’re with Gulliver, not with Gulliver, living here or living somewhere else, the only person you need to be accountable to is you and if you can look yourself in the mirror and know you’ve done the very best you can as a person, then you should have peace. Don’t let someone who thinks they have ownership over you or your life take that from you.”
She leaned sideways and kissed his cheek, “thank you Glenn.”
“Now. I have a favor. What is Ernst’s coffee order?”
“What?”
“When you had coffee with him, what did he take? He is working the day shift at the hospital, and I want to say hello. I will bring him a coffee and a pastry and ask him to dinner on

The stuttering footsteps of Analia coming into the room made them all look towards the door.
“What is this?”
“It’s my cue to leave is what it is.” Glenn kissed January’s cheek and then he patted Gulliver’s shoulder. “The team is outside. I’m taking a couple guys with me to go see my new man.”
“He’s not your man yet.” January teased him.
“Nobody can resist me. I’m a Raptis.” He winked at her as he left the house.
“Who was he?” her mother asked tersely.
January met her mother’s glare with a serious expression of her own. “Glenn. Gulliver’s brother.”
“Where is Kaylee?”

Terrance picked up the phone, “you shut it off?”
“It kept ringing.”
“Funny. All the people who usually call you are in this room. Why was it ringing?” Terrance asked. “Did you call her January? I know I didn’t. I saw your two best friends heading into the café without you, so I know it’s not them calling you. Who is calling my wife?”
“Oh, let’s not toy with her, Dad. We all know it was Davis.”
