Enid smile at January, “you’re getting remarried?”
“Married. We were never married in the past.”
“I lied,” Gulliver said with a shrug. “I fucked up. I love my wife dearly and I was trying to keep her safe from Ziogas’s daughter, Duchess. I learned my lesson. I should have trusted my wife to be able to handle the truth of our family business.”
“That’s silly,” Enid looked at January, “she’s the toughest person I’ve ever met. She can handle anything you throw at her. I see things,” she smiled at January, “I’ve always seen how strong you are. It was kind of why I was pushing Ernst to ask you out. I feel foolish though because it never once dawned on me he was gay until he said a really hot Greek man hit on him and he was intrigued by it all.”

“Sure. What can I do?” She tossed her grey ponytail over her shoulder, “we are family after all.”
“We sure are,” he motioned to the table. “When we did our preliminary investigation into the people in the town who were around January and Kaylee in an attempt to keep my girls safe, we didn’t ping anyone with direct connections to Davis.”
“Alice in the restaurant. She works for Digger and she’s always going on and on about how the government officials who used to come to town to meet with their friend Terrance. She tried to hook up more than once to a few of the guys who came in. She told Dizie, the hairdresser, how each time they came into town they hooked up.”
“No shit.” Gulliver shot off a text, “clearly someone on my team needs my size twelve up their ass because this is information I should have seen on day one.”
“Also,” she shrugged, “the bulk of the town hates them all. It’s not a secret that Moe and Digger have connections to a motorcycle gang. Every single time those people who were friends of Terrance’s came to town, the town cleaned up their shit, but they did it for Terrance and January and Analia and Kaylee. We all like them. “Ernst as an outlaw?” January giggled,
“The MC the next town over works with another one a few states over and they hunt sex offenders. The president apparently has a wife who was hurt and he made it their personal mission. They might raise money in questionable ways, but they use the money they make to hunt down pervs on behalf of his old lady.”
Enid was talking like she was a crime lord, and it was taking everything in January’s ability to not bust out laughing. This woman who was not much older than her own parents yet refused to dye her hair, wore her overalls like they were a uniform and kept her face make–up free was turning out to be far from the natural hippy preaching love does not war they all presumed her to be. 1

The door to the back yard opened and January’s parents walked in their arms around each other’s waist.
“Enid!” Analia smiled at her through puffy, red–rimmed eyes. “What are you doing here?”
“She’s telling us Alice and the school principal are our town
moles.”
