January watched as Gulliver faded in the distance while the helicopter was taking her high into the air.
Ernst was sitting next to her, his leg bouncing nervously as the helicopter flew towards the hotel. She watched his face and noted he seemed really upset. She reached sideways and took his hand in hers and he turned his face towards her and then shot her a tight smile. She rested her head on his shoulder and smiled when he kissed the top of her head. It didn’t feel romantic but brotherly and she found herself wondering how she’d ever thought this man could have been a good partner for her.
The flight back to the hotel was under fifteen minutes and when they landed they were greeted with an entire team of security who escorted them into the building. There was no time for talking or even asking questions as they were ushered, almost frantically, with men armed to the teeth to the suite where Gulliver had been staying.
Entering the room Grandfather was there with Thisbe and Bette who were sitting tensely at the dining table.
Thisbe was the first one on her feet rushing through the room to

fling her arms around January and squeeze her tight. “Thank God you’re okay.”
“I’m fine.”
Thisbe moved to Ernst and hugged him with equal fervor, “you’re okay too? They didn’t hurt you did they, brother?”
Ernst looked at January, “they sure like to throw the word brother around a lot.” He patted Thisbe’s back gently, “I’m fine, Thisbe. Exhausted but fine.”
“Your mom and Darwin are on their way here along with Terrance and Analia,” Thisbe told them both with a worried expression. “They’re coming with an entire entourage of soldiers. Gulliver gave the order to keep them tightly guarded until they get here.”
“Mom and Dad must be pissed,” January sighed as she moved to hug the older man in the room who stood with his arms out to her. She rested her head against his chest.
“Your parents are fine but very worried about you. They feel you were foolish agreeing to go.” Thisbe said, “but then your father said if anyone could be strong at Gulliver’s side it was you.”
Ernst accepted the tight hug from Grandfather, “she kicked ass. She stabbed Davis in the dick after she beat the supreme shit out
of Duchess.”

“She escaped though,” Grandfather was frowning.

“I don’t even know how she was able to drive because January bashed her head off the floor. She’s seeing triple for sure.”
January saw Bette staring curiously at Ernst. “Ernst, this is Bette, Glenn’s mom. Bette is this my friend Ernst.”
“Also, your future–son–in–law,” Thisbe quipped with a grin.
“Glenn kissed the hell out of him.” January threw a blushing
Ernst under the bus.
Bette moved to Ernst and stared at him silently for a moment and then she reached her hand up and cupped Ernst’s face softly, “my boy has not had it easy his whole life, but he has the softest heart and the ability to love so deeply and so completely. He is incredibly loyal and kind and there is nothing he wouldn’t do to protect his family. He tends to wear his heart on his sleeve.”
“Yeah, I don’t think you need to sell Glenn to him, Bette,” January snickered, “I said Glenn kissed the hell out of him, but I didn’t tell you how Ernst kissed him back. It was very sexy.”
“January,” Ernst’s ears were turning red at the comment.
“Oh, you liked it.” January teased him and moved to fling herself into a chair. She looked at Bette, “did the kids go to bed okay?”

“They did. Thisbe helped me get them cleaned up and into pajamas. It was fun to read them stories and tuck them in. I put them both in the room. Kaylee did say she’d been hoping to sleep alone tonight and said tomorrow night there better not be anyone in her bed.”
January snickered as she nodded at the wine glass Thisbe held out for her. Ernst flung himself onto the sofa and closed his eyes. She reached out and patted his knee, “you’ll feel better once your mom and Darwin are here and you can see them.”
“I know. I just want to know he’s okay.”
“They will be here soon.” Thisbe commented softly. “They left nearly thirty minutes ago. They should be here in roughly forty minutes. Would you like a glass of wine while you wait?”
“No. Thank you, but I’d love some water.”
“Glenn’s rooms are on this floor,” Grandfather said quietly. “We can get you into the room and you can take a hot shower, change into some pjs or sweats and by the time your mother arrives, you’ll be a bit more relaxed.” He walked behind the sofa and put his hand on Ernst’s shoulder, “I know after an eventful evening like tonight, I personally need a bit of time alone to process what has gone on and to reset my brain before I need to deal with anyone else.”
“Am I staying in Glenn’s rooms?”

“If you’re okay with that. Glenn texted me and said your mom and Darwin can sleep in the room where Mitsos usually sleeps. He will take the sofa, and you can have his bed,” Bette spoke up softly as she held up her phone. “He wants you close but he’s not going to force you to sleep next to him.”
Ernst shook his head, “this is all so much.”
“Are you feeling overwhelmed?”
“Oddly,” Ernst pulled a face, “I’m feeling safe and supported.”
“That’s good to hear.” Grandfather said softly.
“Is it weird I just want Glenn to come back to the hotel?” Ernst asked January.
“No. Gulliver swept me up in his arms from day one and I was all in. They have a way with stealing hearts pretty quick.”
“I don’t like he’s out there and that crazy lady is still out there.”
