She lay there waiting until the cars peeled away and she scrambled back on her hands and knees to the car and looked around frantically for her cell phone. She tried her best to avoid looking at the driver’s vacant stare straight through the busted–out windshield. Tears were streaming down her face as she realized that her phone was gone and in order to get one to call Ford or Glenn, she was going to have to go through the driver’s pocket.
She managed to find it inside his coat pocket and used his fingerprint to open the device, hating how much it felt like she was violating him somehow. She went through the contacts to find Glenn and she dialed out.
“Speak.”
She took a breath as she realized Glenn thought it was the
driver.
“Glenn, it’s me, January. Duchess had someone run us off the road. The driver is dead and Gulliver forced me out of the car. He’s hurt, bad. He said his arm was broken and he has a massive
chunk of window glass through his shoulder. They pulled him right out of the car and dragged him away.”

“He exaggerated. It’s not an inch but we’ll find him. Are you hurt? Fuck, we left twenty minutes after you. We must have just missed it.”
“The car came from a side street, and it pushed us over a barrier. They were waiting for him to come through. How did they know?”
“The driver who was working for Ziogas. We know he shared the location of a couple of our buildings. It never dawned on me that the building was compromised. They would have known Gulliver would order us to take Davis and his crew to one of the buildings we purchased in the town. They probably had multiple exits being watched.”
“Where is she getting all the staff?”
“I don’t know but we’ll figure it out. I’m coming up and can see the tire marks, and I see the barricade that was broken.”
She whimpered with relief as the sound of the cars crunching on the roadside above reached her ears. Slowly she rose up from her hidden position, climbing partway up the hill and when she saw Glenn and Ford racing to where the barrier was smashed open she felt the dropped back to her knees and let the tears fall. She looked over her shoulder and pointed, “the driver, Glenn. The driver.”
Glenn was sliding down the embankment with several men chasing behind him. He scooped her up in his arms and carried her up the hill. “It’s okay. I’ve got you. The guys will manage 4

her into the back seat and slid in beside her. “Drive!” he ordered
the driver.
“What about Ford?”
“He’s already called an entire crew to come help him. I’m doing what my brother would want and getting you to safety before they fucking come back to double check you weren’t hiding.” He looked her face over, “that’s a hell of a gash on your forehead. It’s going to leave a big scar.” His fingers were searching her neck and her scalp, “there’s another big cut on the back of your
head.”
“We had our seatbelts on, but the car rolled so many times and the glass was everywhere. They hit us with such force and the door crumbled from the impact. It hit on the same side as Gulliver and the driver. The other vehicle was a truck, and it was higher with one of those big grills and it smashed the glass right
in over us.‘

“It’s okay,” he reassured her softly. “It’s going to be okay.” He whispered as he cuddled her. “You are my little sister, January. My brother will murder me if I don’t make sure you’re cared for. We’ll get him back. Duchess wants his semen so she can’t kill him yet. We’ll have him back in a few hours and she’s going to wish you’d killed her in the motel.”
“Glenn, Kaylee just got her dad back and we went into something stupid last night and she could have lost him then. Now she might lose him now. How many fucking times a week does he almost die?”

you like this though, so we’ll go to Grandfather’s suites.” His phone rang and he answered it quickly, “speak.”
“We have eyes on Gulliver. We’re following closely without being seen. We don’t want to force them off the road in case it causes him to be hurt further.”
“Do not lose him and don’t leave him. I want to know where they’re going at every turn.”
“On it.”
The phone went dead.
“Glenn, we’re getting him back, right?”
“Already on it, little sister.” He wiggled his phone. “First though, we need to get you stitched up and patched up and then, we’re taking an entire fucking army to Duchess. You can finish the job you started on her face.”
January grumbled, “it’s all Gulliver’s fault.”
“For getting kidnapped?”
“He should have killed her years ago instead of throwing her in prison. This is what happens when the mafia prince is too soft. I swear to god you guys better train Kaylee better.”
With those words from her mouth, Glenn took to laughing and she closed her eyes and prayed Gulliver was okay.
