As Lottie stared at her with her arms folded over her chest, Gulliver snorted at January, “you may as well tell her everything. By the time Ford puts a ring on it, she’s going to know anyway.”
“Ford puts a ring on what now?” Lottie turned to give Gulliver a snarky look. “I don’t even know this dude’s face from the crowd of people always following you around and you think he’s marrying me?”
Gulliver shrugged as he leaned against the counters, “stranger things have happened.”
“I have baggage.”
“He’s great at unpacking it.”
“That’s a weird thing to say,” Lottie frowned at Gulliver.
“It’s true. He’s been my best friend since before I have actual memories of anything. He’s the one person I can go to and tell him what is on my mind, and he can dissect it down for me in an objective way which makes me look at it differently. He’s damn good at being my number two.”

“What the hell is a number two?”
“The guy who comes behind my brother as a number one.” Gulliver laughed at Lottie’s grunting.
“You’re distracting me.”

“On that note,” Moe commented, “I’m taking my old ass back to my store. It’s kind of nice having backup around closer to home, Gulliver but it’d be really nice to have some peace and quiet for a
bit.”
“We’ll see what we can do. Also, my assistant is going to reach out. The chapel in town needs some renovation work done and we’re making a donation to get it going. We’ll be looking for a local carpentry crew to get things moving quick. If you know anyone, give her a list.”
“I’ll get a list done up.” He nodded, waved and walked out.
“I really see him and Grandfather becoming best friends.” Gulliver said suddenly and looked at January, “did I tell you he wants a house here in town? Glenn said he could move in with him and Ernst, and he said he needs his own space because he doesn’t want to have the little ones walking in on him getting freaky.”
“He’s going to need a nurse at some point, Gulliver.”

“Does it need to be on our street?” January asked with a frown. “I’m not sure how I feel about seeing his wrinkly backside chasing a nurse though his open windows.”
“Nah, he can live on the same street as Ford and Lottie. I know there’s a little bungalow for sale across the street from Lottie.”
“You know where I live?”
“You’re important to my wife, Lottie so I know everything.” Gulliver shrugged.
“I know you’re some mafia prince.”
“King now,” Gulliver held up his finger, “my grandfather gave me his ring.”
“Am I supposed to kiss it?”
“No.” he laughed at Lottie and grinned at January, “Ford’s going to have his hands full.”
“Wait until you meet her kid,” January grinned. “He’s been hanging around Digger and the boys in the motorcycle club. He can’t finish a sentence without a four–letter word in it.”
“Ford’s going to love him.”

“Can we focus here?” Lottie grunted. “You’re a mobster. I know you came here wanting far more than letting Alice go home with her dad. You made a comment about Baldy, as January calls him, being underground. Pretty sure that Alice’s dad alluded to the fact he’s a hitman for the MC club. Did you kill Baldy?”
“Lottie, plausible deniability,” January said quietly.
“Fuck that. I’m your best friend. I manage all your business. I’ve been you confidante for the last eight years. I don’t care if his sister thinks she’s coming back into the fold and taking up the role of BFF. She can have the sister title but you’re my best friend. I want the truth. How did you both really get hurt?”
“Okay, well, the other night, we were at the hotel when Davis the FBI agent kidnapped Ernst and told us that he put bombs in my parent’s house. We needed to go meet him in order to keep my parents for being blown to smithereens.”
Lottie covered her mouth in horror. “Is Ernst okay?”
January nodded. “They took him because they knew it would make Glenn comply. He’s fine now. He is back to work, and he and Glenn are building their relationship.”
“He’s really gay?”
“He’s as surprised as you are, Lottie,” Gulliver grinned.

when we got there,” January sighed, “there was a girl there who wanted to get rid of me and take Gulliver. I beat her up.”
“Yeah you did.” Lottie gave her a nod of approval.
“Knocked her out but then while we were disarming Davis and his cronies, she slipped away. We managed to get things under control but she was gone. We dealt with Davis and Baldy and the others.”
“By killing them?”
“Lottie.”
“Tell me!” Lottie stomped a foot, “seriously. My son wants to be in a motorcycle club and I’m going to use your behavior to normalize whatever shit he’s going to get into.”
“Not if Ford doesn’t draft him into Raptis.”
“Is that as dangerous as riding bikes to do criminal shit?”
“No. We use SUVs, helicopters and state of the art weapons we sell to the bikers.” Gulliver winked at Lottie.
“Gulliver has a special bullet proof vest.”
Lottie pointed at his shoulder and arm, “how’s that working for you?”
