“Down boy,” she laughed at him. “I did not invite him as a date.”
“No?”
“No.”
“Why did you call him?”
“Because yesterday I went on a lunch date with him and today I’ve told you I’d try again with you. I’m not going to let him think I was going to go out with him again as anything more than a friend. It’s not who I am. I called him to let him know I was giving you another chance.”

She grinned as his cheeks flushed red and he fought the smile which was tugging at his lips.
“Then Kaylee came out and said hello and asked for Darwin to come to the zoo with her. I said it was a good idea for Ernst to meet Kaylee’s father since Darwin is going to be around and you’ll be crossing paths. Ernst is a very shy quiet and reserved man but he’s logical and realistic. “Our house?” his smile was blooming now as he leaned over her in the chair and caged her in, his hands on each of the arms of the chair she was curled up in.
“Yes. Our house. Mine and Kaylee’s,” she gave him an impish grin as he opened his mouth in surprise at his words. “You aren’t moving in with me right away, Gulliver. I’ve never lived on my own before. I want to try it out.”
“It’s overrated. I’ve spent the last eight years living alone. It
sucks.”
She reached a hand to cup his cheek, “give you an inch and you’re wanting a mile.”
“I’d like to give you an inch, actually,” he whispered in her ear, “I’d like to give you roughly eight.”
“Gulliver,” she hissed his name as she shot a worried glance at the overcrowded table in the hotel suite. “Not cool.”

“Do you think of me when you turn that device on or have you created some fictitious character in your head?”
She was burning bright now at the way he turned it around on her. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
“I would. See if it’s a fantasy of me, then it tells me that I need to make sure our first time we make love again, I have to live up to the hype. “And all yours,” he kissed her forehead as she settled against his chest. “Thisbe offered to take the kids for a few hours this evening so you and I can go on a date. Glenn is going to run an errand on behalf of the family, and I was going to keep Mitsos another night since we have Kaylee here but then she volunteered to watch them here while we go to dinner.”
“A date?”
“If you would do me the honor, yes, a date.”
“I’d like that,” she looked up at him. “All of this family stuff is fun but by the time we’re done, I’m going to need some quiet time.”

“Good grief,” she rolled her eyes at his words. She wound her arms around his waist and hugged him as she pressed her cheek to his chest. “I’m happy today, Gulliver.”
“Is that a problem, my love?” he asked with a laugh in his
voice.
“No but it’s been a long time since I felt like this, and I’m scared it’s going to blow up in my face.”
“Oh, my love,” he hugged her tight to his chest, squeezing her and nearly lifting her off her feet, “I am going to do my damnedest to keep you smiling like you’ve been all morning. I know you’re not ready to say it yet, but I love you and you giving me this chance to make amends with you and repair the mess I made. I am not going to let anything tear apart the blessing you’ve bestowed on me. I’m going to protect it and you with every fiber of my being. I promise you.”
He leaned down and tilted her chin, so she was looking at him. He pressed a tender kiss to her mouth and then laughed when Kaylee let out a loud squeal.
