Chapter 63
Gemma
He looks like he’s about to reach for me when his phone rings.
He looks down at it.
“Shit. I have to take this. Wait here for me. I want to talk to you.”
Then Cassian leaves the office. I watch him go. Then I turn and look at his perfectly unattended computer.
“Umm…” I say out loud.
Did the goddess or the universe or whatever really just make my life this easy?
I swallow and then look out the office window again. Cassian is walking down the stairs. The phone is pressed to his ear.
Then, suddenly, he pauses. He turns. I realize someone is calling
his name.
It’s Reyna. She comes down the stairs and says something to him, giving him a flirty little smile. He nods. She keeps going down the stairs until she’s standing right above him.
Then she leans down and kisses his cheek.
My fists clench and my anger returns. I turn away from the

window and immediately go to the computer.
I’m doing this.
I sit down and immediately open the command window, searching his system for the information I need.

There! I found it. A schedule of deliveries. The names of the shipments as well as who they’re being delivered to are all code names, but that doesn’t matter.
I just need dates and times.
I pull out a thumb drive and stick it into the port, then start downloading.
As I do, I notice another file on Cassian’s desktop. It just says, “Angela.”
My stomach flutters. That’s/Reyna’s mother’s name. The woman who ruined our lives.
Of course, I immediately open it. Inside are medical records…
And the phone number directly to the supplier of the medication my mother needs, as well as an authorization code.
The download of the other data finishes, so I close that window and take out the thumb drive, then slide it into my pocket.

When I’m done with that, I take a picture of the screen where I still have the information on the drug that was supposed to be given to my mother pulled up.
I slip my phone into my pocket just as Cassian opens the door.
“Gemma,” he says in his quiet, dangerous voice, “What are you doing on my computer?”
I stand and stretch. “I was just sitting while I waited for you,” I
say.
I keep my voice casual, but my heart is pounding in my chest. It’s starting to feel like I’m playing a dangerous game with Cassian.
Except he has no idea that I’m his opponent.
I’m starting to enjoy my secret identity more than ever.
But I don’t even want to think about what will happen if he realizes who I really am.
His eyes narrow and he gestures to a chair closer to the door and the one on the other side of the desk. “There are other chairs.”
“This one looked the most comfortable.” Can he hear the slight breathiness in my yoice? The thrill and edge of fear?
I look down at his computer and act like I’m casually toying with

the mouse. “I’m not interested in anything you have on here,
anyway.”
I close the window displaying Angela’s files.
Now he won’t have any idea what I was looking at.
“Hey! What did you just do? This computer is running several programs you can’t possibly understand. Don’t touch it.”
He comes up to grab me, but I dodge him. I laugh. He might think I’m laughing to tease him, but really, I’m laughing because I could run circles around him when it comes to computer
programs.
His hand darts out faster than I can see and he grabs my wrist, then pulls me back against him. “You said you came to see me. Now you’re leaving?”
“Like I said before, I was just dropping by to say hi,” I say. I shake him off and walk toward the door. “You and I will see each
other some other time.”
I slip out before he can say anything else.
I know he’s going to come out after me, so instead of going down the stairs, I take a few steps back into the shadows of the hall.
That way, when Cassian comes out, he’ll think I went down the stairs and go that way. Once he’s gone, thinking he’s chasing me,

I’ll head down and hide between the shelves until he comes back
again.
Then I can slip out.
But, for all my brilliant planning, I forgot about Reyna.
The few steps I take backwards bring me level with the open door of the conference room she’s working in.
“Gemma?” she calls out as I stand like an idiot where everyone can see me. She gives me a fake smile so sweet I want to barf. “You finally came back to work”
She comes over and her evil smile grows. “How about you scamper off and do the only thing you’re good at get me n coffee.”
