Yearning
Over a thousand men in black filed in, and the scar–faced man, Kyler, at the front walked straight up to my brother, bowing respectfully and saying, “Mr. Rodriguez, we’re late.”
The people around turned pale and whispered among themselves.
“Could he be the famous Mr. Rodriguez? But isn’t he just a worker?”
“We’re done for now. I heard Mr. Rodriguez has always kept a low profile. Wearing work clothes makes him more agile and efficient, so he can deal with enemies better.”
Angela let out a cold snort.
“Look at you cowards. It’s just over 100 people? I’m sure Duncan can call 10 thousand people over. Don’t be afraid, Duncan will protect us.”
Standing nearby, Duncan turned red and then pale in the face, unable to say a word.
I found it laughable.

Even ten Hernandez families would be nothing but showing off their meager skills in front of my brother.
My brother wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, walked over to me, and helped me
- up.
“Sorry, it’s my fault for being late.”
I felt a pang of sorrow for the blow he’d taken, my voice choking as I said, “Zachary, I was wrong. I should have listened to you in the first place. I shouldn’t have married that scumbag Duncan!”
Several years ago, my brother had been dead set against my marriage.
It was only when I threatened to take my own life that he reluctantly agreed to the wedding.
“Alright. I will avenge you.‘
With that said, the man walked over to Duncan. Before the other could react, he lashed out with a backhand slap, so forceful that it made Duncan spin half a circle on the spot, and

blood instantly trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Duncan had lost all his earlier arrogance, his entire body trembling.
He stammered, “Zachary, it’s not like this. Please, listen to my explanation.”
Angela flew into a rage and shouted, “Zachary, fight back! Are you really afraid of these workers with their worthless lives?”
As expected, the girl was lacking in social experience and couldn’t tell the identities of these thousand men.
Just then, Angela was grabbed by the hair by Kyler in black and slammed hard to the ground.
The bell on her shattered on the ground.
The fragrance that had been lingering all around suddenly dissipated.
The young woman panicked, knelt on the ground, and tried to pick up the bell fragments. But Kyler stepped on her hand.
“In this day and age, there are still people who dare to harm others with a voodoo bell!”
Kyler, having seen much of the world, recognized at a glance that this was the voodoo technique Angela had used.
Without the fragrance, Duncan sobered up instantly. Realizing he had done something wrong, he immediately knelt down.
“Honey, I don’t know what came over me just now. Hurting you was definitely not my
intention.
“Moreover, I called a stop at the critical moment. I didn’t really want to hurt you. It’s just that your temper is too bad, and I wanted to teach you how to correct it.”
He dropped to his knees hard as he apologized to me.
My brother stood in front of me, looking down at me.
“You? What do you think you are, Duncan? How dare you teach my sister a lesson? You must be tired of living!”
I cast a cold glance at Duncan.

“I’ll deal with you later!”
I clutched my stomach, asking my brother for the medicine he always carried with him.
Over the years, I’ve suffered from severe menstrual cramps, and my brother always had painkillers with him.
After taking the medicine my brother gave me, I regained a little strength.
“Valerie, do you remember who hurt you?”
My brother asked me gently.
I pointed them out one by one. The ones who pulled my hair and kicked my stomach earlier.
At that moment, they’d already been hauled up by the burly men Zachary had sent, their wrists twisted at unnatural angles. The pain had them howling like slaughtered pigs.
With a heavythud, those men dropped to their knees, the dull crack of their kneecaps hitting the concrete floor making teeth ache.
“Mr. Rodriguez’s orders,” one of the men barked, “anyone who so much as harms a single hair on Ms. Scott gets a broken bone in return.”
The men blubbered pleas, their voices shaking.
“No, please. We’re sorry! We’re blind, we didn’t know who she was! We never should’ve bullied Ms. Scott. We’re guilty, so guilty.”
They sobbed and wet their pants.
Once they were dealt with, I turned to Angela.
She was still scrabbling on the ground for the bell shards, her eyes blazing with a wild, desperate fixation.
